We must gird ourselves gentlemen. If I'm the one to kick over the hornets nest, I'll do it. The Sufis have some expression for love for God, mindfulness of God, closer to God in death. Do not fear death. Life and Death are one, as all is God. I know life and death are different. All is God; I cannot know the whole of God, alive or dead. I'd like to squeeze a bit, or a lot more out of life; I'll never have it figured, but it's what I've got.
Nobody does it better. I wonder what this might look like if only a black and white filter was used. 3:39 I'd be dead so far, 3/3. 4:27 I did have you before the shot was fired. I pretend to aim and fire, and if I have a reasonable expectation my burst is going to connect, I call it a successful spot. 4/3. 5:14 5/3 cause I would have unloaded. Even the wind wanted to betray your position in that frame. I sometimes wonder if you're working in teams. Probably not. That wouldn't be to the spirit of the exercise, unless it is. 5:46 6/4 I'm very dead again. 6:23 7/5 dead again. That time the shadow manifesting in the center of the three trees caught my focus. I did scan to the left, but not before I would have fired; rather, I scanned to the left, and still fired. Those shadows are particularly tricky, and something feels unnatural about the whole of it; coming from behind the camera, from the left, somewhere around the 7 o' clock high position. Not only that, there's an artificial campsite in frame. 7:13 I would have fired first at the shadowed position where clearly someone has laid for quite some time, or took the time to impress themselves upon it. Lower right, right of the tree, just above and to the right of the gear you'd see in the YT window. I did however, recognize the real position before you fired. I still call that a win. 8/6. 8:12 Went with instinct. 9/6. Great work. Those woods are worked. Where they were, probably where they are, the winds are telling me something that my mind sees, and eyes cannot always comprehend. 8:31 Awesome. Friggin' awesome. Thanks again.
Whenever you were in a sunlit area, you were highly visible. In the shade, especially where there's a lot of foliage, is where this one was most effective.
Agreed, I think it wouldn't be terrible (not ideal in my opinion obviously) in those jungles. I think its best attribute is clearly the enemy confusion aspect.
@@gurugoguzhanson to add onto this, some recon teams made their point man use actual NVA fatigues produced by CISO. most notable example of this is RT West Virginia, which at one point or another, had the entire team running NVA uniforms.
@@Brent0331I think that their main objective was to be confused with Vietcong wearing black pajamas, then came the triple canopy jungle concealment. Maybe the green fatigues (and gear)sprayed with black matte paint were the better camo.
what this really displays is the importance of using proper cover and concealment. even the most basic uniform can hide you if you behave intelligently
How perfect that this showed up in my recommend. I just got done dying a set of ACUs black and wasn't very happy with the outcome. Seeing these definitely gives me a lot more ideas of what to work with.
I feel the face paint helps separate the "blackness" between the hat and shoulders. Once you know you're looking for a man in black clothing he is pretty easy to spot, but if you had know knowledge of their possible camos it seems like it would work well if you planned to be stationary for most of your expedition.
outstanding rendition of the sog warrior rig! i remember seeing pics of them sporting the bare alice frame festooned with canteens, smoke grenades, and a radio.
It's obvious that black blends very well. I am surprised in some ways. Impressive. Your war paint helps as well. This vid is something to keep in mind while blending into your environment. Well done. Thanks!
Kind of laughable how standard olive green fatigues for the US or ARVN or PAVN gabardine green uniforms were just about the best camouflage in the jungles of Vietnam.@@isbee56
I like it. Makes sense along with the OD green gear as a break up. I have some slightly faded black gear for multi-purpose night use. Jet black is obvious without good cover, but it's about how the naked eye perceives color. IR at night picks up unnatural fabric more than the colour schemes.
