Nailed my 1st loops today! I still fly almost exclusively in SAFE, on my 1st plane still. Its a UMX TimberX. It's at least double weight with Foam2Foam and HD packing tape. But dang, i love flying her. She flies great with 800mAh 3s and flaperons. UMX line and 1000's of hours of BPRC videos= the BEST way to become an RC pilot. Oh, and SAFE helps, too 👍
Thanks Brian and Megan!!!
Congratulations Al - Soon you'll be flying inverted all the time!!!!!
I spent way too much time on safe. I started clicking out of safe for stunts and back in on exit of the stunt. As I gained confidence I would do a loop then roll on exit and safe to recover. After that I started doing chains of stunt combos and trying to push the safe recovery as far as I could. After that I started learning coordinated turns out of safe. When I got that figured out I started doing a low pass into vertical climb and rotation then pull back on the stick until I head back to the ground pulling up again to go back through the low pass and mirror it on the other side. It helps to use the same plane for it. Now I can switch in and out of safe and my fingers just know what to do. I love that safe for regaining control after loss of orientation, when I get dizzy and have to look at the ground for several seconds and on takeoff and landing in windy conditions.
"We are hungry people...Just look at me once..."
You crack me up! Super enjoy watching the videos and the in depth unboxing every time. It makes purchases so much easier!!! Appreciate you guys!
thanks Nathan ;)
You have GOT to get a tiny RC farmer to plant some tiny crops, and then spray them!
Ordered one of these today since Horizon is running them on sale for $129. Definitely a great choice! Cool video Brian. ✈️ 👍🏻
Just maddened mine while watching my son practice. This is the best UMX I have flown. Its on rails at high speed and crawling speed. Amazing! Thanks Brian for your videos!
We need a UMX Draco.
Agree. They need more heli though. I hope they add a uh1 huey umx
Bring back the B-17 too!!
Genius!
Right, an over weight underpowered over priced umx that flys like shit?
Awesome idea 🤣😅😂
Draco umx $299
I would love to see one!
Thank You for all you do to help those of us new to the hobby. Best RC plane videos on RUclips!
Thank you, and really appreciate your support!
That Air Tractor was literally my dream😮
Just got one of these. I appreciate the radio setup stuff, thanks!
Hey guys, I've got to come up with new saying other than "another great video" but until then.... Great Video! Mine came today and one of the first things I noted was that FINALY this UMX AIR TRACTOR came with a long enough battery connector for my puggy fingers! This thing is a jewel! The color and finish are excellent! Another UMX hit!
I bought my son an apprentice stol for Christmas and found your RUclips channel.
Your enthusiasm and commentary are intoxicatingly great and turned this hobby into an obsession.
I have purchased the Sport Cub S2 and UMX Timber X last week.. and will likely pick up the Waco next.
Then I see this air tractor... LOL.
Keep up the great work Brian and Megan (cam crew).
Welcome to the hobby! We're so excited for you to jump in and know first hand how much fun it is to share this experience with family.
So great! Flies so smooth! #stayepic
Thanks Brian; Yet again, I see you fly something and I'm sold. You get me thinking, well I need this to be my introduction UMX plane with flaps to my other (still unboxed) UMX Turbo Timbre Evolution with slats and flaps
❤ MY FIRST SOLO FLIGHT MMM SMILE BIGGER THAN THE PLANE 😊 UMX SAVES LIFES 😊
AWESOME! Glad you're in the air! It's so much harder, and way more EXCITING than any onlooker could ever imagine!
Congrats Lawrence!
I have the big Air Tractor and love it. This UMX version looks like a lot of fun.
Sure is. The bigger one is a blast too, but I just can't get over how amazing these latest UMX planes fly. They are getting so dang good!!!
I'm impressed how you mange to miss all those obstacles!! Well flown, I'll be buying one soon.
