Every time I see River Phoenix, I get sad, he was already a prolific actor when he passed, Joaquin Phoenix’s Academy speech honored his big brother in such a touching way💔

Same! I'm happy knowing that he was able to achieve so much in his short life and try to honor the amazing person he was but it is just so sad to know that such an amazing person with such amazing talent isn't here anymore, and wasn't even able to be here for long either 😔

This movie is based on a shortstory by Stephen King called "The body". This movie is exceptionally directed and the acting is superb. The chemistry between the kids are also phenomenal.

Small correction, it’s a novella. A short story can span 1,000 words. A novella can span 10,000 and more.

"Stand By Me" was adapted from Stephen King's short story, "The Body," marking a departure from typical horror as it unfolds into a poignant coming-of-age tale. The core horror element revolves around the discovery of a deceased body.
Notably, River Phoenix, who portrayed Chris Chambers, was the brother of Joaquin Phoenix. The lead character, resembling a youthful version of you, is played by Wil Wheaton. Jerry O'Connell has since shed his baby fat, showcasing a transformation in his appearance. Corey Feldman, a prominent child actor of the '80s, featured in numerous iconic films, including a collaboration with Kiefer Sutherland in "The Lost Boys."

0:28 I was thirteen when this movie came out, and it's been a favourite even since. Such a Classic.
11:18 Actually walked a train bridge like this several times when I was young, the ties were pretty close together so you'd be hard-pressed to fall in between. Also, it was after trains had stopped funning in my neck of the woods so the danger was significantly lessened.
22:36 This bit is especially rough since River Phoenix died at the age of twenty-three. It never fails to get me. 😢

This is a classic and one of my favorites. It was hugely influential in that coming of age/adventure genre. A lot of filmmakers of today grew up watching this movie.
When you mentioned that it sounded like this was a book, you were probably picking up on Stephen King’s style. You can hear it in the narration, dialog, and characters for sure

    "Do you think I'm weird?"
    "Definitely."
"No man, seriously. Am I weird?"
"Yeah, but so what? Everybody's weird."
Fun Fact: Theatrical film debut of Jerry O'Connell.
Author Approved Fact: After director Rob Reiner screened the movie for Stephen King, he noticed that King was visibly shaking and wasn't speaking. He left the room and upon his return, told Reiner that the movie was the best adaptation of his work he had ever seen.
Sky High Fact: Kiefer Sutherland claimed in an interview that in one of the locations of the film, a Renaissance Fair was being held and the cast and crew attended and bought some cookies. Unfortunately, the cookies turned out to be pot cookies and two hours later, the crew found Jerry O'Connell crying and high on the cookies somewhere in the park.
The Four Musketeers Fact: River Phoenix, Corey Feldman, Wil Wheaton, and Jerry O'Connell got into a lot of mischief in the hotel they were staying in during filming. This included throwing all the poolside furniture into the pool, Wheaton fixing video games in the lobby so they could play them for free and Phoenix (spurred on by the other boys) unknowingly covering Kiefer Sutherland's car in mud, only discovering whose car it was when Sutherland confronted a scared and nervous Phoenix about it later.

As everybody else has pointed out, this movie is based on a story by Stephen King. He’s always called a horror writer, but he’s written books in all kinds of different genres- drama, comedy, mystery, science fiction, suspense, horror, and even several non-fiction books about topics like the horror genre, the writing process, and baseball. He’s even published several poems. King is a fascinating guy, very down-to-earth and funny, but also clearly extremely intelligent. You should look up some interviews with him.

What’s doubly fascinating is that Different Seasons is the collection of four novellas which contains The Body, and it’s written under his pen name of Bachman. All four would become feature films- Stand By Me, Apt Pupil, The Shawshank Redemption, and The Running Man.

favorite movie of all time. i've seen it more times than i can count. some "fun facts" (idk how "fun" they are, but i digress)...originally everyone but gordie was supposed to have died. they decided to rewrite it with one, picking chris to be the one to day. very eerie seeing how river is the one out of the group that died young. will wheaton was channeling his own neglectful childhood and emotionally abusive parents in his acting. he went on to write a book describing how horrific his childhood was. jerry o'connell has a big heart. he's often said it breaks his heart that the other boys were going through so much in their personal lives and he couldn't do anything to help. will and corey have both told him to stop that kind of thinking, that he was just a child himself and there's nothing he could have done. rob reiner is also a class act. he's said in the past his biggest regret in film is a moment during filming the train scene where he was yelling at the boys behind the scenes. he said the way he spoke to them was inexcusable and it's a weight he still carries. i think what makes this film so special is how real and raw it feels. these boys were channeling some very real things to create these characters, and it's heartbreaking. but they've also talked about how cathartic this movie was for them in their lives. rob reiner looked out for them and made sure they felt safe on set (aside from his one outburst) and that's something i don't think they got much of in their lives at the time. this movie always makes me cry. i've seen it probably more than 20 times, and i cry every. single time. river was a gift. his acting was a gift. i hope he knows that all these years later, that gift is still beloved and appreciated by so many.

Teddy(Corey Feldman) was in films like The Goonies, The Lost Boys, and 2 of the Friday the 13th films. River Phoenix played in Sneakers and as a hustler in love with Keanu in My Own Private Idaho. He died at Johnny Depp’s club the Viper Room of an OD. Will Wheaton(Gordy)the young main character played in Star Trek: The Next Generation and The Big Bang Theory. Verne(Jerry O’Connell) is a host on The Talk and was in the remake of Pirahana. You were right that was actor John Cusack playing the late brother. The older Gordy(Richard Dreyfuss) is an Oscar winner for The Goodbye Girl. He is best known for his work in JAWS and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Rob Reiner played “Meathead” in All in the Family before becoming a famous director. Misery got Kathy Bates a Best Actress Oscar. When Harry Met Sally won screenwriter Nora Ephron A British Screen Award.