@Brent0331 : If Possible, I'd Love To See A Video On The Effectiveness of MultiCam Black In A Tactical Environment Just As You Did With The All Black MACVSOG Jungle Utilities. Semper Fidelis, Spiritus Invictus 🇺🇸🦅🌎⚓️🫡‼️
No it isn't lol. Stationary person in all black camo in shade, darkness or against dark surfaces like mud or dirt is extremely hard to see. Bonus points if you wait for sun down. Extremely effective, always good colour. No camo will make you invisible. It just buys you time. I think you made up your mind about black camo before you even watched the video. Black is used in practically every military, and has been in use for 100 years, from WW2, to Vietnam, to the Cold War and even the war between Ukraine and Russia happening right now.
Another outstanding video brother! It would great in that jungle, not so much in our areas, but it’s a part of great history, excellent brother excellent.
Back in 1983 I was one of the original plank owners of a newly formed SWAT team for a Florida Sheriff's Office. SWAT teams were starting to come into play at that time. When we sat down and decided to equip our first team we were trying to decide a uniform to come up with. Camouflage BDU's at that time we considered to aggressive, and total OD Green we considered two military. The mindset was still civilian law enforcement. So we decided to dye the OD Green jungle fatigues black. What we did find out however that when they faded after the first couple of washings they went from a total black to that faded black look that were all familiar with that wasn't total black and wasn't Gray either. We found out through observation that they actually blended in better in darkness cuz even in darkness it's not total black and during the daylight in both Urban environment and in wooded areas that we had to respond to since even in daylight there are no black shadows but " fifty shades of Gray" if you will, and that coloration really worked well. Brent good video as always. Thanks brother, semper Fi. As a side note, back then I carried an M1A1 Thompson with 430 round stick mags and a 1911 45 made by Ithaca. Several years later we turned in on our weapons and got mp5s and Glock 17s. I truly nearly cried when I had to give up my Thompson. Sometimes you just can't beat old school or at least out of the heads of us old timers.
Perhaps if you did an addendum video in low light (twilight evening) the advantage of the black uniform might better show itself. The SOG teams didn't do anything that didn't work for long. Triple canopy can be pretty dark even midday. I really like your uniform videos. Even camo not perfectly matched to the environment can be effective if used properly.
Thanks, this is a one shot one kill video, I wont be doing another one. I think most people get the point, there's enough here to see that it can be effective in the areas where shadow is casted, and in areas of light it silhouettes. I think the enemy confusion factor was the primary reason for this uniform in my opinion.
Great video as always Brent. There was a 2016 zombie movie called the Girl with all the gifts. It took place in the UK and all the British paratroopers featured were wearing Woodland DPM smocks with desert fatigue BDU's. It was a really effective combination. Since seeing that, I've experimented with several conceptually similar combos. I really like m81 woodland tops with m81-type gray "Urban" BDUs for low light conditions in a suburban area. Really breaks up the silhouette quite well. Maybe you could make a video exploring a similar concept?
if you look at old pictures of special forces in middle east you'll see a lot of people wearing woodland tops and Desert bottoms probably so your upper body blends with foliage and your lower blends with the ground
Never understood using the same pattern head to toe. Ends up looking not much different than any solid color. In general patterns should get lighter as they get farther from the ground, though that should be modified per the specific terrain.
@@taylorbennion3706 It was as often because British logistics and war planning wasn't good, their thought process seems to be "why would they need a desert camo smock? Deserts are warm af", however even in UK summers with really dry grass the combo is super effective.
Brent I have watched your vids. On camo comparison. I would like to see a series on hunting camo compared to military camo. Granted hunting camo is not made to mil.spec but I believe the colors and patterns may be more accurate.
The iceman: “some guys did alright in Vietnam. Gotta respect the pajama” Also: “Hey buddy its 10 in the morning don’t you think you got to change out of your pajamas!”
Half the time I feel like I only spot you cause I know what to look for in terms of colors. That won’t always be the case for the opposition. I can see how this would really work in some scenarios.
@brento331 Thanks Brent for this video. Now I don't feel so bad about Mira Safety sending me that all black CBRN military poncho when I ordered the cammo version of that poncho. Because of you I now know how to move wearing that all black CBRN military poncho.