Thanks! She is a good flier and you'll LOVE it when you get one for yourself! bprc.me/AirTractor
I think a UMX OV-10 would be lots of fun! But this is nice with lights, flaps, and the Brian Phillips squishy tires! 👍👏😀
Agreed..!! Ever since the release, and then flying my own UMX Twin Otter I’ve been hoping for a future release of an OV-10 Bronco using the same electronics from the UMX Ultrix and UMX Twin Otter with differential thrust and flying on the Spektrum 1S 800mah battery. HorizonHobby has said the next release after this UMX Air Tractor will be a twin engined plane, I’d happily take a UMX or bigger foamy at any size OV-10..!!
WOW that would be AMAZING!
And now, we have the dual motor platform from the Cessna Citation, F-14, Ultrix UMX, Twin Otter UMX, etc
@BrianPhillipsRC I’m sure you already know what the next plane release from HorizonHobby will be Brian..!! Lol
You two got me, hook, line, and sinker. I just put in a preorder. Slip them a hint for a UMX EC-1500!
Your patience will soon be rewarded, but can't say exactly how. Just make sure you're keeping an eye out ;)
I need one to spray my backyard garden.
YES you do!!!
Hey Brian
You just sold me on this no problem! Just from the excitement of your voice I might buy two great job again🤩
Awesome! Glad you enjoyed it. I know I sure did!!!
A neat feature of the Air Tractor is it doubles as a butt plug. The Mrs., her boyfriend, and I have been getting a lot of mileage out of it. Thanks for the great review, Brian!
Very interesting. We'll be sure to cover than in our second thoughts - LOL
Cool flight! very interesting video as usual, thank you!
Thanks!!!
Finally dodged enough beer trucks and ordered one of these today. Can't wait to fly a UMX that wasn't maidened directly into a cinderblock wall, as i drill bit rolled, full throttle, frantically fumbling with switches that i immediately forgot did what, the second it took off. "SAFE? I don't need SAFE..."
I needed SAFE. 👍
PS- of course, i ordered through BPRC 😊
LOL - Very nice - glad you were able to jump out of the way (presumably multiple times!!! LOL)
SAFE - it's a nice thing when you're new ;) Don't let anyone talk you out of it till YOU are ready. When you're ready, you'll know. It will happen without a lot of prodding - I promise...doesn't feel like it now, if you're anything like I was, but you'll get there. Keep at it!
Thank you for telling us to slightly lower servo travel so they don't bind. I have never heard of doing that but I HAVE seen guys complaining about their servos binding on their UMX planes.
Good job on explaining the plane, as usual, RC plane professor BP.
Thanks for watching, and glad it was helpful ;)
I went out and bought one at the local hobby shop. Waiting for a calm day to maiden her.
Very good sound effects 😁👍😁
Thanks ;)
I love this plane,i bought it from my lhs and it flies amazing. You dont even need safe to fly this thing at all. Its stupid easy to land, easier than the umx voodoo my coworker bought.
Voodoo is not a beginner's plane, as you guys have found out...
Brian i got to correct you, as my careerof 36 years, a airtractor is not a pawnee, 2 vomplete different planes, it be like calling a cessna 150 a F15. Completley different planes,,, other than that irritating mistake,, lol love your channel and keep up the great videos, just dont call it a pawnee again. Lol
Thanks!
Thank you David!!!!!! We really appreciate your support
Love this plane -sweet flying Brian. Love the fact that you mentioned the spraying of carcinogens! Great channels with lots of tech info.I’ve learnt a great deal from you! I would love your space to fly, and on your doorstep! I have a few UMX’s -pitts,waco, twin otter. But would love to see how this compliment these?
another one for my bucket list lol 👍👍
Ohhhh yeah!
I bought one this morning when I first saw it on sale!
Excellent!!!
@@BrianPhillipsRC So your video was not out and I didn’t get to “click the link below”. Is there anyway I can get you on my order still? If so I have two I need to get you on. You are the reason I am back in this hobby! And “camera crew”
@@BrianPhillipsRC I have 25600 points with horizon. 😂. Don’t tell the wife!
"dropping all sorts of carcinogens"🤣😂🤣😂 Love it. This is what makes your videos so great!
Thanks Derel - glad you enjoyed that ;)
thank you so much for your videos I own the

P51 1.5m
AWESOMENESS!!!! Thanks Ray

I use that "Jenky" foam cover/plane protector as my plane stand. Stood on its end it cradles my Umx TimberX up high and everything's easily accessible 👍 just fyi
Nice!
