The best Photography channel on you tube, bar none. So professional and polished with super content. Thank you
Glad you think so Ian.
No contest, Photography Online is the best RUclips photography presentation.
Marcus made a strong point on PLANNING ... in the past, when shooting landscapes, I have been a "hit or miss" shooter. In other words, I would let the light 'speak' to me and capture the moment when the light was just right ... I have never looked at a scene or composition and said that it needed to be captured under certain weather and time of year conditions. This has definitely created "food for thought". Thank you ...
Great to hear Mike. Hopefully it will help you refine your picture taking. Thanks for watching
A big ‘thank you’ to Marcus for his helpful comments last evening. As he suggested, I watched the May edition where he explained, in ‘layman’s terms’, focussing and depth of field. His no-nonsense explanation with easily understood examples really was excellent! Having said that, if this was the ‘layman’s’ version, I would hate to see the technical explanation! I also took his advice and watched the April show in which Harry also explained the ‘plane of focus’. Having seen RUclips shows where the photographer calculated hyper focal distance using an app and the measured the distance with a tape measure, Marcus and Harry’s explanations were a breath of fresh air. The ‘Essential Camera Skills’ section of the show is what really sets it apart from all the others on RUclips (in my opinion). Watching the show has undoubtedly improved my knowledge of photography. All I have to do now is put these newly learned skills to use in producing better images - which in my case may be easier said than done! 😳👌
Glad it is all proving helpful to you Alun.
Luv this show it’s like a beautiful glossy photography magazine 🤓 Need more shows like this fantastic content CHEERS !
Glad you enjoy it!
An INCREDIBLE message about highlighting the difference between those who are videographers/cinematographers, and of us who are photographers. I love video, but my passion and drive has and always will be the capturing of a still moment. We experience life in video...photography gives us the ability to study a moment in time that connects us to the reality that nothing remains the same. We are living our lives in a state of change that makes those few brief moments of peace and calm so attractive.
Heck, another month of waiting for the next show. I'm thankful for stumbling on this channel "by accident".
Terrific work, congrats to the entire Photography Online team !

I have only just come across Harry Martin’s tutorial on otter photography/filming (I am slowly working my way through each of the Photography online shows from January onwards!). His detailed knowledge of otters and the other wildlife in Scotland is really impressive. His photographs always appear to be pin sharp (unlike many of mine!) and his enthusiasm for wildlife photography is infectious. Fantastic to watch!
Thanks Alun.
The hero shot by Marcus...absolutely amazing! Thanks team for always putting together an informative, fun show.
Thanks for watching Virginia
Hey Ruth - great to see you shooting and some lovely indoor environmental portraits.
Thanks Kevin
This is such a great quality show - congratulations team!
Congratulations another great show. I had the pleasure of visiting Ffordes photography last week as i am currently touring in Scotland , I would just like to thank them for helping me out great bunch with a great sense of humour, without your show i probably would never have known of them. Although i think there are mystical powers at work within there shop as i was just walking out the door my mouth suddenly from out of no where said "i don't suppose you have this lens do you" , " oh yes said the gentleman ". and the purchase was made which i am very happy with. :-)
Thanks for the support Joe
Great again and first sighting @ 14-30ish!
Keep up the great work
James
Thanks again!
Cracking show from start to finish with so much excellent photography and information. Cheers Keith
Thanks Keith for your continued support.
Another helpful, inspiring, fabulous show. Brightening my day here in sunny Southern California, making me ache to visit the Isle of Skye. Can you imagine the pent-up wanderlust that will be unleashed when we are all free of these bonds some day?
You cetainly sound ready Ready!
I was in a dilemma for more then 6 months, your show started my interest again for photography! Congratulations!
Great to hear!
Yet another mesmerizing show! Can't wait to see the no 1 spot in next months show.
Thanks for putting out such an interesting program every month for free!
Glad you enjoyed it!
This is clearly one of the best on line photography magazines. I hope the team can keep it going through the present time and I for one wish the business venture every success .I myself have learnt a lot from the magazine and recommend it to my friends in my local photo club
Thanks for your support Chris
I hope you guys keep making this amazing show till the end of my life!!! Such a gem!
Not sure we can keep going that long Meneer, but we'll try.
Another fantastic content laden episode. I will definitely be rewatching this episode as there is so much to take in. Thanks again.
Glad you enjoyed it
Still happy about every episode released. Thanks a lot for this month show - can't await the next one
Glad you enjoy it!
Markus NAILED that wide pano shot, with the tiny boat as a bonus. To think that he can use that old film camera, and print them 3 to 4 METERS wide is awesome and makes one wonder why people say you can't print a m43 image bigger than A4 (or 8x10)...
by far the best all round photography show, thank you for sharing the awesome knowledge !!
