I´m partial to the frst 2 albums myself. I was born in the mid 1970s, but later when I was a teenager 1970s nostalgia was in full swing. I really love Angel and Starz. Like any American kid growing up back then, I cut my teeth on Kiss and Black Sabbath.
They could sing that wasn't the problem the problem was Casablanca I almost think had they been with another record company such as Arista records they could have had that a shot of getting a song into the top 10 becoming one of the major players in heavy metal their story reminds me of the story Autograph where you have a band that should have been big but didn't because of the record company and everyone involved with the record company

Loved Angel and saw them live here in NYC a few times. What a show! I will share my strongest memory-Sinful just came out and they were opening for Styx at Madison Sq. Garden. When they were announced surprisingly everyone went batsh*t! Huge following here and I bet Styx was pissed lol
For higher end skills and technicality, the first three albums were right there. No one can say that these guys didn't have the chops. They had some mad skills ana unique sounds that made them so original. I'm glad Punky and Frank are still carrying on with the band, even though the rest of the members are new. Greg had put out solo albums, yes, but he is an entrepreneur. So I believe the story goes, is tha he has a patent out there for some gadget that makes him filthy rich. He doesn't need to play anymore if he doesn't want to. Barry and Felix basically retired. The band still has a large and loyal fanbase. They are still good, but I miss the old lineup. Also, "Live Without A Net" was an awesome live album. I might be able to contribute some of my partial deafness upon listening to this album, at high volume through a 50 watt bass amp back in the day. I know the neighbors were probably too old to start drinking because of it, but hey! 😜🤣
Saw them twice: '78 and '79 at Richfield Coliseum. '78 they opened for Styx. Then in '79 were the headliner with Breathless as opener (there was another warm-up band first). I got a kick out of the stacked cubes during the monologue intro--have super8 film and a cassette recording of that. Still have the concert brochure. Favorite songs: Tower and Ain't Gonna...
Ha! Im sorry! I loved Sinful back in 79, but it just doesn’t stand the “test of time” in my opinion. Songs are extremely melodic, but very short, and follow the songwriting 101 template of verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus….fade. The ONE song on the album that I do think is an absolute standout, and would make MY Angel top 10 is “ Just Can’t Take It”
That is so true the first two songs on that album are two of their best if not their best I absolutely love the song She's a mover that is the best song showcasing Frank the Minos voice and his classical training Castleberry Motown Groove to the singing
Wow, what a magical albeit hypothetical concert I came up with after the narrator's mention. I would have loved to see both Starz and Angel in concert in the seventies. But what a show it would have been for them both to have toured together!
@@TheGoldenAgeofHardRock It's a shame Casablanca Records didn't give Angel more promotion, more focus. They were just too busy promoting KISS, a band that really needed no promotion in Angel's days.
In my opinion, I think the Fortune was a masterpiece ! My favorite album was the very first album because it got me hooked on this band. I read a story that said KISS was the band that pushed Angel out of the music business and they were also the Band that brought them in to the business after Gene Simmons saw them in a club and pushed Casablanca to sign them ! Apparently Gene was pissed that Angel was becoming as popular as his band and he stopped it. Angel was an extremely underrated band !
I would have loved to have seem then in the 70's. I finally got too, a couple of years ago, drove 3 hours to a small theatre in Pennsylvania. It was a great show, I knew every song 🤣🤘

First off let me say I have NO problem with you picking Sinful. I think it's a brilliant piece of work! I've been a huge fan of ANGEL since way back in the day. I absolutely LOVE All of the original 5 studio releases along with Live Without A Net. I can only loosely rate them 1-5 so here we go: This is very difficult and can change day to day. 1. White Hot (Currently playing at my shack) The boys are absolutely hitting on all cylinders here. The songs are all great. The production is top notch. Barry's drum sound is total ear candy! This album contains "You Could Lose Me" which is one of Frank's finest moments. I think the album cover is their best too. 🎹 🎶🎸 2. Self titled debut 3. Helluva Band (Oh man...."The Fortune" and "Feelings" just to name a couple. "Feelings" is Frank's finest moment IMO. Listen to that song with a good set of headphones and your life will be forever changed. 4. On Earth As In Heaven 5. Sinful To any of you audiophiles out there, check out the Skullcandy Crusher Evo headphones. The bass is the best I've ever experienced! 👍
I saw them warming up for Styx. Great songs. Incredible live performance. Also saw Starz warming up for Styx at another time. Way way underrated group. I have all albums from both. Just outstanding. My favorite is the third one, though White hot is a very close contender.
