yall know that 9th wonder was doing these chops years before donuts. like back in '96. donuts came ut in 2006. imao, I love dilla but he was part of a wave of influence in vocal chops and unquantized drums lol.
just cuz he was doing it before doesnt mean he wasnt inspired by dilla, he has said it in multiple interviews that dilla is a big influence of his and his style
I love the complexity of the sample as a whole, how it goes back and forth. Just amazing. Obviously there are going to be many more examples of that kind of beat however
It seems as if the producer layered a drum beat matched to the tempo of the sample, then going off purely on ear, cut off parts of the song he found to be melodically significant, if you count the number of isolated chops there is about 16 which is just the standard amount of pads on a usual MPC so this definitely had to have been played on a MPC, not chopped through editing in a daw or such. You could also get the same effect by of course time stretching the sample to any drum sample in any bpm you want and then get chopping! Other than that this is really one of those things that seem hard from the outside but it’s really not, the producer just was having a lot of fun and that fun definitely shows
Apparently Common and The Game. The first beat on Duckworth was passed on by The Game, and the second and third beat were passed on by Common. All three beats produced by 9th 🤦🏼♂️
This is one of my favorite sample flip ups of all time, but it still bugs me a tiny bit that they didn’t take away the drums in the original sample before laying the other drum beat over it. You can hear this after the beat drop, subtle but audible.
Probably my favourite song off DAMN, shame doesn't also list the sample from Hiatus Kaiyote that gets used as well later in the song, but I guess it's not an integral sample for the whole song overall
You know you’re too used to the actual song when you just expected the beat to drop at that right moment
LMAOOOO
yep
that my - (beat drop) OH LAMAR

Oh lamar
The way he makes the word darling sound like duck is fucking brilliant

you just blew my mind
probably not even intentional because the beat was made before the lyris were written

i haven't heard a sample chopped this well since J Dilla's donuts. Cool to see this visualized also.
9th wonder works magic man
9th has literally been making beats like this before Donuts even dropped
Daft made a lot of those
Yeah Leaf Dog is amazing. 6 years before this track was released.
You’ve really been missing out on some great sample chops then if that’s the case
These visuals are insane!!!
yea the visualization really helps to decode how they sampled it.
@@chriskeegan 🙌🏾🙏🏾
It's true what they say, once you hear donuts you only hear dilla's influence on production again and again
9th is in no way underrated, but this is probably the best flip of the 2010's, with a couple Apollo Brown joints as well
Too bad its already been sampled like this by LEAF DOG. UK!! Almost exactly the same.

Orchestral Masterpiece of Outro.

favorite imo

@@RM-wp7df and Pride too
Hiatus Kaiyote also sampled later in the song, favorite part
YESSSSS!!!! I thought they were going to break down the whole song, not just the beginning. I was so ready for that part.
I just listened to Atari and heard it
My favorite part is Ostavi Trag
@@GJ-bi5cr there is a video where 9th break down the whole song that's the link ruclips.net/video/23vumiogTQk/видео.html

0:32 is where it actually starts

9th wonders eye for samples never disappoints 👀🔥.
Eye?

3rd duckworth beat samples Hiatus Kaiyote - Atari, and the drum break is sampled off of Fatback band - Let the Drums Speak
From ludacris to Kenny Lamar this will be forever a classic beat
Did luda use the same beat? And what’s the song if that is?

More like Duckworth part 1. Part 2 is so soulful. I believe the sample is Ostavi Trag by September
You should update this video and break down all the 3 different beats in this songs 'cause they're insane
The most INTRICATE breakdown of a sample I’ve ever seen!! Salute!
One the best hip hop basslines
This channel is a producers paradise
these videos are so damn satisfying
The “darling” is so sick
one of 9th wonders masterpiece
Probably the greatest sample of all time
9th was going crazy with this sample. You can tell just by the song itself
9th always said Dilla influenced him in every way. I truly believe if he was alive to hear this beat, he would be proud.
