The ever present "while you're down there" never fails to make me smile. Shine on you crazy diamond.
I'm not going to lie, the robot vacuum hack is pretty fricking hilarious. Imagine your robot vacuum going around the house, doing it's normal thing, and it comes into an occupied room then starts telling people, "Hey, fat f*ck. Get the f*ck out of the way so I can clean up after you pathetic slobs."
As a pathetic slob, I would be obliged to do as instructed.
@@cerealport2726, I'd be right there with you. 🤣
I would laugh extremely hard if that happened. My 15 yr old Roomba is not connected though so no chance of that happening.
That's what my wife already does.
I'm afraid to say I think this little hobby of ours is dying. People are simply being priced out of the market. You used to be able to build a killer rig for £1500. These days we are talking £4000.
Back to how it was in the 90's, very expensive. That said the community was better back then 😉
ahh, you scare me with that pricing. I'm moving from France to the UK in a few weeks, for work. I thought french prices were crazy....
Not entirely correct. More precise to say that our expectations of performance has been put into question. repeatedly. and we're starting to believe the gas lighting around what we used to get for what value ...
Time tonlook up for another hobby or get a console...unsustainable pricing on anything pc
You still can with precaution and DD on the used market, but I do agree with you.
GPU launches seem to be happening even later now.
Discounts happen after the generation is basically over.
Enthusiasm for new products is dead and replaced with hate and apathy.
Products are more expensive and you get less for your money.
But don’t worry.
Everyone’s profits are up. Number go up forever.
Working as intended.
Proper Discounts don’t exist anymore.
I feel like even discounts, when they do happen are barely even noticeable/worth it anymore, at least where i live.
Still plenty of great discounts to be had. Who cares if it's near the end of the gen. I got a 7950x3d for 490 euro last month. The next gen AMD and intel parts will only be slightly faster while costing a lot more
Yes that's all true, but AI is going to save us all and make NVIDIA vast amounts of money into the bargain. Please note: This previous statement may contain sarcasm and traces of fake enthusiasm)
God only knows why anyone in their right mind would want an Internet-connected vacuum...
I have a used Wyze robot vacuum. I need my studio cleaned like once a week; and it's pretty handy to have it start wizzing about the place after I leave work. If it weren't internet connected- I'd likely forgot about starting up the vacuum when I left home, and be unwilling to have it go about the place once I'm back after a day at the office.
so when you pickup that special lady form the bar and need to run a quick vacuum from your phone, your house is still trashed but at least the floors will be clean...lol
They want their playlists and notifications to play from the vacuum's RGB speakers.
They don't give you a choice unfortunately. You want the robot, it needs the internet. You can take some security measures like isolating it to its own VLAN (or a guest network if you can't do that), and also not buying a model with a camera or bluetooth.
And as someone with a lot of floor space and four cats, the robot vacuum is one of the best appliances I have ever purchased and I am not going to give it up lightly.
Your Roomba scans your room, so it can set the optimal route, uploads the size and blueprint of your house/appartment and by that it can be calculated how wealthy you are and they put you into an income category. Just another data point to sell to the targeted advertising machine.
...and of course another microphone/camera in your house that the CIA can tap into at will, in addition to your phone, your TV, your Alexa... which you of course know about, so why care if the roomba does it to, you already willingly gave up on your privacy and security anyway.
Now go get that Tesla that sends your insurance company meta data about your reckless driving skills so they up your rates accordingly.
Awesomesauce video Paul and Joe! Enjoy some time off before this Q4 24 nonsense ramps up to full speed.
As for dwindling stock, I am sure glad I picked up a 5700X3D this last week on sale.
Joe, I was really hoping for my logo to sneak into the edits. 😅
Caffeinator out.
08:18 oh dear. I have precisely zero things needing a Type C on my PC but 9 things requiring Type A. (Mouse, Keyboard, Streamdeck, TrackIR, controller dongle, headphones dongle, and 3 external HDD storage drives.
And as you replace them over time, their replacements will all come with USB-C connectors.
I have recently purchased several USB A to C adapters...
@@Zedilt THIS! Over the past year or two I've been consistently running out of type C slots as things on and around my desk get upgraded or swapped
My headset, Kindle, and iPhone all charge with USB-C, and I only have 1 (working) port on my computer. It’s a good thing I don’t need to charge them often.