You are absolutely correct, Kevin. 'Walk Away Renee' was recorded and released on the 1992 greatest hits set 'An Anthology' I have to say that I really like Angel's version of it also. Being a new song though left a glimmer of hope for a new album after the greatest hits package but unfortunately nothing came of it at the time.
Thanks for posting this. Angel remains one of my favorite bands of all time. I bought "On Earth as it is in Heaven" when it was first released. The other albums were purchased immediately and those that came after. So wish they'd bring Greg Guiffria back to the band. I would love to see your review of their live album which is amazing.
Suspicion! Was it "White Hot"? Love that song. I always thought of them as the alternative to Kiss, cause they were label mates at Casablanca records. Might have made an interesting tour.
Interesting Lee enough Gene Simmons is the one that found the band while they were playing in DC but when asked by the producer for Angel to open for them Gene Simmons stated under no circumstance will Angel ever open for Kiss he was actually afraid the angel could overshadow kiss
Second time I seen Angel they were the headline band in 1980 right after Frank Marino, and Mahogany Rush who followed, humble pie and mothers finest was the opening band at Kiel auditorium also in St. Louis but I had my choice Mahogany Rush would’ve been the headline van Frank Marino wow he’s the best guitar player this world will ever know
I saw that tour also in 1980, Rock and Roll Marathon tour and Mahogany Rush was the headliner, which was in North Carolina.. Angel opened, followed by Mother's Finest, then Humble Pie, and Frank M. closed, so they must have been switching up on the tour.
My sister painted the Angel logo on a friend's apartment wall in 1978/1979. Needless to say, the landlord was not happy. The friend did not get his security deposit back!
While White Hot might have been their top selling album. As a teenage boy in the 70’s, the cover was big miss for the band I think. Lots of guys back then would laugh at the five mostly naked guys on the cover.
My faves are in descending order. SINFUL is my favorite, with WHITE HOT being a close 2nd. Then down the line, with the debut being my least favorite. They were a band that to me, was better than KISS. They should have been Big! By the way, "Waited a Long Time" is also my favorite song by the band...and Frank DiMino is criminally underrated. A truly great Rock vocalist that more people should know about!

There was no better time to live especially being a teenager and in the early 20s I didn’t get any better than that.!!!
I'd hop in a time machine and go back in a second 🤘
Love the latest album “Risen” but “Sinful” is my fav of the first five.
There’s at least two of us, Eric 🤣🤘
The live album was hard to find, many years I looked, love it always a fan,...
I agree. I think the record company had given up on the band at that point and didn't print that many copies. It took me a while to find a copy also.
Saw Angel in concert back in the mid-to-late 70's. I think it was the On Earth.. In Heaven tour. And it was one of the best concerts I ever been to. And I've seen all the big acts of the 70's and 80's, Kiss, Alice, Van Halen, Nugent, Aerosmith, Sabbath, etc. And I'd rank them right up there with everyone else during that time. I have all there CD's except Sinful and the live album but I'll be ordering them today on Amazon. Great video!
Thanks, Nick, thanks for stopping by and commenting 🤘
totally agree
I’m still listening to Angel. I’ve always liked them. Ever since I heard Rock and Rollers on the radio. I’m glad I found this. My Ranking….
1 Angel
2 Helluva Band
3 White Hot
4 Sinful
5 On Earth
Thanks for putting this Video together. Maybe it will get them more recognition.
Greatest live show ever... Over the top was putting it mildly.. 🤣
Thanks for sharing Carlos 🤘
OMG! I loved them! That emblem was fantastic. Greg Giuffria did take advantage of MTV with his bands, one of which was produced by Gene Simmons if i remember correctly. So glad I found this channel!
Thanks, Sandy Jo, I'm glad you found this channel too 🤣❤🤘
This band was simply amazing! One of my favorite bands from my teens. I still get chills when I hear Mirrors.
I´m partial to the frst 2 albums myself. I was born in the mid 1970s, but later when I was a teenager 1970s nostalgia was in full swing. I really love Angel and Starz. Like any American kid growing up back then, I cut my teeth on Kiss and Black Sabbath.
Thanks for sharing my friend
They could sing that wasn't the problem the problem was Casablanca I almost think had they been with another record company such as Arista records they could have had that a shot of getting a song into the top 10 becoming one of the major players in heavy metal their story reminds me of the story Autograph where you have a band that should have been big but didn't because of the record company and everyone involved with the record company
I agree, Jody. Also, if they could have made it to the debut of MTV, I think the video revolution would have been big for Angel
My Top Ten= 1-The Fortune 2-Tower 3- Long Time 4- Mariner 5- Mirrors 6-The Winter Song 7-Feelings 8-Just A Dream 9-Bad Time 10-Angel Theme 1=2 ...Cheers!!
