    Hey!! Im glad you mentioned Cedar Point 2. I wrote a paper about it a couple of years back. From my research, the Irish Hills amusement park was planned to have a dueling roller coaster rumored to be Gemini. After Irish Hills was canceled, Cedar Point tried again with Battle Creek, Michigan near a fort (Fort Custer).

    • @rdfox76
      @rdfox76 4 месяца назад +1

      Lots of his images in the Cedar Point 2 section are actually related to the Battle Creek iteration. (I grew up in Battle Creek, born right about the time Irish Hills was cancelled.) The plan wasn't to have it be *near* the fort--Fort Custer was being downsized in the mid-70s and the city was looking for ways to redevelop the land, so the proposed park would have been *on* the land the Army was moving out of. After it fell through, the land ended up being redeveloped--slowly--as an industrial park. The rumor in Battle Creek was always that they had everything set up and just ready to put signatures on paper, but then the city government pulled out of the deal because Kelloggs didn't want a theme park in town (presumably because it would have reduced their financial control over the city government).

    There's a theme park in Vietnam called Asia Park, and it made fools out of the guests. They brought in some roller coasters from the failed Freestyle Music Park. Two of them opened, but the other two, Slippery When Wet/Soak'd/Highway Boat and Maximum RPM/Round About/Paradise Fall were built, but they never opened to the public for unknown reasons. For Highway Boat, it was due to the fact that water-based suspended coasters are maintenance nightmares. For Paradise Fall, the mechanics for the Ferris Wheel lift hill were too complex. Both these rides were sold as scrap, and they brought in new ones from Intamin. The new Highway Boat has an elevator lift and no water features. The new Paradise Fall has a tire propelled launch instead of a Ferris Wheel lift hill.

    I dont think theme parks will ever be what they once where. Once upon a time going to a park was a annual summer thing for the whole family. Gas costs much less then. People just socialized more too. It was an exciting event for the family to rebound: the kids had off school and mom and dad had usually a week vacation off work. But today things are very different: gas costs a fortune, everything is more expensive overall, people are more lost in thier own world on phones and tablets then socializing. Families dont get together in general like they used to do. Add covid and just fear for safety overall and many just wanna chill at home. Thats why i love parks, a reminder of what once was the best part of the year: no school for almost 3 months and going on crazy coasters.

    Disney has *so many* announced or planned giant projects, including entire parks, that never went anywhere--you could fill whole videos with it, and people have.
    WestCOT was actually the successor to Long Beach Port Disney/DisneySea, which also sounded like a pretty ambitious project. I think the picture at 12:35 is actually of the Long Beach project. Parts of that ended up incorporated into Tokyo DisneySea, though to be fair the Tokyo park is probably more than what we would have gotten in Long Beach. And the "boardwalk" section sounds like Paradise/Pixar Pier at California Adventure.

    Your Cedar Point 2 portion actually is showing graphics for two different pitches. Originally, the plan was to build in Onsted on the land they owned until 2012. But many of the graphics you used were for a pitch after that for a 1978 opening in Battle Creek, MI in the Kalamazoo/Grand Rapids Metro Area. It would’ve been built adjacent to W.K. Kellogg Airport (now Battle Creek Executive Airport) and right next to the Fort Custer Military Base. This also fell through before the land was acquired but was aimed to open in 1978 and would’ve included a coaster similar to Gemini (with some rumors claiming Gemini was originally designed to be built there).

    I live in Battle Creek Michigan so a couple corrections: they were looking at two locations in Michigan, one in Irish hills, one in Battle Creek. The one in Battle Creek was highly favored by the city, which committed to invest a lot in infrastructure for the park and begun plans to do so. Then, for no known reasons Cedar Point backed out.
    Not sure what happened in Irish hills tho

    With Disney's announcement of the approval for expansion of the Disneyland Resort, it is possible that they could revive one of the theme parks they originally planned for the resort's second park. When you think about it, the Toy Story parking lot (where the planned expansion of the resort is set to take place) is HUGE.

    Speeds story gets even more interesting when you take into account that Adventuredome originally planned to buy it, and only opted out when S&S offered El Loco for cheaper than it would be to rennovate speed, not sure if you can find it online, but the parks lead ride engineer Joey Rukavina confirmed this last october at ACE's Viva Las Acers Event
