@TomSandsGuitars It conveys a classy cool insider perspective, safe for celebrities, "exclusive", insider, laid back, mentoring, inside information, etc. The term "green room" generally refers to a backstage room where performers wait before going on stage. It's the place where people show off their instruments, it's where some custom guitar makers try to sell their stuff to top billing performers, it's where people talk about guitar, jam, get drunk and high, and screw groupies. It’s used across various performing arts especially live music, stand up comedy, television talk shows and live concerts. In the us, there's many bars, restaurants, music venues named Green Room. There you'll find Actors, artists, musicians, and even magicians! So it's instantly recognizable to most live performers. The green room serves as a place for performers to relax, prepare, or gather before their performance. Despite the name, a green room doesn’t necessarily have to be painted green, it's just a VERY OLD industry term. Some people call it "back stage" but people on the INSIDE, like performers, all know it as "the Green room".
For the same money you can buy a nice old Les Paul Gold Top,pay to get luthier work done, and have a fantastic tone machine. Most players hate the trapeze bridge, but that can be upgraded these days and a pro craftsman can reset the neck angle to 54 or 55 specs. The important point is that the wood is almost 200 years old and the guitar will sing all day like a high quality violin or viola. I am not interested in paying 15 grand for that special Gibson aging and baking process. Or, are we supposed help Gibson pay their Super Lawyer retainer fees for the DiMarzio Pickups litigation ? I love old Gibson electric guitars, and I hope and pray the Corporate Leadership at Gibson Guitars decides on day soon to start wearing their heads right side up on the shoulders. Thanks for great posting!
Only the Collectors Run of 50 run was actually played by Jimmy. I have one of the 50 and I think it is very speciial to have a guitar that Jimmy chose to recreate. He not only signed the back of the headstock, but he actually played the 50 collectors edition run, each fopr about 4 minutes. And, it comes with the actual pick he used to play it with. I didn't buy this guitar becuase I needed another one to play. I bought it because I am a huge JP fan and it is a safe investment that I can actually enjoy. Especially because it is aged.
Safe investment? I am not so sure about that. If Gibson keeps up flooding the market with questionable "authentic" reissues like they do these days, it might be a miscalculation. Especially when they take run-of-the-mill guitars and upgrade them just by letting the signature artist play them for 4 minutes each and/or sign them. At least you got some Jimmy Page DNA delivered with it (sweat, dandruffs). But, of course, it´s your decision and as long as you are happy with it...
Wow, love your guitar Tom; especially the open headstock; never even thought you could make them like that. Super cool. And yeah, Ive never been much impressed with Gibson's way of doing things, so this is another example. Glad to see Tony on here; you guys both know you're shit.
I was under the impression that Page borrowed the guitar from Big Jim Sullivan who was a session guitarist that Page knew and worked with during his session days...there is clip of Page playing White Summer on that guitar on the Julie Felix show in 1970...(fyi, the video portion of the clip is severely damaged but you can definitely tell what guitar Page is playing....you can find it on YT)
Stringbreak_UK sounds like the UK version of the B.I.G. event in Texas. A very intimate show. Less pejorative on the builder ages at B.I.G, pretty much open to all. WRT SJ200, what a snooze.
Jimmy doesn’t tour and hasn’t in a decade. He’s basically retired, and if I recall has considerable hearing loss. An artist model for an artist that doesn’t perform anymore and thus can’t provide input to help develop an artist model is definitely a cash grab.
If Fender or Gibson et al heard a famous musician played air guitar when they were younger....they'd make a custom shop air guitar, a master build air guitar...etc Don't start me on the "based on a 59, 62 blah blah blah" !!!
I’ve always shunned signature guitars because they just seem like a way for companies to add a little to the bottom line at year end. The celebrity signature or endorsement means very little to me and wouldn’t factor into a purchase decision. Having said that when I was introduced to a very special 00028ECM (Carpathian Spruce /Madagascar Rosewood) I broke down and instantly opened my wallet. The price was dear but the guitar was as fine as any I have ever played or heard, and that is a lot of very fine acoustic guitars. Martin struck gold with the various iterations of the Clapton 000 because they had their priorities straight. The guitar first and foremost is a fantastic instrument. It’s superbly well made, very attractive (despite the shell signature on the fretboard), not over the top cosmetically and reachable by mere mortals. Gibson missed the boat here because the guitar itself is simply not a very good instrument. The price is simply put, stupid!
Tom is absolutely right about the J200, they are awful in a lot of ways: Not very loud, the bulky bridge with the inlays and next to no neck angle means getting a reasonable action is not easy. Not too sure if he has thought about doing an homage to the marque, I'm sure he could outshine the build quality, but price would be a great issue then.