@@leftcoastfunk The transition away from USB A to USB C for everything has taken way too dang long. USB A is a terrible connector and should have been phased out a long time ago.
For the Ryzen 9800X3D, you forgot to mention that there is an Event in China where they said they will announce it during the 23rd and 24th, they began to send invitations already
23rd of what?
I feel like Steve should have made an 'announcing the announcement' joke already.

The 9800x3d / 5090 combo is gunna be crazy
Yeah but still, pairing an 8 core chip with a 5090 is kinda crazy. But surely it will be the fastest CPU ever created
crazy expensive!
@@Ladioz Games don't need more than 8 cores and when you think about it, Ryzen with more than 8 uses dual ccd with latency issues or split 3d cache like 7950X3D that lowers gaming perf. Intel has 8 p-cores and rest are e-cores. So yeah, 8 p-cores is plenty for a top tier gaming rig.
@@cerealport2726With all the inflation we've had it'll be a choice between heating, eating or building a 9800x3d/5090 rig
The 7800X3D / 5090 combo is gonna be crazy.
The 9800X3D is going to be another nothing burger CPU that just costs too much because it's "new". Zen 5% is such a failure for gaming.
8:50 Best advertisement ever, so good that the only way for them to prevent ublock from blocking ads was to remove it.
I don't know how to feel about Intel. I appreciate the massive improvements to power efficiency and support having a competitor, but AMD keeps mobo support for 5+ years. My can take my AM4 motherboard has been with me from 2017 onwards and I could slot in the 5800X3D in 2022. With Intel, I only get 2 cycles IIRC, which usually means a new motherboard, cooler, and memory.
Similar thing w/ Nvidia- I really dislike the focus at just cramming more power into the cards, requiring bigger cases and power supplies, and at obscene prices while keeping memory (another leak suggested the 5080 will only have 12gb of memory iirc) only meaningful on the extreme top end. At this point, I'll just sit on my used 3090 I got for $600 until Intel becomes competitive in the GPU space.
I know it comes across as being down, but really- it's just a matter of waiting. I have a pretty nice setup atm, and I'm in an extremely privlidged position to be dissapointed in that there's nothing for me to upgrade to that I'd be happy with; while still being left with a baller enough setup that can play most games maxed out at 4K. I'm grateful to be alive at a time in history wherein my biggest complaint is not having anything to upgrade to because what I have is already so darn nice.
In my personal experience, Intel boards are backwards compatible to the CPU that released the last year, i've never had a Intel board myself that would accept next years CPU ...if that internet myth is real, i haven't EVER seen it myself in action.
And even if so, 1 generation newer CPU is hardly worth the money for the 5% IPC upgrade. I wouldn't do that anyway.
I'm on 7800X3D now, finally on AMD, AM5, DDR5... the i7 7700K did it's job.
I guess i skip the 9800X3D anyway and wait for the next one after that or rather wait for whatever is the best before my AM5 board is EOL to get maximum mileage out of it.
...right now for me it is more important to get my hands on a nice 4K Screen and get a GPU that can handle 4K at high FPS instead of replacing the 7800X3D with a maybe 5% faster chip.
1:41 brilliant Paul
Came out of nowhere, that one.
@@lupo8282 I loved it
Can't wait for the 50 series! Exorbitant pricing, skimped on vram, and possible house fires. Yippee.
9:45 Oh a True Romance reference. Hopper and Walken were great in that scene.
Really hope intel and amd don't go down the 12vhpv2 route
400W for the 5080, maybe it really is AMD for me this time.
AMD not even making a high end card 🤣
@@clockworklegionaire2135 What's your point? They don't want a power vacuum.
Which isn't bad if it's 10% faster than a 4090 if the rumors are correct.
cof cof VEGA
@@lightechoesthe point is amd can’t compete. There is only one choice
yeah i wish all the IOT features of a robot vacuum could also be handled offline locally from the base station
If you use 12V-2x6 just like you would use 2 old 8pin connectors ("12V-2x3" each) - 300W total, it would have pretty much the same reliability.
The issue is with old 8pin connector being used at half its rated pin maximum while the new one is pushed all the way up to the limit. Connector as such is fine.
Since AMD has publicly announced they’re not competing at the Ultra high end. It wouldn’t surprise me if 5090 and 5090 Ti will both exist
So their solution is not to make better technology, it's to just pump more power into it to increase it's frequency just like the 4000 series.