Thanks for sharing, Alexandre, great list 🤘
@@TheGoldenAgeofHardRock The Fortune is Epic Greatness at its Finest!!!
You have great taste, almost identical to my list
Close to my list, but i'd replace winter sone and angel theme with She's a Mover, Dont Leave me Lonely and Feeling Right
Starz were great
Another band that never gets the attention they deserve. Thanks, Frank! 🤘
@@TheGoldenAgeofHardRock i worked at a big concert club called the agora in Cleveland in the 70s got paid to see the bands
@@bigfrank1010 Nothing is as nice as being paid to attend shows. I lucked out a few years back and worked some overtime doing security for a venue, saw some interesting things back stage for sure and saw the shows on top of making money for it. 🤘
Brownsville Station had done their self titled lp with Eddie Kramer not long before he produced ''On earth as it it in Heaven'' at Emerald Castle Studios
There isn’t any debate, the debut is leaps and bounds the better album. However, all five are ABSOLUTELY CLASSIC!!!!
True, thanks for sharing 🤘
Great video. Love this band. Been following them since the beginning. Debut my favorite followed by sinful helluva band white hot on earth. Love their cover of Don't walk away Rene Tower from the debut Feelings from helluva band winter song bad time...all great.
Thanks for sharing your rankings, Joe!
1 Helluva band 2 Angel 3 On earth '4 White hot 5 Sinful
Thanks for sharing your rankings, Everts!
Thanks for sharing that experience. I like STYX but I think I would have enjoyed ANGEL even more 🤘
For higher end skills and technicality, the first three albums were right there.
I regret not getting to see them in the 70’s, when I finally did see them though, I knew ever song 🤣🤘
Angel’s best album is far and away…”On Earth…”. No question.
My top 5:
5. Sinful
4. Hellava Band
3. White Hot
2. Angel
1. On Earth…
Ahhh, you cut me to the bone, John 🤣 You put my pick last 🤣 Thanks for sharing your Rankings 🤘
Ha! Im sorry! I loved Sinful back in 79, but it just doesn’t stand the “test of time” in my opinion. Songs are extremely melodic, but very short, and follow the songwriting 101 template of verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus….fade. The ONE song on the album that I do think is an absolute standout, and would make MY Angel top 10 is “ Just Can’t Take It”
@@jasheton That's an honest review, can't fault you there. I do like "Just Can't Take It" Thanks, John 🤘
That is so true the first two songs on that album are two of their best if not their best I absolutely love the song She's a mover that is the best song showcasing Frank the Minos voice and his classical training Castleberry Motown Groove to the singing
i just love She's a Mover, it just gets me going
Wow, what a magical albeit hypothetical concert I came up with after the narrator's mention. I would have loved to see both Starz and Angel in concert in the seventies. But what a show it would have been for them both to have toured together!
I agree, what an awesome double-bill that would have been 🤘
@@TheGoldenAgeofHardRock Yessir, that would truly be some "Coliseum Rock"!
@@TheGoldenAgeofHardRock It's a shame Casablanca Records didn't give Angel more promotion, more focus. They were just too busy promoting KISS, a band that really needed no promotion in Angel's days.
Yes please do one on live without a net only saw them once in the old days butt next month I'll seen them for the second time since they reformed
Angel was an extremely underrated band !
i saw them by accident they filled in for Mothers Finest
i fwll in love with keyboards
I would have loved to have seem then in the 70's. I finally got too, a couple of years ago, drove 3 hours to a small theatre in Pennsylvania. It was a great show, I knew every song 🤣🤘
Started with Helluva Band in '76 so of course that is my favorite, followed by the Debut, then White Hot, On Earth, and Sinful.. the Live album is pretty good as well.
1. Angel
2. White Hot
3. On Earth
4. Sinful
5. Helluva Band
Thanks for sharing 🤘
The first album. I saw them headline in St. Louis with David LaFlame and Piper. Their stage show theatrics were tops for times.

First off let me say I have NO problem with you picking Sinful. I think it's a brilliant piece of work!
I've been a huge fan of ANGEL since way back in the day. I absolutely LOVE All of the original 5 studio releases along with Live Without A Net. I can only loosely rate them 1-5 so here we go:
This is very difficult and can change day to day.
2. Self titled debut
3. Helluva Band (Oh man...."The Fortune" and "Feelings" just to name a couple. "Feelings" is Frank's finest moment IMO. Listen to that song with a good set of headphones and your life will be forever changed.
