"don't isolate yourself from the fandom when you aren't feeling great". I did this a lot in the past when I was suffering from depression and ended a lot of friendships that way. I've learnt that a lot of people are willing to help you through whatever you're dealing with. And if they're not willing/can't help, they're understanding of your circumstances and give you the space you need. Isolating myself was also really bad for my social skills and kinda being able to mask my autism.

I don’t regret anything as a furry myself, I don’t regret discovering e621/18+ content, not finding out the drama, not even not going to a furry convention at all or not having a fullsuit despite being a furry for over 6 years now, life is short, too short to try and “fit in” like everyone else in the sense of “having” to get a fursuit, gong to a con, having 15 fursonas etc just be yourself ya fluffbutts because being yourself as a furry makes you one of the brightest shining stars in the sky.💖

Been a furry for like 8 years now.
I genuinely cannot imagine my life without this fandom.
It is so incredibly wholesome and amazing.
I just wish people werent so hateful towards things they dont understand, so we would get less hate.
But other than that, this fandom truly made my existence a nicer one.
People have a choice of how they act when they wake up, and some choose salty
Silver muzzle furry here, retired USAF and furry...well always furry but some in the fandom about about 2007. Is 72 now, though I must admit my head has not realized that yet. Wish I had found it earlier, but glad I found it when I did. Cons, well a couple of times in the early years I went overboard drinking in room parties, but I had a shell I had to get out of. Made my own partials and, well the fandom was very understanding back then. I got better, at least where it was not embarrassing. Is my current head next to this post. Bad design flaw though as I went from toony to too serious. Sorry, I digress. Some divisions have kinda put lots of emphasis on flagging furs for numerous reasons real and imagined in the past few years. It was less judgemental for my first decade. That said, finding myself in the fandom helped me rebuild myself into a more adventurous soul. Used to role play a lot back in the furry to furry days. Best thing had to be dancing. I seldom danced in the real world...to self conscious, but loved the raves. Got pulled on stage with a bunch of furs at my last con. Furry Fiesta...early two thousands I think. Only regret is that was a Friday night rave and while lots of filming was going on but never found a vid with us on stage. Het, I still right and visit SL on occasion, but don't see another con in my future. VR someday I hope. OK, that is what happens when the ancient furs start talking! :)

Things I wish I could tell my younger furry self: your parents/friends/coworkers will be interested, supportive and nonjudgmental. Do not isolate yourself from the fandom because you think it'll hurt your career prospects.
I've been a furry since 2005 but there was a dead zone between 2011 and mid2023 when I kept myself out of the furry social sphere.
Mid2023 until now has been a massive improvement. Weekly furry in-person meetups, furry VRChat, Furality 2024, CanFURence 2024, a growing circle of furries I can call friends
Very cool video idea! I can relate to that last point, as I'm still super bad at initiating conversations. 'xD Trying to get better, though!
If I could go back and change something when joining the fandom, it would be how shy I was about mentioning it to others around me. I was so scared of what my family and friends would think due to the negative stereotypes, and that honestly was what kept me from branching out more into the fandom. I've opened up so much more now and it's been wonderful! :D Great video Caff! ^^
7:04 on the bright side, if you had joined younger and also were drinking alcohol younger, you would be a lot unhealtheir now, but I can still agree with that sentiment, even though I know of a few furries that have died (I didn't know them personally) and that kinda makes me a little sad.

I'm the same way, wishing I'd joined the furry fandom earlier in life. I didn't officially "join" the fandom until I went to my first furry con in 2008, when I was 32, nearly 33, because for the longest time I didn't consider myself to be a furry due to some misconceptions about what it meant to be a furry. When I got to that first convention I was like, "These are my PEEEEOPLLLLE!" Of course, being terribly asocial and withdrawn hasn't helped me stay very active or make friends, especially since my best friend lost interest and didn't want to go any more. But if I'd started earlier maybe things would have turned out different.