I guess we are going to have to obtain our own independent power grid soon here in the US if we want to power the 5000 series and beyond without causing a city wide brown out.
Another Sunday morning with Paul's News and a coffee :)
Secret: You can buy a previous gen GPU and happy a happy and fulfilling gaming experience.
Not going to lie, I laughed out loud at the mom joke. Just amazing! Yes, I’m a giant child.
One thing we do know about the 5090 isn’t that you are going to need a 2nd mortgage on your house to be able to afford one
5070 with 12GB gonna be a fucking joke.
RE4 Remake with RT on uses like 12GB in 1440p - and that game actually released like a month before the 4070 launched lol. Now the 5070 that will launch in Q1 2025 will again only have 12GB? And most people use their cards for 4 to 6 years cause they skip at least one, probably two gens of cards. So that means those 12GB would have to last until ~2029 to 2031 which is a joke lol. Everyone who buys this card while knowing a thing or two about hardware is not just a clown but the whole damn circus. And yes, NVIDIA will probably release an 18GB Version later on but that card will cost like $800. 🤡
I keep looking at how great the new cards are going to be and how much my wallet will hate me. But then I remember, there's no new games coming out that demand the performance, my wallet may breathe easily.
I'm going to keep my eyes peeled next week. It seems like every time you guys go to take a break, something crazy happens.
Case wires catching on fire, the GPU power cable melting, Intel CPUs frying themselves. 😂
"Buy my merch! Also I'm taking off for 2 weeks, but give me your money anyway"
I love how tom is always gone when new hardware is announced or released 😂
After I watch Branch Education video on how GPU works. Now I know why the vary in GPU models. It is because the GPU has a small defect during manufacturing and instead of throwing it out, they use it but less performance.
if 9800x3d was coming you'd already have samples
AMD drying up AM4 to boost their horrible 9000 series numbers
Those 6x2 connnectors can be fine if the resulting connector gets a bit beefier and is easier to connect
I hope to see a new Intel GPU launch before I buy my new system. My use-case involves lots of VRAM and currently Intel offers the most affordable deal in that regard
I think I am already at the point of only needing USB-C ports. Even if I do need a legacy A port, I can always use an adapter. But literally everything I use these days is USB-C. Heck even our vehicle has USB-C charging and connectivity ports...
Amd could be giving Intel space now that they formed an alliance against arm.
The "your mom" joke caught me so offguard that i couldnt focus on the rest of the tech news
every two years i come back for gpu news .d
So, when do Intel and AMD go back to making their CPUs pin compatible?
I remember when you bought a motherboard and then chose either an AMD cpu, an Intel CPU or a Cyrix CPU........
i had a Cyrix for a while.... and a 14.4k fax/modem. those were the days...
That will never happen again. I still have a socket 7 board that will take AMD/CYRIX/INTEL it's currently running msdos 6.22 with a Cyrix 686 233Mhz chip. I'm just smashing through duke3d on an S3Virge while I wait for the next Doom game release in 2025
feeling up to date. cheers paul
'Member when we'd, you know, get excited for new hardware launching, instead of concerned?
Except for the hostile robot vacuum, though. I bet it'd be like living with mom all over again.
It's year 2030 technology advanced so rapidly that we no longer need more 12GB of ram.- Nvidia™
I wonder if it would be worth going with the 9800x3d and 5080 over the 7800x3d and a 4080 super. I am getting ready to build my next PC. I am just waiting for benchmarks to make the best choice.
I somehow thought you said "pedally timed interference" or maybe "peddlely timed"
Here they come flying in like Expensive Magical Useless TURDS 🤣🤣🤣.
Someone needs to make a game that, apart from Cyberpunk ultra 4k RT, is getting close to needing or being worth spending this kind of money on. And even that's a stretch.
Kinda random; but I'd love to see a laptop video trying to compare a similar laptop w/ Lunar Lake vs. the previous gen Intel chip, comparing battery life and the like (assuming they're that much better in terms of battery life); with commentary on ARM laptops.