Very cool. I think I’d still stick with the idea of if you’re wearing earth tones and standing or laying in a shadow then you will match the shadow but if you are in black and standing or laying in a shadow you become a super black figure and that’s no good. Like wearing black on a night op with a lot of moon light…bad idea.
Brent: On your first example I found you when I saw a white dot in the foliage, don't know what it was but it was gone when you started to move. It was at 2:12 in the video. Nice Video. Also, those guy in SOG operated at night a lot so Black Camo worked for them.
Black is no better at night than any other colour of camo, if even its worse as under moonlight or a torch its very very easily distinguished from its surroundings
Well, GySgt Brent, All Black BDUs were worn as recently as Iraq( late OIF and Inherent Resolve) , and, even the Iraqi Police Nineveh SWAT Team ,with DCU Boots and Coyote Tan web gear.
I feel like I picked you out of the weeds on a pretty good amount of those shots, but I also knew 100% there is a guy hiding somewhere within camera frame so I'd pick a dark spot and hope I was right. If I'm just walking back from a patrol, you would have sniped me in every single one of the scenarios.
I think this is an underrated comment- yeah, when you pause the video and scan for him knowing he's in the picture, you'll find him. Now decrease time to spot to seconds, and increase search area by a 1000 times, while you're moving. Add in tired, fear, adrenaline, tunnel vision, injury with your own discretion. Camo is not an invisibility cloak. This isn't CoD where your green ghillie suit makes you invisible to the NPCs. It buys you precious seconds.
I recall that the human eye is better adapted to identifying motion. If I made the effort to not focus, but watch for motion, then I found that I did a better job at locating you. Otherwise it came down to looking for darkness that seemed out of place in the environment.
reading Dick Marcinko's stuff, he says that he and his team would actually wear complete VC pj's with sandals and hats to fool the enemy...total guerilla warfare mind set...Marcinko is a beast! R.I.P. brother!
Yeah I think that's near enough 100% of the reason behind these, people forget MACV SOG was full of native Vietnamese soldiers who'd look exactly like a VC if they were dressed right as they were short and had indistinguishable silhouettes from that of a VC.
Too much available light for Black Camo effectiveness as I immediately saw any movement. Even at 5:00 was able to see you behind the bush, due to the black showing through. I do agree it would be quite effectiveness in darker woods and triple canopy.
I recall people doing this in the early days with paint. Best colour for Night or Dark conditions DARK CHOCOLATE BROWN the Goldilocks amount of light absorbtion and shadow blending at night its invisible human eyes and I can see down into almost total darkness with no aclimatisation other than closing my eyes for a minute or two.
This episode of Find Brent was a bit unfair as all I had to do was look for the darkest spot. If I didn't know what you were wearing, it would have been a bit more difficult, and in a triple canopy probably impossible.
Hey @brett0331 with this black camo would you be able to do a dpm dyed blue or green? It looks great specially the dyed green. But for night the blue Is just cool!
Another great video... I've gotten REALLY good at finding you in the bushes... Also, i can't wait for another Christmas Tactical Santa video... Finally, you definitely might wanna have your wife check you for ticks after being in that thick brush all day! Ha!
Honestly, there aren't many ticks in my area. Chiggers are the biggest pain in the ass where I am. I spray my uniforms down with DEET. Takes care of most chiggers and the ticks that are out there.
I picked up a set of black BDU's back in the early 90's. I thought they would be good for hunting. My buddies said I stuck out real bad - and they were hotter than hell ! I didn't use them very many times. It was one of the worse ideas I ever had ! LoL
The Vietnamese use it. The SAS use in black role. Many SWAT teams use it as well. It's all in the manner that you use to adapt to the environment you are in. Well done Brent! Remember to throw on pearls for formal wear - Robin Williams Good Morning Vietnam.🎩🎱🎯♠️🏁🌻🇺🇦🇺🇲🌸🌼💮🔫
@@TerryWhisk Debatable. Black works well indoors. Many times the lighting in buildings is not that good, and bright lights cast deep shadows. Plus stuff to hide behind or under.