This guitar is not aimed at players. It is aimed at stockbrokers, lawyers, doctors and accountants with money to burn. Sure it is a cash grab. And there is a market for it. And if it keeps prices for player guitars down, then that iscgreat. My personal preference is for vintage Gibson archtops, but I love my Hummingbird Artist and J-185EC. I was eying a 2017 Super 200, but the J185 is more than big enough for me. I think that the griping over these limited models makes both of you look like the fox in the fox and grapes fable. Jimmy was known for being notoriously cheap he played a cheap Danelctro and mostly played a lot of cheaper Acoustic guitars that he liked, he had a Hoffner, a Harmony , and a Yamaha. He borrowed a Gibson 200 Acoustic guitar from a friend to record with. Though after the first two albums he bought a Martin D28. Fact: He played Stairway to Heaven on the Harmony.
He played Martin's on stage with LZ and later he used Washburns touring with Plant. And didn't he use a Harmony Sovereign on Stairway? Rick Beato did pretty elaborate video recreation of Ramble On, in accordance with LZ session lore. The guitar was big Vox acoustic with a bolt-on neck. Smells like more of a cash grab.
IMHO the most obvious cash grab since the ridiculous "most authentic" re-re-re-issue of the 59 PAFs in a kinda grandma jewels box. One mans stupidity is the other mans profit. The more stupid people, the higher the gain. You don´t even have to be very inventive. This worked long before Snake Oil and will obviously work until the self-inflicted end of the human race on this planet.
Yeah, it's definitely a cash grab. But there only making them because people are buying then. It is also cool to see cezar getting artists back working with gibson after so many bridges were burned in the past. I would argue every big manufacturer is doing the exact same thing to a different extent. It's nice to see you guys together again. Still down after acoustic tuseday ending.
I get this "everyone wants to feel like their idol" which of course they do. But Jimmy Page didn't play the "Jimmy Page Signature SJ200" guitar, Mark Knopfler didn't play the "Mark Knopfler Signature '58 Les Paul" and Eric Clapton certainly didn't play the 000-28EC at the Unplugged concert... so keep being cynical!
What's crazy is most of these reissues are more expensive than the originals, I have around 15 60's-70's Gibsons mostly Les Pauls and 335's their built much better with the exception of post 74 Norlins.
@@TomSandsGuitarsI know it's the internet but it seems kind of crass to me to heavily criticise another guitar before reviewing your own guitar in such gushing terms. There's no need for it. The soundhole pictured is from a guitar I have built.
I love Page….I love bursts….I love J200s….but not this. Its not the most subtle burst is it? The bridge ….wheres that confounded bridge. Maybe its IS the “confounded bridge”.
If you need a $14k-$20k guitar to inspire you to play music , you may want to go see a psychiatrist . In 1938 the SJ200 was $200 , which is $4500 adjusted for inflation . Today a SJ200's are around $5500 -$5800+ .
When all the termites don't die the structure must be retented. and the borrowed guitar?....John Bonham threw it in the fire pit an poured lighter fluid on it and appreciated the sweet perfume of burning maple. Kids don't try this at home. Only the greats are allowed to burn guitars in fire pits. ; )
A blatant cash grab. They made 1 of these for old Jimbo and expect common citizens to buy the rest of the inventory to make up for the costs. Meanwhile, they are giving guitars away to some girl in GA.
Even if I had the money I would never be gullible enough to buy one of these nonsense guitars. If Gibson and Martin hadn't forgotten how to make a great guitar then these editions would be more acceptable.
Maaan, I think Gibson jumbos are SO ugly too. There is not a single thing I find to be attractive about them as an instrument. I always feel like that is an unpopular opinion though. The majority of Gibson guitars I see I find to be quite ugly though, honestly. They just look garish and flashy to me. I think the J-45 and L-00’s are decent looking guitars but way overpriced for what they are. Anyway, I am gratified to know I am not the only one who thinks Gibson jumbos are just butt ugly.
For 20k they should make videos of him playing and signing every guitar before shipment. Gibson is on crack, literally, my 2016 Freddie King cracked in the top. So many better guitars out there for $3500!
Jeeez... 15 to 20 k for a guitar with such a questionable tone killer bridge (not to confuse with a killer tone bridge 🤣)? It´s definitely for all who got more money than talent. Seems to mie that Gibson does this aolso to make the run-of-the-mill stuff look cheap and affordable.