I bet HH will make UMX of all their larger planes. Just wait and they'll come.
I wish they would, but would also love Carbon Z (Large ones) of some too!!! ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC UMX Carbon Z would be cool :)
lol yep have crop dusting all around me. ,, no bugs in my pool , have had issues , more wind than pilot but i get it
I wish that I could fly that smoothly.
Hey Brian, always great watching your videos ... love em! Question, I'm using the same 300mah 3S Spektrum battery and on balancing the plane at 29mm CG (where you had it), I noticed that it tends to climb ... did you have to add some down elevator to get level flight?
Hey Brian, Thanks for all the help your videos have given me! As a new flyer your videos are invaluable. Quick question, do you have a RC Toolkit you suggest? Looking for plane assembly tools like screwdrivers and hex drivers etc. I've been looking through you links and haven't seen one. Seems like you mentioned on in a video once but I can't find it. Your videos have helped me out so much I try to buy my stuff from your links to help support your great content! Thanks!
NIIIICE 👌🏻
Wait what! Lol I literally just preordered my evolution. 🤯
This one is sure to please too, maybe get this one and that???
@@BrianPhillipsRC lol I’m trying not to 😂. Happy Friday to you 👍🏻
I do love watching your videos! And I want to buy some of that sky with the plane! But poor Denise can’t un-see the frog.
Great model, decent flying Long Video.
Im definitely getting one. I wonder if i could make a spraying rack for under the wings like the real one has...
1 blade on my UMX tractor prop has taken on an visibly noticeable and inward warp (bending toward the plane). Must've happened yesterday when I put it back in the box, Is there a foam deformation technique fix by hot water for 1 blade on a 3 blade prop?
What would you do? Fix or replace the prop?
Putting that plane in the hands of the beginner will last as long as high school love or 16 seconds of pure delight as you put it LOL😂
16 seconds of pure delight - LOL LOL LOL LOL
@@BrianPhillipsRC LOL I guess I should start typing on my phone instead of using hands-free
Hi, I enjoy watching your videos. I learned to fly with the AeroScout 1.1m. Now I also have Conscendo Evo. But I would also like to buy some smaller UMX aircraft that will be able to fly really slowly. Could you please advise me whether to choose Air Tractor or Turbo Timber Evolution? Thank you and good luck.🙃
I think camera crew doesn't talk enough on the videos, I feel like she could fill the video with important notes. The interaction between you guys is super aesthetic and makes people want to watch the videos. I'm 18 and when you guys play around and talk to each other, it makes me feel like: "wow, if my life looks like that in 10 years, I'm happy". That dynamic between you two could be your channel's "thing". For me it already is
". . . dropping all sorts of carcinogens . . . " 😄 . . . 4:47 you mention "strong retracts' but I think with this bird you meant "strong landing gear" . . . keep up the great work - I enjoy your videos even though I wonder if your enthusiasm is real 😄 (relax, that's not a negative comment - ha)
I'm easily excited ;)
hey nice video looks gr8, i wold like to ask i know its not related but maybe you know can this rc plan , or larger scale model of this place take a real spryer kit like 2 kg of extra load to make it spraying clear water? did some one try it? or somting simular? tnx :D
Brian, where can I get the battery adapter with the balance lead? Need one badly
Dooood. I just maidened my UMX Pitts and I am already looking at the tractor 😂 would you recommend this or the waco?
I think I remember something about those power lines being buried. Since I don't see them here, I'm assuming that has happened? OMG I'm so jealous!!!!!!
yep. It was a 7-8 month struggle and had to $24,263 to boot.
@@BrianPhillipsRC WORTH IT!!!!! LOL At least in your case considering what you do.
I can't believe you took off on the sidewalk like that 6 1/2 min in video
I'm interested with everything that these HH UMX's offer, besides reverse thrust, what features would you want?
100% (but I would like it too ;)
FYI ..The link for the air tractor is linked to the 1.5m and not the UMX. You can easily find it if you look under the ultra micro planes. BTW another excellent video, cudos to the camera crew.
