  • I found an obscure mountain in Japan called Mt. Myojin and spent a day getting to it and then hiking up the path to the top. Mt. Myojin is on the border of Nara and Osaka Prefectures in central Japan, just outside the town of Oji. The top of the mountain offers observation platforms and promises views in 360º over the landscapes below. On the day I was there, there were signs everywhere warning of psychotic boars and poisonous snakes. And gigantic bees were buzzing ominously around. Plus, there were some unnerving emergency announcements that made me wonder if human civilization was collapsing all of a sudden. What can you do in these circumstances? Soldier on through, to see those views.