To add to buying a few extra seconds, the pointman, wearing black fatigues, would also be wearing the "hat of the day". Of course the intelligence whould have to be right on that one.
Also, if your uniform looks like the enemy, and a local civilian (in a country you are not even supposed to be in) spots you, they might not report it as they assume it is fighters to which they are sympathetic.
Sorry but there was only one instance where I didn't spot you immediately. I think black probably worked very well for a dark thickly vegetated rainforest tho.
I just got the black g3’s for when I wanna get my John stryker myer on…after I got the g4 hit weathers I was hook line n sinker…on my third uniform and I’m no rich dude just grew up n bdu’s runnin round in Ky hills…have 6 old uniforms one from a buddie in the guard….hey where a man get some cool patches to sew on?..thanks Brent …matt

What's up with the noise discipline ? And Yes I don't know if I commented on your channel or not . Dad had two sets of black died jungle Utility"s . And when he got in a certain mood . He would order me to load all the Percussion Colt's . (You Grunts think you had feed problems) . We Had 6 Colts . Not including the to Ponies . Back there in Beaufort C.1970 . And what part of hell is that your Diddy Bopping Through ? Ps just should have had Bob Seeger Turn the Page . Instead of lefty .
And this was in daylight. I am sure most of you were guessing where he was. Imagine it was night time. I keep seeing people making comments that dark blue is better at night over black. Let's be real here, if this was filmed at night, you would have NO CHANCE picking out those black outfits.
This didn't remotely convince me that black is a better choice than a dark green or brown. Any dark subdued color will work when you are 95% concealed by foliage.
It wasn’t meant to convince you, it was meant to be a demonstration. SOG wore it as well as the NVA and Vietcong, you know, the people who lived there. No offense but your personal satisfaction is irrelevant, it’s what they wore. Idk what you’re missing about the jungle it was used in was MUCH thicker and darker than the woods this guy filmed the video in.

@@Brent0331 It might also trick civilian farmers etc. that might spot the patrol, into thinking they were NVA and not reporting them to the real NVA.
@@Brent0331 Sky-lining also took effect, even with the light canopy as the backdrop.
Thanks well said
How perfect that this showed up in my recommend.
This is the first time I could actually find you on every single one tbh
outstanding rendition of the sog warrior rig! i remember seeing pics of them sporting the bare alice frame festooned with canteens, smoke grenades, and a radio.
Appreciate it brother
They early guys used the canteen pouches as magazine pouches, since the mag pouches were slow to open
I’m loving the MAC-V SOG videos brother, keep them coming! It pairs very nicely while I’ve been reading Lynne Black’s book in my spare time.
Appreciate it brother.
Great job blending into the shadows! I'm surprised at how well they worked using that technique.
Man, this is just what I needed.
Your MACV-SOG gear videos are always, out-effin'-standing. Gettin' gungy with the Gunny. Thanks for sharing, you Mighty Awesome Devil Dog. ERRAH!
Appreciate it, by the way brother, I'm a Sgtmaj now.
@@Brent0331 congrats, Sgt. Maj. RAH!!!
It's obvious that black blends very well. I am surprised in some ways. Impressive. Your war paint helps as well. This vid is something to keep in mind while blending into your environment. Well done. Thanks!
I can imagine how, under that triple canopy, how effective that black camo would be. Well done! Thank you very much!
No more effective than the camos available of at the time.
How good is the faded black in the woods at day? thank you.
*multicam black enters the chat* - "so you're saying there's a chance?"
Ha
@Brent0331 : If Possible, I'd Love To See A Video On The Effectiveness of MultiCam Black In A Tactical Environment Just As You Did With The All Black MACVSOG Jungle Utilities. Semper Fidelis, Spiritus Invictus 🇺🇸🦅🌎⚓️🫡‼️
You successfully showed how even in dense foliage, black is quickly and easily detectable. Thank you for this demonstration.