Thanks Jeff! We are aware of this detail, and do it so people can follow just one unique link when there's a bunch of sizes available.
I wonder if it could handle a 550 mAh 4s . ??? I’ve got 5 of them ( CNHL ) packs. High c rating too.
Damn brian i wish they cane out with this plane when i was looking at umx planes in april i bought a unx pitts and wishing i bought this plane now lmao
The Pitts is sooooo good tho! This one looks fun too. I like the landing flaps = )
You will love this one too ;)
OK I got a question. I am definitely a beginner this is my first plane ever. I fly drones, but I got the FMS 1300mm PA 18 super cab. I’m ready to take it out and fly. Is this a good one to do that with or should I get something different? What’s your recommendation?
This plane is not especially difficult to fly, especially if you're using SAFE (Auto-Leveling with Stabilization), but even with AS3X (Stabilization only) .
If you want easier, you could get the Turbo Timber Evo UMX - bprc.me/Timber
But this plane, the Air Tractor ( bprc.me/AirTractor ) is very close in terms of difficulty level.
Hey Brian, looking into my first UMX and the air tractor is on the top of my list. What would be your opinion on using this as an indoor flyer, like a gymnasium etc. Thanks and keep up the great content.
Nate got it out by two minutes! I’m sorry but that’s a funny looking plane.
Hello, I have a general question: is it possible to set up Spektrum SAFE without a flight envelope on transmitters???
Do you mean, Flight Mode? You don't need the flight mode for the UMX plane, instead, I believe you can just use the channel...but with more sophisticated models, you might need them, specifically, the UMX F-14.
Love your videos. but it's flap to elevator *mixing*, and at 4:47, you say, "strong retracts" Looks like it flies very nicely though! Now need to set one up to tow our UMX Radians up. ;) 10:26 made me sing, "ba ba dah bah bah bah bah!" As usual, another great video you two.
It seems to me your a horizon hobby lover and supporter
Its just me,I'm still made at them because they won't replace a bad elevator servo in my V900.I had to,at my expense.
I have a little extra funds coming to me, which UMX would you prefer between the
Timber Turbo Evolution or the Air Tractor? I like them both, but I just wanted your opinion. Thanks H²
kind sir: the kind of content you create can never be replaced by ai. You know why? Well, think of all the thousands of soul-less creators on the intertubes that pump out drivel content, their content is indistinguishable from AI because both are soul-less. And that is the difference between you and AI. AI has no soul, but your content is your lived experience. It is fundamentally human. It cannot be machine learned, nor can it be replaced algorithmically with mathematical series of 1's and 0's. TLDR: your content is raw, authentic, fundamentally human. RUclips will try to replace you with ai generated content, but they will fail. Fly on! my man! Fly on And enjoy the joy from the experience that is the human experience of flying. Fly on my man!
Thanks again ;)
Hard to decide between the umx tractor or the umx turbo timber evo.
How about an "often-crashing" pilot?? 😂 Thanks for the great vid!
You're welcome ;)
Super 😄🇨🇭👍
sure is, thanks!
Between this and UMX turbo timber Evo, which suits the total beginner ?
The Apprentice STOL...
Picked one up at Hobby Town today, but I got to take it back. Plugged two different batteries in and nothing. Little disappointed, its a hour drive. Glad i didn't order online and have to go through the return mess.
What about P-47 I didn’t see it in your hangar?
Hi Brian, can you help us newbies by writing a manual that we could buy on how to set a transmitter to bind it to an airplane. It's got to be easy to read and easy to follow with step to step screens. Even if you had a white board with the steps on it so we can pause the video to write down the steps would help. In the nx8 manual they have system setup and model select on page 12,create a new model on page 16 and wing on page 39. Please help us!
Could I remove the reciever it comes with and put in a different one? Also would it be a good beginner plane?
Why would you want to?
Hey Brian, does this have a grind noise in the motor when first applying throttle? Mine seems to have an initial grind for a couple seconds when applying throttle.
There can be a glitchy-digital noise...but it should be really low... Not sure if I can say for certain... sorry!
@BrianPhillipsRC hmm I must have got a dud. It seems far worse than a glitch sound. Also, I noticed when taking off it really wants to drive nose down, not sure if you experienced that as well? Also, I love your videos! Keep it up!
