PRIVATE VOICE LESSONS WITH CHARLIE ► charlie@bigbrainsinger.com
This is the first Lara Fabian Reaction on the channel and there is no better song to put up than Je Suis Malade sung by Lara in this incredibly passionate way. She's an incredibly passionate singer, and for a vocal coach reaction to Lara Fabian, this is the perfect song to understand how far a singer can go to the depths of her emotional singing. Her focused and powerful sounds are all derived from a deep emotional understanding of what's happening in the song. It's a truly beautiful song. Twitch Vocal Coach Charlie gets enraptured in how intense the performance gets and streams reaction for chat. Some may find it funny, but in reality, performers commit themselves to the depths of their soul when they give a gift like this to live viewers.
The Big Brain Singer channel is a free educational network meant to give everyone the information they need to take their singing to the next level. Yes indeed. I feel the a capella portion shows her complete ‘ aloneness and betrayal’ the most spot on choice of arrangement in this composition. Her phrasing and vocal cracks make us feel the disease of this dangerous kind of love. A study in masterful music for sure. That orchestra is perfection as well.

One of the greatest single artist concerts, front to back. Every performance in this PBS special was simply Lara at her peak and this performance - well, you can see at the end how invested she was as it took her a good 45-60secs to get back to the now as she has a very upbeat song to do next.
She's the greatest female singer of her generation, for me. Others may have similarly amazing technical gifts but no other can communicate the emotions of a song as she can.

This concert, "From Lara with Love", I believe is Lara at her absolute prime, both vocally and in her breathtakingly stunning beauty. Just a shame that her U.S. career was sabotaged by Celine Dion's people and Sony music. It certainly didn't stop her from becoming a world wide success. But not many people in the states have ever heard of her. She had all it takes to become a megastar here. She combines her flawless voice with her acting skills to draw you in emotionally like no other performer I've ever seen.

Lara Fabian's consolation if what Celine Dion's people did to suppress her is true will be her knowledge that she did no evil (good karma). Virtue is it's own reward and material intrigues gets you what? How many more millions of dollars can you spend? Celine's superb talents would lead one to think she'd be more generous of spirit and less petty.

Hey, How's going? Lara is able to hold this ending note over 18 seconds. She just did it for 16 seconds here, which was easy to her, but too hard for many of our mainstream singers.
PS: Lara is too methodic, too professional as an artist/performer/ to go beyond her vocal limits, she goes near the edge and come back. Some people like this particular way of hers, some would like to see how could be if she dared much more... Beyond her limits. But, she already said something like that:I just couldn't do what is unhealthy much to my body, I prefer being healthy singing properly.
Plus. What about the resonance? So professional, high level, beautifuly done. She has been singing this way since 1986. Belting with a master breathing and resonance thecnic C5 in chest/mixed voice over 18 seconds, E5 chest/mixed voice longer than 12 seconds. Trust me, this isn't one of her hasdest songs. ;) She is vocal classic trained at The Royal Conservatory of Brussels for 10 years (8 to18) where she learned piano, guitar, bel canto... She composes in 4 languages since her teenage years, and she already released songs in 12 languages. There are vídeos on RUclips showing her language versatility skills.
She is 51 years and has starded singing professionaly in 1986 (when she released her first album and video clipe in Belgium), but her worldwild album only came in 1990.
    Thank you. Greetings from Brazil.

The way she expresses emotions with her voice is uncanny. I especially love the way you can hear tear in her voice, it's as if she's about to burst into tear at any moment and you can hear it! A favorite is when she says "Je suis accrochée à toi", hear those tears? Also when she drags her thumb across her throat, damn, that's so rough and you can feel the palpable emotions and see them on her face too.

She is the master of connecting with emotion. But how she manages to sing so well while appearing to be on the brink of sobbing I'll never know. Most people have a hard time just talking properly in that state. Just those trembling breaths in the beginning of the song convey more emotion than some artists do in their whole career

One of the few singers to give me goosebumps almost every time during her live performances.
Nowadays she’s more subtle in her renditions. Still a great voice and technique, but not slaying her notes and belts as she used to do during that concert era (late 90s/early 2000s).
That whole concert is a gem in my Lara book. Whether it was this song, her newly released tracks for the US market or other songs she wrote (Broken Vow best rendition during that show imho), she was in her zone.
Besides, she’s a master at making you feel the song (as you pointed out). It’s amazing to me. No matter what she’s singing about, not whether it’s her own creation or somebody else’s, she still gets a way to connect with the audience and live that song so to speak.