I agree with Tom and Tony but I would add that to me Gibson acoustics are mass produced and without sole. Maybe back in the day they had something to offer but the SJ 200 nowadays may as well be made from laminate. I am of the Led Zep era and don’t remember Jimmy Page being particularly associated with acoustics. Sure there are tracks like Bron y Aur stomp and Stairway to heaven but my overwhelming memories were his Les Pauls and Double necked SG. For the money you could buy a handmade acoustic with a unique voice which are a real joy to play.
@@TomSandsGuitars I’m also a big fan of slotted headstocks, always have been I have a number of Fyldes including Ariel’s in redwood/bubinga, redwood/Claro walnut, spruce/brazilian. Thanks for the info!
I was told he played the D28 on Stairway... 🤔
@@flyingstratosurfer6285 Jimmy Page told the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Guitar World that he played his Harmony Sovereign on Stairway to Heaven.
@@flyingstratosurfer6285 He is seventy now maybe he is misremembering.
Love Ricks videos!
We love Tom Sands don’t we.
💖🙏
Yeah, it's definitely a cash grab. But there only making them because people are buying then. It is also cool to see cezar getting artists back working with gibson after so many bridges were burned in the past. I would argue every big manufacturer is doing the exact same thing to a different extent. It's nice to see you guys together again. Still down after acoustic tuseday ending.
Thanks Kevin! It’s an honour to work with legend like Tony on this!
Thanks Ads
What's crazy is most of these reissues are more expensive than the originals, I have around 15 60's-70's Gibsons mostly Les Pauls and 335's their built much better with the exception of post 74 Norlins.
Yup!
Goes on about an SJ200 being ugly then pulls out his own guitar that looks like a cricket bat
Talk to me about the sound hole in your profile picture, what’s going on there?
@@TomSandsGuitarsI know it's the internet but it seems kind of crass to me to heavily criticise another guitar before reviewing your own guitar in such gushing terms. There's no need for it. The soundhole pictured is from a guitar I have built.
@@radioking the irony of your comments is top notch. Thanks radioking
@@TomSandsGuitars Thanks Alanis
I love Page….I love bursts….I love J200s….but not this. Its not the most subtle burst is it? The bridge ….wheres that confounded bridge. Maybe its IS the “confounded bridge”.
@@petecoates6410 it’s a hard pass for me
Yep! Me too. Burst more like a stencil. 😫
Six-String Shenanigans
Oooooh
If you need a $14k-$20k guitar to inspire you to play music , you may want to go see a psychiatrist . In 1938 the SJ200 was $200 , which is $4500 adjusted for inflation . Today a SJ200's are around $5500 -$5800+ .
Each to their own, I suppose
When all the termites don't die the structure must be retented. and the borrowed guitar?....John Bonham threw it in the fire pit an poured lighter fluid on it and appreciated the sweet perfume of burning maple. Kids don't try this at home. Only the greats are allowed to burn guitars in fire pits. ; )
Exactly
When Jimmy says "kids" he means 50 year olds
Big kids
A blatant cash grab. They made 1 of these for old Jimbo and expect common citizens to buy the rest of the inventory to make up for the costs. Meanwhile, they are giving guitars away to some girl in GA.
Yeah interesting point
Even if I had the money I would never be gullible enough to buy one of these nonsense guitars. If Gibson and Martin hadn't forgotten how to make a great guitar then these editions would be more acceptable.
Gibson is trying to repeat the success they had with the Noel Gallagher signature models.
Which I suppose you can’t really blame them for
Of course it's a cash grab. That's what Gibson does, and that's what Jimmy does. They've done it before this and they'll do it again.
Yeah, no really getting around it
Maaan, I think Gibson jumbos are SO ugly too.
Judging by the comments, I feel we share that unpopular opinion 🤝
🤝 well, there’s no accounting for taste.
Can U get it with nut size 1. 575..artist super taper.. T. You..
@@rogersimmons5410 get what?
For 20k they should make videos of him playing and signing every guitar before shipment. Gibson is on crack, literally, my 2016 Freddie King cracked in the top. So many better guitars out there for $3500!
‘Gibson is on crack’ should have been the title of the video
I love Jimmy, but everything he touches these days is a cash grab. It's gross.
Yeah it’s hard not to get worked up about
I’ll stick with my 2018 J35 that probably sounds better and got a rave review by Matt Chulka himself
Matt is the man!
Could be!
Blimey. The editing here makes this unwatchable. What’s with the jumping every second and a half?
It’s the intro. Pretty standard format. 👍

@@Hankboomer you’re entitled to your opinion, just like we are. Thanks for watching 😘