I am a massive black multicam fan but I would personally never touch if my life was on the line
@@famulanrevengeance3044 black is usable at night
But it will stick out like a sore thumb during daytime
I lost track of how many scenes there were but , I was able to spot you 6 times , very cool .
@Solar General yep
Thanks for the insight brother. Always funny seeing the old SWAT team photos and video of guys running around with Vietnam era flaks and gear.
As always - well done!
Thanks for putting in the effort to make these videos.
Many thanks!
Awesome video. Thank you for the content!
My pleasure!
Not to mention the most important factor, it looks really cool.
Some of the camo in the passed I couldn’t find you but I spotted you every time in this one. Great video 👍 as always.
Perhaps if you did an addendum video in low light (twilight evening) the advantage of the black uniform might better show itself. The SOG teams didn't do anything that didn't work for long. Triple canopy can be pretty dark even midday. I really like your uniform videos. Even camo not perfectly matched to the environment can be
effective if used properly.
Thanks, this is a one shot one kill video, I wont be doing another one. I think most people get the point, there's enough here to see that it can be effective in the areas where shadow is casted, and in areas of light it silhouettes. I think the enemy confusion factor was the primary reason for this uniform in my opinion.
Always have the best knowledge to lay on us, appreciate you!
Thanks for watching brother.
Works pretty well even there with less top/ canopy coverage, using the foliage to your advantage, nice!!!
Very effective initially. Only discernible by movement. Great video as usual.
Great video! 👍
Outstanding video brother. Semper Fi. Respectfully; 0331 w/ 1/9, 2/1 and 1/4.
Semper Fi brother, I served in 1/4 as well "What ever it takes!".
Good stuff man. 🥃
Thanks brother
I love these videos about camouflage. Great job 👍
Great videos Brent, keep it coming I like tour channel.,
Thanks 👍
I've applied this for years when hunting. I like the two tone approach. Just taylor to the environment/time of year.
@@taylorbennion3706 It was as often because British logistics and war planning wasn't good, their thought process seems to be "why would they need a desert camo smock? Deserts are warm af", however even in UK summers with really dry grass the combo is super effective.
Definitely has its place. Surprisingly effective really. Thanks again and great job.
Like all of your videos but these are my favorite
Brent I have watched your vids. On camo comparison. I would like to see a series on hunting camo compared to military camo. Granted hunting camo is not made to mil.spec but I believe the colors and patterns may be more accurate.
The iceman: “some guys did alright in Vietnam. Gotta respect the pajama”
Also: “Hey buddy its 10 in the morning don’t you think you got to change out of your pajamas!”
The black blended in surprisingly well.
I’m not gonna lie, I saw damn near every spot you were hiding before you fired the shot, you got me on the second one though. Maybe try bdus next
Very cool. I think I’d still stick with the idea of if you’re wearing earth tones and standing or laying in a shadow then you will match the shadow but if you are in black and standing or laying in a shadow you become a super black figure and that’s no good. Like wearing black on a night op with a lot of moon light…bad idea.
Great! thank you
Glad you liked it!
Great stuff Brent...anymore livesteams soon? Those bad boys are a ton of fun and very informative.
In a couple weeks, I have some stuff going on this week that is going to tie me up.
That black and green setup is what the Indonesian Army's Combat Reconnaissance (Taipur) unit currently wear. Love the video
Good video. Just wait till night time😀
Brent: On your first example I found you when I saw a white dot in the foliage, don't know what it was but it was gone when you started to move. It was at 2:12 in the video. Nice Video. Also, those guy in SOG operated at night a lot so Black Camo worked for them.
Black is no better at night than any other colour of camo, if even its worse as under moonlight or a torch its very very easily distinguished from its surroundings
There was a few were I noticed your face paint before I necessarily recognized and outline and the black blend well with the darker trees for sure
The dye job makes me curious how well the US Sharpshooter's green dyed union blue uniforms from the civil war would do
I recall that the human eye is better adapted to identifying motion. If I made the effort to not focus, but watch for motion, then I found that I did a better job at locating you. Otherwise it came down to looking for darkness that seemed out of place in the environment.
