Through my music journey I've learned that I love all genres of music. But jazz! I absolutely fell for, then Japanese City Pop came along and damn I'm in heaven. Actually Japanese rock bands are my favorite too, I think the Japanese really capture the essence of whatever they do! Jazz(jazzy pop) or Rock, Ryo Fukui is among my all time favorites, Mariya Takeuchi, damn Nujabes. Crazy, also please don't mind the blurb😂 keep it up! Your content had been helping me reignite that passion I used to have for music and the guitar

Hello from Athens Greece Tomo sensei, hoping all is well! I just 'discovered' you a short while ago while researching for good teachers, and of course started Guitar Wisdom a couple of days ago, and already seeing the quality of your teaching (and I'll stop here so that others don't think this is a sales pitch or something, lol). Like others have commented here and in other videos, please keep these videos coming, they're very refreshing in between trying to learn/hear our triads-intervals-rhythm etc. Anyway, thank you for making these available, cheers from Athens, and stay safe!
So great to hear that! You're welcome! Thanks so much for subscribing my Guitar Wisdom! So fantastic to hear the results! Tomo's pedigree in the industry is undeniable and legendary. I think his talent is much much greater than his ability to express and convey his message in English. His teaching style is something I find will take me a long time to adjust to because I am a visual and a verbal learner. Everyone has a different learning style. But it is a privilege to be able to see Tomo play.
Thanks so much for your kind words! I really appreciate it! Yes, every person has own personality, own pace! I totally respect that. You can adjust more the way you can understand. My Guitar Wisdom can help you to understand guitar playing deeply.
Tomo Sensei, around 8 minutes into the video you start adding in bebop lines. I hear a lot of Charlie Parker there. Would you say listening to his solos would help developing the ear for that style?
So nice to hear that! Thanks so much! I teach much more detail video lessons and super easy theory lessons! at my Guitar Wisdom! Please check my new interview by Zack Gibs & my free advice!! tomojustfunky.com/tomo-fujita-guitar-practice-advice/
that made me recall doing jazz solo transcriptions. A lot of work. I always wondered, how can you pull off a solo like that in live performance scenario. All I can think of when playing in front of the audience is "where is that pentatonic box again?" or "what key we're in guys?" ... Lots of respect for your playing, and great stuff, although the amount of practice you probably put into it already hurts my fingers!
So nice to hear that! Latey I made a videos too long! No-one has that much attention so I try to make it a bit more simple less information with slow pace, details yet not too long! The version I play uses a Em9 chord rather than Em7, I think using the Em7 creates a dissonance because the flat 3rd is a semitone above the melody which starts on an F# - also I've always played F#m, F9, Em, Eb9, Dmaj7 on the descending sequence. Love your videos BTW - I'm slowing to half speed and stealing the good bits ;) (Written by Jose Feliciano as I'm sure you know, I think some think George Benson wrote it - personally came to it through Al Gafa on his album :Leblon Beach)
That's cool too. I made simple so that all my students can play "chord changes" making sure hitting b3 of that chords (for effective way, practicing the material) That's all cool too! I teach the original & I teach the original of original which is much simpler version so that you will have more choices when you play someone who plays slightly different ways than you normally play. That's all. Music ... even wrong notes. All good!!

First heard this song sampled on Nujabes “Counting Stars,” amazing to hear the original.
That is not the original, The original was composed by José Feliciano, George Benson recorded it later as a Jazz interpretation.
@@juangutierrez8731 yes, and even the sample on nujabes "counting stars" is the Feliciano version
Ah that makes sense! When I heard this song it reminded me of samurai champloo
I cannot play a lick of guitar, I am just now hearing your playing and your break downs.. Awesome video..

Good chord!
He is tuned down if you’re trying to play along with him
Playing in Bm worked just fine for me.
Absolutely not, at 2:48 he's talking about Bm7 and Em7 and he is right over the standard tuning and I jammed with this in Bm.
3:30 key of Bm.