It is a crazy performance as well, one that left its mark in France, Belgium and Switzerland where Johnny Halliday is quite a myth.
At this time, Lara Fabian was just starting to be very famous. Johnny wanted to sing with her because, in his eyes, she was the only one to be powerful and passionate enough to do this duet with him.
And she said later on that she was so impressed and stressed out to do this concert (singing with Johnny in the Stade de France in front 80K people that came to see him, not her) that she had to be all over him to be reassured a little. Hope you will enjoy it !

The song I'm Sick is inspired by a real heartache of Serge Lama, the story of a long secret relationship.
In 1969, the singer met Michèle Potier in Chamonix. Love is a certainty, but they are not free either: in 1968 Daisy Brun married her press secretary, she is married and the mother of a little boy. They love each other in secret for several years and promise to regain their freedoms, but Michèle hesitates and eventually flees and settles in Morocco for professional reasons. Lama is desperate, he wants to put words on his pain without succeeding, until the day he confides to his friend Alice Dona: "This story hurts me, it makes me sick". Back home, at the piano, Alice Dona composes in a few hours a melody [...], which very quickly she makes listen to the singer. It is a revelation and Serge Lama writes almost the entire text with a jet.3 He would later say, "The 80% of the song I wrote in 20 minutes is almost a shame. [...] it came out of my heart so much that I immediately felt that this song had something that others didn't have. ». The great Serge Lama...

Just to make it even more emotionnal, it happens in a bad personnal period for Lara, and the crowd is thinging "On t'aime" (we love you) instead of original lyrics "Je t'aime" (I love you). As a metal/rap fan, I still cry in front of this performance :)

Lara is a pearl of sensitivity with great human and heart qualities. Her voice is celestial and unique, we can talk about "Perfection" and "Pure sound vibration". For me, she is far above all the others famous female singers. This video where she sings "Je t'aime" live in Paris shows her real beautiful personnality and talent : ruclips.net/video/3DSj59tXQys/видео.html Congrats for your channel. Best, JG

If you want to hear another song like this, listen to Jacques Brel "Ne me quitte pas". He is also born in Brussels like Lara and his emotions are incredible. He wrote that song which was translated to English with the title "If you go away", song by Streisand, Shirley Bassey and many others. Here's the link for Brel's unique version: ruclips.net/video/Vz6r0TP4FBI/видео.html

This very emotional song suits totally to Lara... only few interpretes of this song have been able to give the perfect rendition. Serge Lama, Dalida, Ornella Vannoni (in italian version of the song) and now Lara... many others have failed or even more haven't even tried...

I forgot to say earlier, years ago her then boyfriend betrayed her with a french model, she saw them in a magazine holding hands, this is how she found out apparently, not a 100% sure if this is the way she found out, but she was definitely betrayed....

Please, Please, pretty please, react to one of those:
Alicja Majewska - Opole 1980 (Galowy Koncert Laureatów)
Alicja Majewska - „Dla nowej miłości” (Opole 1985 Premiery Wyróżnienie)
Alicja Majewska - Podróżą Każda Miłość Jest (KFPP OPOLE 1989)
Alicja Majewska - Marsz Samotnych Kobiet (Opole 1987)
Andrzej Zaucha & Alicja Majewska - Sunrise Sunset (live Miss Polonia 1991)
Alicja Majewska - W miłości słowa nic nie znaczą (Opole 1988)
Alicja Majewska i Zbigniew Wodecki - Feelings
Proszę Pańtwa! Idzie Wojna! Alicja Majewska - „Kołysanka Matki” 36 PPA M.Strzępka
Very emotional, amazing performances, Alicja is 73 now and she is a Polish legend, such a strong, huge voice. And most of the songs wrote by one of the greatest Polish composers nowadys - Włodzimierz Korcz, who’s pianist and conductor of the Orchestra, they work together for 46 years now.

It took more than 20 years for the americans (especially) to discover Lara Fabian. It's sad because she wanted to start a career in the US but something happened with Sony Music and they threw her off, making her signing with an unknown and obscure house of music. She had to turn herself to the european market to follow her career. Around twenty years later, she starts to get the justice she always deserved. Her only problem was to come out at the same time as another singer who took the american market completely, while the team of that artist wasn't interested of having a "rival" in the same discographic company. Rumours say - and it is what makes sense - Lara's career in the US was sabotaged by the team of the other singer.