Got the problem fixed, if the prop is removed it has that noise. Replaced prop adapter and prop and noise went away. I need basically full up elevator when taking off. Other than that it's a super cool plane.
ordered a turbo timber a couple weeks ago to replace one I crashed last fall I almost wish I had waited
No, you'll have another opportunity for this one too, it's only pre-order right now ;)
Is this one easier to fly than the umx voodoo micro or harder? Seems like it can fly in tighter spaces than the micro voodoo. Am I right?
This one is easier to fly than the Voodoo, but I'd suggest the Timber Evo UMX if you want the EASIER - bprc.me/Timber - BUT they're all (speaking of the UMX'es) pretty easy to fly.
Thanks, I can fly the ragerc p51d pretty well, bu the voodoo gets me nervous because its too fast and I almost lost orientation once. On safe mode its got a wide turning radius too, so was looking for a small scale sized model that can fly slower and in tighter spaces. The evo is not as good looking as this in my opinion so want to pick this up instead🙂
E flite needs to make one the size of the Cessna 150. With a real hopper and functioning spray booms. This way I can fill it with weed killer and dust my local flying field
YEEEEEESSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would love it too!!!
When i first watched this video i thought you were trying to really sell it but this thing is pretty damn awesome. 2 nose dives and some super glue later, still flys like new. To be dumb i put some umx turbo timber slats on it, maybe it will help with stole performance.
I did get this after flying the rage rc f4u for about 2 weeks. Might have been to quick but with enough space to fumble around and stop stressing its easy to fly. Pretty much beginner.
This plane is awesome! We've done far too many planes to get excited about mediocrity ;) LOL
Hey, loved this video! I recently bought this plane as a next step for my son after flying mini warbird planes. I picked up a used DX6i transmitter on eBay and was assured by the seller that it was compatible. However, after having issues with the rudder jamming to one side and twitching uncontrollably after binding, I called up a hobby shop to get some support. They told me that the DX6i was too old for this plane and that’s why the rudder was misbehaving. Can anybody confirm if this is true please? I’m really disappointed and frustrated, so any help/advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks, folks! 🙏🏻
We have links to the correct items almost every item we review. These links are in the video description.
bprc.me/AirTractor
bprc.me/3S_300
bprc.me/IC3_to_JST
bprc.me/NX10 ( OR you could also get another choice here bprc.me/Tx )
The DX6i might be okay. I believe your issue is the RUDDER SERVO.
First - try changing the range from +/- 100% to something like +/- 95%....these long throw linear servos sometimes get STUCK at their end of stroke and then can't return to neutral.
Second - If that still doesn't work you can watch this video (old but might help from a similar concern I had a long time ago with a J3 Cub UMX) - ruclips.net/video/kXOH8MCd36E/видео.html - this might be helpful enough to get you where you need to be. IF your servo is bad, you might be able to get Horizon Hobby to replace the plane.
...BUT I honestly don't know for sure if the DX6i will work. It might operate only on DSM and DSM2, while the newer UMX planes operate in DSMX, which is a newer transmission protocol. If the protocol is not the same it won't work, but it's been forever since I touched a DX6i.
Nice review . But a small correction ..
You said “ these Pawnee’s look awesome “ a Pawnee is a small duster built by Piper Aircraft in the 60-70’s with a recip engine . As you know , you are flying a model of a modern day turbine powered Air Tractor thats about twice the size of a Piper Pawnee . Just saying .
can extra props for this little umx be found anywhere?
Parts can be found at Horizon Hobby, Tower Hobbies, Amain Hobbies, ebay, Nitro Hobbies, Omni Models, Sheldon's Hobbies, Jenny's RC, Graves R/C, local hobby shops, Victoria's Secret, Hooter's Restaurants, Cheetah's Gentleman's Club, Denny's, In N Out Burger, Sheetz Markets, 7/11, Courtesy Chevrolet, Mossy Ford, Pacific Honda, University of San Diego, etc etc etc...it's not that hard dude...
hey Brian, good morning this is Ray would you happen to know how to change the icon of the airplane on the NX8 transmitter? Thank you for your time
YES, if you watch the RADIO SETUP I show how to do it....OR ARE YOU ASKING, how to change what's in the memory? If so, I've never played with it, but suspect it's a super clunky, but easy process. I need to look into this, and make some images for people who want to get them.
