Fifty percent of me listening to this is me rehearsing, the other part is me listening to it simply because of the sheer beauty of this piece. I cannot believe how well-made this is.
My wife and I are American choral music teachers in Italia and are beginning week 10 in lockdown. What a liberation of the soul to sing 'Together... Softly' from around the world. My choirs and I have struggled mightily to sing as an ensemble - even virtually, which I've come to realize is much more difficult than it seems - since February 28th. How it tears at the soul to not be together with them creating nourishment like this for the soul. My wife and I looking forward to being 'fed' as well... Andrá tutto bene amici, mio!
Hi, Pablo! I'm so glad you're joining us! Virtual Choir 4, Fly to Paradise was my first Virtual Choir. I was so nervous as well as excited. :) Such a wonderful experience--I am so glad and grateful that Eric and his team are doing another Virtual Choir at this time as a gift to the world, and that we get to participate! Take good care. :)
Time stamps if anyone has use for what I'm using: 0:08 Intro 0:34 m. 11 "May our voice..." 1:00 Pickup to m. 19 "Aloft" 1:08 m. 21 "Sing" 1:26 Pickup to m. 27 "As one" 1:47 Pickup to m. 35 "Be strong" 2:14 m. 45 "Sing" 2:42 Pickup to m. 53 "As one"
I can barely wait to do it all over again! Amazing song! We are all one. We should respect and love each other regardless of anything. Thank you, Eric, for bringing us together once more in this magnificent way.
I'm so excited to do another one! I've sent the link to the choir I normally sing with and also some family members. Eric, have you noticed how many are now picking up on the virtual choir idea? You were ahead of your time! :-)
This music caught me off guard. SING GENTLY made my body and spirit GENTLY SING. On a very difficult night health-wise, this magical sound was a gift. Healing in ways I cannot put into words. Should you ever add a flute to this piece, I want to be your flutist... maybe to give someone else the emotional release the music gave me. THANK YOU FOR SUCH AMAZING BEAUTY!
Gorgeous and so lovely, what angelic voices and I'm looking forward to the collective performance! Also, I dearly treasure the opportunity that you're providing for others to continue participating in choir
I saw your TED Talk and was blown away. I have a dream of singing with the world in harmonies, all together. And your work embodies that, and inspires me. I am a singer who also writes songs and music. I love creating in the moment. And I am a woman with a beard and a vlog where i show it and talk about self confidence, weird, and love. Again, thank you for your work! and may we harmonize together soon. :D
I so look forward to another virtual choir with Eric. This will be my 5th and I've loved every one. This one is so beautiful in music and message. Can't wait to hear and see the finished product
Ok how do I do my recording without tearing up !😢Have to be strong. Loving it so much - such emotion to share with each other and our audience! For our beautiful daughter husband and granddaughters in Chicago! Sincerely Glenise Berry , Sunny Brisbane Australia 🇦🇺
Seriously considering this. Trying to get back into singing, not too hard of a piece. I'm sort of in an awkward place vocally, out of practice, those tenor notes are a bit of a stretch. :/
Hi, Brian--I hope you decide to join us; I'm not an accomplished singer or musician (glee club in high school, some piano lessons), and I've been in a couple of Virtual Choirs and have found them really rewarding. Also, as Jeanne mentioned, you can sing whatever range you feel comfortable with. I don't know if you noticed the RUclips video Eric posted of tips about how to approach the song. That's posted here; I found it helpful, too. Take care, and good luck! :)
I feel like the voice parts don't all line up with Eric's conducting at the end for the rit in the last 3 bars of the piece.... It's really throwing me off trying to rehearse. Did anyone else notice this?
I applaud your mission, and long may it continue. But I hardly think we need to be told to sing soft more. Sincerely- A singer who nearly had his voice ruined by being told to 'blend'.

I totally agree! The genius of this piece is that it's so simple and gentle, but also very deep and powerful and beautiful.
Eric Whitacre is a musical genius. I love his choral music...
The song that evokes togetherness. The only way we can get to the future, is together.
For sure.
I think this must be what God hears when we all pray together. All voices from all over the world. Truly a hymn and a prayer.
very insightful.
Song for this troubling era we are in now, made me feel alot better , thank you participants and conductor and all the artists who put it together.

You had me at the downbeat.
Came here after hearing his interview on BBC yesterday.
Done! I made sure to use my good microphone, the one with which I record my original works.
Please tell me sir how to conduct a choir in 6th pulse measurement
Is there an unmarked fermata in the bass line in the last measure?
Pretty
I feel like the voice parts don't all line up with Eric's conducting at the end for the rit in the last 3 bars of the piece.... It's really throwing me off trying to rehearse. Did anyone else notice this?

My brother is practising the scores for this...

get yourself a man that looks at you the way Eric Whitacre does while conducting you
haha, exactly
lol at his releases..
Why are we staring at a conductor?
Fun fact: apparently he’s a furry
I applaud your mission, and long may it continue.
But I hardly think we need to be told to sing soft more.
Sincerely-
A singer who nearly had his voice ruined by being told to 'blend'.