Wow, thanks!
I stumbled across this channel today, Lucky for me! Great format and content. Thank you.
Thanks Christopher.
the best 📸 channel in YT
We think so too!
I feel horrible wishing the days away waiting for the next show. Another great episode, please keep u the oustanding productions. Two thumbs up.
Always an enjoyable and educational program. Please keep it up
Cheers Ken
Absolutely fantastic. Just found this channel. Wish I would have found it a long time ago.
Welcome to the show JK.
Great show.
Just one point regarding the critique of the Comet Neowise photo .... if the star trailing was due to the shutter speed being too long then all the stars would trail in the same direction. Even in the centre of the picture.
I think the effect in the picture is down to lens coma or maybe astigmatism.
Hi Julian. Thanks for your comments. Your theory about all stars trailing is a good one, but wide angle lenses stretch the image closer to the edges of the frame, which therefore creates more movement of any moving subject. This will be obvious on anything wider then 24mm. Coma is usually identified by flying saucer shaped stars and also occurs at the edges/corners of the frame. Another thing to consider is the position of the pole star, as this will also influence which stars appear to move more than others. For example, if the pole star was in the centre of the frame, movememnt would be far more apparent at the edges of frame, as the centre stars wouldn't be moving anywhere near as much. In the case of Neowise, which appeared to the north, this would have been the case.
Thanks for watching and for taking time to comment - much appreciated.
Another cracking episode , so well balanced
Thanks Howard
What an absolutely brilliant show - why isn't this on BBC 2 at prime time! Well done guys, I'm hooked!
Another fantastic show. It is the show we recommend to our club members to subscribe to.
Thanks for your support. It's much appreciated.
Love this show xxx
Hi Marcus
Thank you very much for your prompt reply. I have been an enthusiastic amateur photographer for 40 years, however, nearly everyone on RUclips videos, stresses the importance of foreground to infinity sharpness. I am relieved to hear that this isn’t always essential. I shall look up your May show as suggested. Thank you very much for your advice - it is much appreciated. I really enjoy the photography Online show. Keep up the good work! Alun
Wow, another great show and a what a great way to spend my Sunday afternoon. And oh boy, your No.2 location is absolutely spectacular and is now on my bucket list. I can't imagine what could possible top that. I did miss our little superstar though, I guess she's back at school? Fantastic job guys, I'm sure a lot of hard work, planning and effort goes into producing such a high quality show, but it is very much appreciated and enjoyed.
Glad you enjoyed it John
Beautiful panoramic shot.
Thanks Duncan
beautiful, I love it. Nice foto of the ballerinas. Thank you for these videos...
Glad you like them!
I spotted the camera bag at 14:31. I love your show and look forward to the live show in October.
Hi Susan. Thanks for your support. Please enter the competition here - bit.ly/2FYr8OZ
Love the show. I miss Skye badly. Can't wait to be back next year as this year for 2nd time in 10 years, I will miss the Autumn and the crazy Winter 100mph winds. Take care guys and keep the great work.
Thanks Arvin
You've really upped your game with the quality of the locations and compositions for Ruth's stand-ups. I was particularly impressed by the composition at 34:30. Just lovely light and perfect depth of field. Great stuff. And of course the rest of the content is wonderful as well. I particularly liked the bit where Marcus is talking about teaching photography and he spends a lot of time simplifying. Amazing content, keep up the good work.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great show I've enjoyed each one of them
Thanks Eugene
Smashing episode as always, well done folks. Just a quick note on the comet photo, the distortion that Harry spotted is called Coma. This is due to the wide angle lens optics and can be mistaken for trailing quite often. I always try to place my astro subjects in the middle of the frame as that area tends to suffer the least from Coma.
Loved seeing Marcus' method for planning images. Also, regarding Harry's critique of the comet shot *puts geek glasses on*, I think the streaking he put down to too long a shutter speed was actually caused by a lens aberration called astigmatism - it's only affecting stars on the edge of frame and they're not streaking in the same direction.
Thomas Pinches Is that the same thing as “coma?”
@@jackjstrange They're similar but give the points of light slightly different shapes. Astigmatism probably looks most like a star trail though!
Loving the show again👍🏻 I spy with my little eye a bag at 14:32
Thanks Graham
Another great show, this is produced with such high standards and is very informative and inspirational!!
engaging program, appreciated the professional and warm approach and generous insights - thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Another superlative show, thank you!
Thanks for your kind words.
Just love the show so much great information and the views, I love my camera again
Glad you enjoy it!