I would rather let my Roborock off me , than go back to vacuuming.🙃
Paul, I'm on AM5, a R7 7700 and enjoying it serves me at the moment well. In the future if PCIe 5 for high end GPUs become 'needed', would it be crazy to upgrade, my motherboard, and keep everything else, if I were planning on upgrading my GPU / wanting to just upgrade the GPU but get the full performance of it?
lol he hearts the post but doesn't answer it 🤣
Even for next gen, I doubt PCIE 5.0 will be needed, strictly speaking. It's more of a bandwidth boost than anything and GPUs typically don't saturate the bus with gaming workloads. In the past, when PCIE 4 cards came out, they could still run just fine on a PCIE 3 slot. Still I'd wait for the cards to launch and those tests to be run, and there are weird edge cases like the RX 6500 that only has a PCIE 4.0 x4 connection, so if you run it on a PCIE 3 slot (at x4) it really hurts performance. Anyway I rambled a bit but I hope this helps 😁

how low is the 5060 going to go when the "5080" is already half the cores of a 5090. My bet is it's going to be the new GT 1030
5060 with 3GB of DDR4, for the low, low price of $2,500 I bet.
Yes the '80' class is half the cores of the flagship. hmmm are we sure thats an 80 class? sounds like a 60 class or 70 class at best to me. IMO its the 5060ti silicon and no amount of missprints on the box and overpricing is changing my mind.
Does anyone has an estimated guess for pricing for 5070/5060 ti? And if there will be 16 gb vram versions of those?
Usually i spent about 400 every 5 years or so on a graphic cards. Wondering if i should spent more now. Economy has changed.
I regret buying a 3060 ti 8gb. Worrying about vram is so annoying... I wanna keep my next card for 5 years minimium. so i want 16 vram, to be sure its will be enough.

Hope 5070 Ti will have 16gb or 18gb, if not then shame on Nvidia, 12 gb is embarrassment
It's the huge current numbers required for 12 volt to transmit so many hundreds of watts that's melting connectors. The PSU standard is what has to evolve, to a 24 or even 48 volt option. Every doubling of voltage halves the current.
Samsung announcing those chips means, this is their top of the line memory chip available sometime in the future so companies not in the loop can start designing things around those chips. even slower 3GB chips are not available at quantities Nvidia needs at the launch of 50 series. So in best case this is for Super refresh. And average frequency is definitely going to be way lower than highly binned sample Samsung announced. And memory controllers do also limit the frequency, thus we have absolute no idea what frequency Nvidia will use. Oh. And because Micron is going to 36Gps in 26, that would make sense for cost sensitive high volume products, that will come in 26. In 25 best micron roadmaps show is 24Gb(3GB) chips at 32Gps. So the reasonable thing to assume that in 25 we could get cards with two different capacities of exactly same cards other vice. And later have the refresh, with higher frequency modules that only come with higher capacity.

My advice remains the same, everyone get Firefox! I install this on every users PC and even go as far as giving it a theme, and explain fastest & safest browser.. Keep the good videos!
I started using Chrome because Firefox started to suck.
(they kept updating way faster than before, and they broke plugins and skins all the time, kept changing where the bookmark and tab bars were and made it more ugly in the process ...granted, that must have been 10 to 20 years ago)
Just ONCE in my life i would like to swap to a new browser because it is just better and more innovative and customizable than the current stuff, not because the current one that i like and am comfy with starts doing something shady that sucks the usability out of it.
And swapping browsers is so much more TEDIOUS by now... back in the day i had one PC with one Browser to care about, now i got phones and tablets, Steam Deck, multiple PCs, everything needs to be able to sync bookmarks and plugins over different operating system and be cloud connected... just ugh.
This sounds like work. I don't want to...
Can't one of these uBlock type groups just put their heads together and instead of doing just a plugin THEY make the entire browser?

For the first time in a long time I feel ZERO reason to upgrade my gpu, 4090. There are no games out that need anything higher. Boss Rush: Wukong can be tweaked enough to run perfectly on a 4090 which is arguably the highest demanding game. RayTracing is mostly garbage from every game I've tested and I usually end up turning it off. Sim players & Content Creators are probably the target audience for the 5090. 5080 seems like it's going to be the go to for most gamers who never picked up the 4090. It's looking like we've hit a serious plateau for PC hardware. It's nice to save some money for once.
I love the 7800X3D scalping because eventually people will lose interest in that type of vertical cache and just enjoy regular CPUs or Intel's 3D cache. then after 3 years you'll be able to pick up a 7800X3D for $70 because they'll be in abundance