Super 8 was Stand By Me meets the Alien, which is a cool concept. I just wish they had made the alien more frightening when we did see it. If it had have been made in the year it was set, they wouldn't stick to the not too scary, for the PG-13 rating. They'd have gone all out, as there was no PG-13.

If you want to know about this movie more in depth from me, stand by me is a 1986 movie and it got river Phoenix into the limelight was the movie even before that and that was a fact explorers TV rolls and TV movie productions so you should know that But if you want the truth, I didn’t walk the tracks too just like they did and this is opposite of walking the line with his brother Joaquin Phoenix, when was best movies that he did and You should know that stand by me is a beloved classic movie is based from Steven Kane, and his bulk lied about all the 4 seasons is one of the stories that Stephen Kane was most known for as an author in the name of that was the body. The movie itself was not gonna be named as the body since it’s going to b more about queen of age and friends, trying to find a place in life and is very much philosophical kind of a movie about life’s lessons. How are they going to learn it as their parents will not teach them about it so so it is about well Wheaton and River, Phoenix, and Corey Feldman and Jeri O’Connell going to see a dead body without some obstacles in the way, like Kiefer Sutherland, who is the son of Donald Sutherland you might know him from back and other movies like the hunger games, or the Buffy movie vampire movie, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, movie, and Backdraft, and the hunger games and all those things
And yes, I know about the death of river phoenix in 1993 he died of drugs. They changed some around in that newspaper clipping, and it look like he died by trying to stop fight. In a convenient store or something I would know they switch it up all that in the story of the body showed that Vern got killed by his brother and his brother went to jail. Then Teddy got killed, and now our guy went to jail and the two boys that was the ones who saw by never reported it. They are arrested, and went to jail For so many years for not reporting it, but as for Chris Chambers also died in the book too, and Gordy Lance was the only one that on it had Elise amount of a beat down by ace and eyeball, and after years later, he did forgive him, but it turns out that he was married a Merle got married to someone just smiled at him and went back inside. This is according to the novelization of it the body, but eyeball chambers went to jail of murder. I was brother, and he went for life they had to switch the things around for the ending of the movie where
And he had to do our jobs around Castle rock, because of his obsessed nature again into the army, but his eye, his ear kept him out of it, so he was arrested for it, and all that habit to jail, and doing odd jobs around Castle, rock of Maine, and then there, Gordy and Chris Went to college, and he got to be a novelist just like his dad didn’t want him to be, and as for Chris Chambers, he was stabbed in the convenience store, and he died almost instantly not just say that he did drugs, and died almost instantly. No, that would’ve been a premonition of what would have happened to him what would happen to River Phoenix That would happen and I like that or they all that happen and that the early events of what would have happened according to the book or Zoey, a grim ending not just the book so I would know about that because I walk to tracks I read the story out of the four seasons no story from a novelist known as Stephen Kane and I do have a movie for you to do. I know you’re only do it for Patreon but don’t be so reliant on that and let people tell you what to watch you. Watch what you wanna watch? I’m glad that this person Suggested this one to you, but that suggested for you to do first time movie watch of
S her as Marty McFly‘s mom, and from how are the duck and tails from the crypt do you know who she is it Leah Thompson? You know her from those early acting that she was in if she was in space camp with walking Phoenix and couple others that you might know I’ll have going on, but however, just thought I would mention this to you so you can do a first time movie watch on
    Space camp 1986
And this movie is between explorer and stand by me early actors in the 1980s because I would know I grew up in the 1980s when river Phoenix was acting and Johnny Depp was acting or just starting out acting so feel free take my take my idea and do a first movie watch just don’t be so reliant on Patreon Listen to me patron is a place where control over other peoples RUclips channels I know you would have done the first movie watch on standby me anyways when that is not really the attention Rob Reiner name that he wanted to name of the body but since the book had that name and the first place, so he switched it to standby me And I hope that brings more things to light for you and I hope that you go back and look at the not just a movie but I got couple movies for you to do movie with Kiefer, Sutherland, Keanu Reeves, and Laura Lofgren is and I hope that you add these movies to your watchlist. I really hope that you actually listen for once, and don’t be so reliant on Patreon and here they are.
    Space camp
    Brotherhood of Justice
Both of these movies is in fact in the same year as this movie was for stand by me, you would know these movies was in 1986 so feel free and take my advice and my request as of your and subscriber. Don’t let Patreon people take control over your channel, I would know your channel is your channel and I am requesting of you too. Do a first movie watch of space Camp in brotherhood of Justice. Trust me these movies are awesome too just like this one because channel Reeves and Laura Lofgren and Keith Sutherland is in that movie too. I highly recommend it trust me. I will not lie about that buddy whatever your name is, I would custody as a friend too , but other than that I wanna say I am just letting you know don’t be so reliant on pitching on because it’s not worth it. If you do these movies, I would do this as a friend would don’t be reliant on Patreon when they are in fact people what to do with your channel , your control your own RUclips channel and not these freeloaders going onto your channel and Sonia what to do but mean you can meet in between I guess and you know what to do space camp brotherhood of Justice is the ones that you should do next after this one because you need this one chronically and 1986 going to want to do
    Spence camp
    Brotherhood of Justice
And both of them is in 1986, so I hope you get that chance to take my request if you want much love Robbie

This movie has aged so badly. Rob Reiner did better elsewhere.