I was interested in the fandom for about 8 years now but i only really became a furry like 3 months ago because i didn't want anyone to think I'm weird. So yeah that was kind of a waste of years because i realized that i don't really care about people thinking I'm weird and most people don't really care anyway.
Years ago, I got invited to have dinner with a pair of new friends and we went to a nice restaurant. The moment we sat down, they were glued to their phones the entire night. Wouldn't converse or do anything but focus on it the entire time. It was incredibly rude and frustrating. Ya'll invited me to join you, and now you only care about your online conversations?!?!

Just go in with an open mind- that’s prolly the biggest piece of advice I can give. Prior to joining, I lived a very cut-and-dry existence, and joining the fandom opened me up to many new people, ideas, and backgrounds that I never would have met otherwise
I've barely been here over a year. I am not sure if I regret having joined being 19 years old... What do you think? Having started before could have been dangerous?

Results on this grand exploration of one's self will vary, after all. Back in 2007... the fandom was still a lot more Wild West. Hollyweird was just catching on. Cons were still small stuff. I use a show from NBC as a sort of road marker called Father of the Pride. A very furry show about lions in Las Vegas from 2004. Back then, a con with fifty attendees was decently sized. House parties were (at least the ones I attended) a bit cramp, but friendly. And definitely dry. Pizza and soda. No beer. And the friendships have lasted a lifetime. Also, the fursuiting was a bit more personal and amateurish. I had Comet (the first) commissioned for several hundred dollars, parts and labor. Now, it's more like what big name suit maker can you commission from and how many down payments are needed.
It was also a bit harder to figure out what furry even was, back then. A lot of information simply wasn't there in those days. I do remember making an adventure of it, just trying to follow up on any tidbits. And it usually came up empty. These days, any simple search will greatly help. However, fate definitely found ways. I mean, imagine never hearing of Furry. Yet commissioning the very first suit in some pop up seasonal shop (with a seamstress back room) across the street from a drive thru fast food joint? That's like rolling a thousand dice and getting them all to show the same digit at once kind of odds. Now, a phone can search for fursuit makers.
Telling all your friends... that can be a tough one, can't it? Reactions will definitely be wide range. I didn't lose any close friends. Probably because I consciously partitioned them away from my exploration of myself during the time. Though the Christmas card was a bit sus. So, I think they found out, anyhow. Alienated a distant friend during my early years. That's one regret. What I gained definitely outweighed the losses.
Oh... _The Mission._ Completely understand that impulse. I was more of the 'Show. Don't tell' nature on that. I understand that there was this one guy who had just lost his job. Then his house. And practically everything else. But videos of my suiting had guided him into the fandom. Where he gained friends and found salvation in his most desperate of hours. Oh, and 'First Furry on Prisoner of Wal-Mart'. Guess that's something.
Number one thing is to have fun with it. It's the total randomness that can be fun about walking on the weird side. After all, I once suited at a vacant beach, just to watch the sun set. ...and a party broke out. Literal double decker busses pulled up and unloaded at least a hundred 16-17 year olds on some sort of fantasy rock and roll tour... thing. It was the most bizarre reaction to a bizarre beginning. And if I had just been my ordinary self over spontaneously random, I would have missed out on something that never happens in life. (BTW: I left that scene before the sun set. There was a... vibe... that felt very wrong about it all. Somebody touched the tail and I politely bailed. After all, suiting in public without handlers. Not the wisest thing to do.)

I had a grand ol time in mlp at like 14 watching porn on derpibooru, then slowly moved to e621 from there, stopping using derpibooru daily by 17, cuz they got cool fetish porn i liked. esp the comics. I also enjoyed erp alot in a furry server.
However ever since i discovered social media that is "made by furries, for furries" its been absolute fucking cancer. Literal stereotypical woke pronouns twitter users, and then they ruined all my fucking porn with their drama, real or imagined. Would not recomend.
