Haiku Stairs History- Stairway to Heaven (Update Stairs To Be Removed in 2024)

City & County of Honolulu Mayor has awarded a contract for the stairs to be removed in 2024.

History of the Ha'iku Stairs and the US Navy Top Secret Communication System. The stairs were built during World War 2 to install and maintain 7500 foot antenna for the Navy's Top Secret low frequency communication system between ridges of Haiku Valley on Oahu Island in Hawaii. Thank you for sharing. Since I'm not conditioned for hiking of any sort, this was a good way to visit this beautiful trail without having to hike it.The history behind these stairs is even more interesting. Now everytime I am on the H3, I will forever be respectful of the stairs and honor the people behind the building and reasons why the trail is there.