Do you play Prairie Fire? The timing of your videos is interesting
And proned out and in the shadows worked pretty well
No.
In any case, cool vid. Love seeing the old nam camo. Have you already done one with green tiger stripe?
@@Operator11B yes
reading Dick Marcinko's stuff, he says that he and his team would actually wear complete VC pj's with sandals and hats to fool the enemy...total guerilla warfare mind set...Marcinko is a beast! R.I.P. brother!
Yeah I think that's near enough 100% of the reason behind these, people forget MACV SOG was full of native Vietnamese soldiers who'd look exactly like a VC if they were dressed right as they were short and had indistinguishable silhouettes from that of a VC.
Hey, as always nice video.
I found out that black doesn't really works in forest during my airsoft skirmishes. Ha ha. 😅
Really enjoy your channel have used some of your tips would love to post a few of the home made/ solider made items we have made
Too much available light for Black Camo effectiveness as I immediately saw any movement. Even at 5:00 was able to see you behind the bush, due to the black showing through. I do agree it would be quite effectiveness in darker woods and triple canopy.
No more effective than OD green and probably less so than that of at the time contemporary camos, camo patterns are affected by shadows too.
Every time he shoots my heart stops and I’m like damn…I died
Semper Fidelis from Nebraska
I recall people doing this in the early days with paint. Best colour for Night or Dark conditions DARK CHOCOLATE BROWN the Goldilocks amount of light absorbtion and shadow blending at night its invisible human eyes and I can see down into almost total darkness with no aclimatisation other than closing my eyes for a minute or two.
Good Stuff! Thanks!
I would argue in certain jungles, Multicam black pieces like pouches might go well with tiger stripe and Multicam tropic, too break up signature.
This episode of Find Brent was a bit unfair as all I had to do was look for the darkest spot. If I didn't know what you were wearing, it would have been a bit more difficult, and in a triple canopy probably impossible.
Absolutely. being a shadow will be your best friend.
yep in shadows or behind cover only or stationary or very slow movement..so i would say more for the enemy Indentification friend or foe delay
Agreed.
Thanks. Regards.
Black bears blend well in dark forests….nature don’t lie.
The terrain looks familiar.
Where is this at ?
Thanks for the video
LoL
You gotta know how to hide in shadows and how to break up your outline
Shadow blended in 💯❤️
The Vietnamese use it.
Police use it for the authoritative look it imparts not its camouflage abilities
@@TerryWhisk Debatable. Black works well indoors. Many times the lighting in buildings is not that good, and bright lights cast deep shadows. Plus stuff to hide behind or under.
@@famulanrevengeance3044 yeah I guess, but it’s not strictly used for camouflage.
Great video, how do you dye your cammies?
Bucket, following the instructions on the back. I don't have any special tricks.
To add to buying a few extra seconds, the pointman, wearing black fatigues, would also be wearing the "hat of the day". Of course the intelligence whould have to be right on that one.
Can you try early Vietnam Arvn 44th battalion yellow and black stripe m1 helmet or other arvn camoflage
AWAY better than I thought it would be
this is nice a fatigue one, so why don't you try a JGSDF camo one like Jieitai for effectiveness then
Also, if your uniform looks like the enemy, and a local civilian (in a country you are not even supposed to be in) spots you, they might not report it as they assume it is fighters to which they are sympathetic.
Sorry but there was only one instance where I didn't spot you immediately. I think black probably worked very well for a dark thickly vegetated rainforest tho.
sir, can you make a video about PenCott Wildwood?
Maybe, problem is I only have a combat shirt with the pattern.
What do you think about the faded black effectiveness and which boonie hat are you wearing? Thank you.

Yup a lot of people with black bdu on the delta too...