Hi there! I have just discovered this channel and it rocks! Got me hooked and now I'm going backwards, October, September and now August 😂. Best wishes from Perú!
Hi Ricardo. Welcome to our channel.
Thanks for another enjoyable show. They get better and better.

Worth waiting every month to watch it. Thanks guys
Our pleasure!
Bit behind in your vids but will catch up as I really enjoy them and hoping my cancelled trip to Skye this year can go ahead next April/May so still watching the Top 10 eagerly. Loved hearing Marcus' planning section as it was a new perspective to me and as I live in Hampshire I may well check out Lacock for shooting. Dare I say Marcus was lucky with the fishing boat in that Panoramic shot lol!!
Thanks for watching Steve. Let’s hope you make it to Skye soon.
Love this show, keep it up with the great work. 👍
Thanks, will do!
Brilliant as always.
Thanks Ian
Another beautiful scenic show!! I sorrow often when I watch the newest episode because then it's another month to see the next. May God keep you all if he tarries a little longer.
We might have some good news for you soon Russ!
@@PhotographyOnline That would be awesome!
14-31 great show just come back from 10 days in sleat ,now planning my return in November ,my favourite view on Skye is sunsets on ord bay looking to the cuillins,.fantastic show keep it up
Fantastic!
Opps Thanks. My excuse is on a Sunday i do a sixteen hour shift. I was lucky to spot the screen never mind the bag! Great show guys.
No worries!
Another excellent episode. Production values, are very high, which emphasises the amount of preparation and planning goes into each episode.
Glad it’s appreciated John. Thanks for watching.
Another great video, you never seem to run out of ideas, you always keep it fresh, Brilliant, regards.
Thank you very much, Colin!
Another great show, the highlight of the month!!
Thanks Iain.
Much respect Marcus, you've got a direct connection to the "Walrus of Love," Barry White!
Great episode, love your show!
Thanks Steve
Love the Episode once again Guys, especially the top ten locations coming to a close almost. Congrats to Marcus for his Sound of Rassay shot and the luck of that Boat in the distance .... or was it really luck with all that planning !!
Thanks Glenn. I don't think Marcus went as far as to coordinate with the local fisherman!
Many thanks again for a great programme.. any words of wisdom for a young photographer ( my son) who is starting off . His passion is landscape although when he speaks with some photographers he is discouraged to head in that direction ..
Hi Fiona. Landscapes are certainly not an easy area to make money from but you need to follow your dreams, so if that’s where his passion lies, if he wants it’s enough and is talented enough, then he’ll make it work. He could always take up a more lucrative genre of photography to subsidise the landscape work if it doesn’t come easy.
I love your RUclips videos but have had another operation on my stump so can't wear my prosthetic leg I have been spending my time taking images from my wheelchair it would be great to add a accessible location for photographers who can't reach the locations you feature thanks again for another excellent video.
Hi David. We have the accessible locations on our list of ideas, so hopefully we can include it in a future episode.
Great show. For Loch Coruisk, I can recommend a sea kayak! Arrive and leave anytime you like and access either side of the river. Takes about an hour and a quarter each way from Elgol for an experienced sea paddler. Health warning - you really need to know what your doing as it's a fairly exposed trip. Don't even think about doing it solo. But there are several excellent kayak guides in the area. (Not me, I'm based elsewhere)
Hi Guys, another great episode. Have been watching since day one and never been disappointed. Keep up the great work 👍🏻
Awesome! Thank you!
Awesome! Loved the features!👍🏼
Bag appeared 14:31 - 14:38🔥
Wow that hero shot! 10/10. You are so lucky ;)
Thanks Kenny.
I thoroughly enjoy your show. The mixture of expert advice, beautifully scenic locations, short tutorials and free offers/prizes are in my opinion, a winning formula! I have a query that I should be grateful if one of the show’s experts could answer. How does one focus from the foreground to infinity and achieve pin sharp images, every time? The following advice is a little confusing: 1) focus on the furthest point in the image, 2) calculate hyper focal distance using an app, 3) focus approximately a third of the way in to the furthest point in the image, 4) focus stack using 3-4 images and blend them together in Photoshop. I have 1-3 and had varying degrees of success. Any help in clarifying the best approach to achieving images of ‘acceptable clarity’ would be very helpful. Keep up the good work - great show!
Hi Alun. This is Marcus. I hope I can answer your question, but you may want to watch my feature on Depth of Field in our May show. In this, I explain that it's not possible to focus on more than plane at the same time, so the answer to your question is that you can't get everything pin sharp unless it is all on the same plane of focus or at infinity. Personally, I've never had to focus stack an image and I don't think it's likely that I ever will. The most imortant question to ask yourself is why are you trying to achieve pin sharp images from front to back anyway? It's not how we see the world with our eyes and therefore, it looks more natural if you have some softness somewhere in the photo. If the key areas are sharp, the photo should look "correct". Anyway, take a look at the Depth of Field feature, as this goes into the subject in quite a lot of detail.