4. On Earth As In Heaven
5. Sinful
To any of you audiophiles out there, check out the Skullcandy Crusher Evo headphones. The bass is the best I've ever experienced! 👍
Thanks for sharing your rankings with us and for not giving me grief over 'Sinful' 🤣🤘
I saw them warming up for Styx. Great songs. Incredible live performance. Also saw Starz warming up for Styx at another time. Way way underrated group. I have all albums from both. Just outstanding. My favorite is the third one, though White hot is a very close contender.
didn't they release a cover of Left Bank's " Walk away Renee" ?
You are absolutely correct, Kevin. 'Walk Away Renee' was recorded and released on the 1992 greatest hits set 'An Anthology' I have to say that I really like Angel's version of it also. Being a new song though left a glimmer of hope for a new album after the greatest hits package but unfortunately nothing came of it at the time.
Great video
Thanks for the support, Susan, it's much appreciated! 🤘
You’re very welcome @jerrymarlow5453 Thanks for watching and leaving the comment!
There is recent video of them playing a club with Greg. ruclips.net/video/S66wTzdS6mM/видео.html
Suspicion! Was it "White Hot"?
Love that song. I always thought of them as the alternative to Kiss, cause they were label mates at Casablanca records. Might have made an interesting tour.
Thanks for sharing Bruce! That would have been an interesting double bill 🤘
Interesting Lee enough Gene Simmons is the one that found the band while they were playing in DC but when asked by the producer for Angel to open for them Gene Simmons stated under no circumstance will Angel ever open for Kiss he was actually afraid the angel could overshadow kiss
Under Suspicion, love the drum intro
@@normangeleri Barry brandt. . legendary
The tower is a great song! LA lady and lovers live on are good too
They've got some good ones, for sure, CJ 🤘
i thought Just Can;t take it should have been a hit
Second time I seen Angel they were the headline band in 1980 right after Frank Marino, and Mahogany Rush who followed, humble pie and mothers finest was the opening band at Kiel auditorium also in St. Louis but I had my choice Mahogany Rush would’ve been the headline van Frank Marino wow he’s the best guitar player this world will ever know
Frank is the real deal 🤘
I saw that tour also in 1980, Rock and Roll Marathon tour and Mahogany Rush was the headliner, which was in North Carolina.. Angel opened, followed by Mother's Finest, then Humble Pie, and Frank M. closed, so they must have been switching up on the tour.
My sister painted the Angel logo on a friend's apartment wall in 1978/1979. Needless to say, the landlord was not happy. The friend did not get his security deposit back!
Nice! I did something similar with a KISS mural in my bedroom 🤣🤘
Read the book ON A WING AND A PRAYER WITH ANGEL.
Haven’t read it yet but I just got it in the mail yesterday
While White Hot might have been their top selling album. As a teenage boy in the 70’s, the cover was big miss for the band I think. Lots of guys back then would laugh at the five mostly naked guys on the cover.
Yep
agreed
Debut album was the best . Killer rock , they should have kept that feel.
Thanks for sharing, James 🤘
Do a video on the live album!
Thanks for the recommendation, Bunzuelo 🤘
IMHO WHITE HOT IS MY FAVOURITE ALBUM.
I can't argue with you, it's a great album 🤘
My faves are in descending order. SINFUL is my favorite, with WHITE HOT being a close 2nd. Then down the line, with the debut being my least favorite. They were a band that to me, was better than KISS. They should have been Big!
By the way, "Waited a Long Time" is also my favorite song by the band...and Frank DiMino is criminally underrated. A truly great Rock vocalist that more people should know about!
For whatever reason, you and I, are in the minority, but as they say... I know what I like 🤣
Cool aah!
Thank You for ranking Angel's!
Greatings from Finland I'm KIZZ fan since 1976 and I heard Under Suspicious on the radio back in seventies and like the band a lot.
I have all albums on vinyl and cd's and a bootleg live double cd
and two 2006 Russian released vinyl 45's boxets seven records each boxet.
I ranked albums same as you, but songs little differendly 🙃.
I think that Under Suspicious is Angel's Kashmir! 🙂

I'm new to this band (although I've known of them since I was a teenager who read Kerrang! religiously) - which album would you say is their most hard rocking?
Dmitry, I'm going to go with the 2nd album, 'Helluva Band' for that category
@@TheGoldenAgeofHardRock
Yeah, I just listened to that one and half of On Earth As It Is In Heaven and I think those are probably their two heaviest albums.
Helluva Band most definitely
The first album is heavy also..
Add Teaze to that list
My favourite is still their first album. They should have stuck to the more progressive style like ”The Tower”. I lost interest in them in the chase after a pop-hit…… The 3 first albums and the live album were great though…..
The ANGEL albums are definitely a tale of two bands, thanks for stopping by Nalle 🤘
#5....SINFUL. #4.....WHITE HOT.#3.....ANGEL. #2.....HELLUVA BAND. #1.....ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN.