Thanks for the constructive criticism.
Loved the show, (yet again).
Thanks Frank
Great show as always.
Glad you enjoyed it
Great show as always
Glad you enjoyed it
Inspiring as ever. Well done all. I'm heading to Dorset next month for some landscape work. I'm fired up now!
Have fun!
Thanks a lot for today's show. You made my day - had to cancel my autumn trip to Scotland because Switzerland is on the quarantine list. Hope for next year though.
Thanks Susanne. Glad we could make your day a bit brighter!
I really enjoy the show and tons and tons of knowledge sharing. Well worth the time spent. Oh, by the way, a lady with the bag appears right at 14:31
Another great show. I think it is time for me to start watching (transfer) this show on to my TV. I guess you you have to look at the price point when looking at camera comparisons but, When other manufactures with a better focus systems , some of these other camera companies need to step up their game if they want to keep their share of the market.
Awesome show, really enjoyed thank you.
Our pleasure!
Yay! Best way to start my Sunday morning here in Southern California :)
Morning!
Love this show, look forward to it every month. Planning shots is so hard for me right now, weather just never cooperates with my schedule.
We'll be doing a feature about weather next month, so hope it helps.
Great content as always. I saw the rucksack drop in at 14:31. I'm off to Skye on Thursday, so looking forward to some amazing weather and light to suit the locations :)
Fantastic content as always, keep up the good work, I love seeing images from home.
Cheers John.
Yet another SUPERB show! thank you guys! Actually walked to Loch Coruisk 3 days ago but bailed at the Bad Step as no one else around and didn't fancy having a 'Marcus gear' moment! ;-)
Thanks Ali. It's quite a hike. Better safe than sorry!
I can't see it at 33:09, I thought I saw it at 14:41 but probably completely wrong - wherever it was it was subtle
@@mistermartin82 ignore ok - rewind numbers lol..
Loved the show again this month! And what a magnificent hero shot Marcus made. One thing got me scratching my head though: is that Harry, or some unearthly being up on the peak at 36:57???
That’s Nick on the ridge. Harry was behind the camera on that one. Thanks for watching.
Great show and 14.31
I absolutely love this show!!! Great work!!!
Thanks for the support, Gary!
Another great show. I’m never disappointed. 😊 I saw the bag, with the young lady, at 14:32.

Thank you.
Fabulous show. Really enjoying every single episode 👍
Great to hear Alan.
Great show as always. And Ruth did a great job reviewing the camera. Better than Marcus' last review in fact. Well done. If you are still looking for a light weight video vlogging camera, then consider the Olympus EM-1 III. Excellent stabilization and solid autofocus. Maybe that should be your next review.
Hi Douglas. Thanks for your feedback. We did a review of the EM-1 III a few months ago!
@@PhotographyOnline Certainly you did review the EM-1 III, but from a photographer's point of view, not from Ruth's video vlogging perspective. The Camera Conspiracies RUclips channel is more eloquent about video than I (ruclips.net/video/J0OYAjPW8PI/видео.html) but if you are looking for light, great stabilization and functional focus, then Olympus might work well for you. Just a suggestion. I use them, I don't sell them.
Yet another fabulous video, how do you do it??? A few years ago I stumbled across a video of Loch Coruisk and was instantly captivated and since then watched or read anything to do with Skye. I've had to cancel my trip and workshop on Skye next May but fingers crossed, I can get there in 2022. From your #1 NZ fan.
Thanks Carolyn. Hope to see you in 2022.
Great episode! I do take issue with one of the things you said though. You mentioned autofocus as one of the weak points of the X-T4. The problems you were having would be largely due to the lenses you were using. In particular, the XF56 F1.2 APD is a specialized version of the XF56 F1.2 that is incapable of phase detect autofocus. It relies solely on contrast detect. Its internal graduated neutral density filter further hamstrings its ability to do AF well in darker environments. It is little surprise that it struggled with AF during your shoot. I'm guessing the XF23 F1.4 performed better for you. It is another of Fuji's older, slower lenses but it is able to utilize those phase detect pixels. I was glad to see you had access to the XF16-55 F2.8 because that lens is capable of taking full advantage of the X-T4's AF capabilities. On the whole, Fuji's AF is quite good when it comes to stills. When it comes to video autofocus...no disagreement. Fuji is well behind Sony and Canon.
Another well done, well thought, and gorgeous episode.
Thanks a lot