Thanks for the heads up.
System Setup > Aircraft Type, NEXT > Select Image > Standard Image , then pick and scroll out.
Good luck!
@BrianPhillipsRC Pawnee aircraft are used as forward spotting aircraft for fire suppression and coordination. They are on floats most of the time. The floats have a water scooping system that fills the in fuselage tank with water for hot spot water dumps. You think Pawnee pilots ar nuts cropdusting? Send them firefighting 😉🤣
Very cool!!!
Just a small nit to pick....this is not a Piper Pawnee replica, it's an Ag Tractor.....two different birds.
Wonder if an fpv cam would fit under the canopy?.....hmmm
Pre ordered today😊 whats the flight times on a 3s 300 30c? Thanks Brian 🤙
I thought I was getting something like 8-10 minutes, but I bet they'd suggest 5-6 minutes.
@@BrianPhillipsRC thanks man
I have the 1.5m it's my favorite plane.
Are you Jack Black's brother ?
😁
I'm sold Brian! Using your link now. There's 2 part number EFLU14650's. One is 299.99 and the other is 169.99. What is the difference besides the pre order on the 169.99 one? Sorry, but I'll never pay 300 for a UMX as much as I love all 13 that I have. LOL,,, but under 200 is the going price tag. Help me out here bud.......
You're seeing both sizes. They look really similar, but we link to all the sizes ;) The more expensive one is the bigger one.
@@BrianPhillipsRC Oh crap! LOL Didn't even notice. Thanks bud.
More umx plez
I agree!!!! (and they're coming!!!!!!!! ....shh, our secret)
Air tractor and Pawnee are two different companies two different airplanes I wish these were in stock and ready to send out instead of pre-order all the time by the time they get them in stock I won't want one LOL great video keep up the good work
Sounds like a really short attention span. Lol
I'm the same way. I've bought more planes on impulse than I've bought on backorder.
@thomasseeley8124 No not really they are missing sales. 90% is impulse buys. It's bad marketing. Horizon can't get product in stock anyway. Why give them my money and wait for six months for them to deliver. I fly giant scale rc mostly.
yeah, sorry, you're right - Piper Pawnee, vs Air Tractor AT-803 - my bad!!!
@BrianPhillipsRC hey brother not trying to bust your balls by any means I live down south where the thrush aircraft are built and the Maule stole . Ag planes are big business for South Georgia. Keep up the good work 👏
As hard as I can I do not understand why you don't just put a piece of velcro on each battery, that way the batteries can also be stored in a battery bag lined with velcro...., but each to his own, Love the plane
i just wish eflite would get away from the linear servos on the umx planes
yep, but they are so dang lite
That plane was made in China too , the difference is whoever made the Efite version probably makes a dime more a week 😎👍
It is cool as heck tho !
YESSSSS Exactly!!! ;)
Did you say Pawnee?
OOOPS
@BrianPhillipsRC You had me wondering if Air Tractor bought some Piper rights.
I can see that Brian is a an expert. But for a beginner this video is hard to follow. Way too fast between transitions and never enough time to see his screen. I paused and rewond the video several times which only caused me to have to sit through several advertisements.
I'm sorry we were moving too quick for you. It's tough, since we have to try to keep things moving for "regulars" but slow for newer pilots. If you find it helpful, you can click the gear icon and playback speed to 0.25 times speed, if you really want to slow things down without adding a bunch of annoying adds.
Thanks for understanding that we're trying out best here, and hope that you will be better able to follow along with this tip.
Sorry pal But that Tractor model big and small are but ugly planes lol . But nice review.
To all their own. I personally think it's sweet!
Eflite has moved away from the smaller single 1s models they are making them bigger and I want them smaller
Rage Rc War Birds is what you should look at.
Eflite just keeps disappointing it's customer base with these horrible and unimaginable releases. I showed this to over 20 guys at my field today and they all said pass, not interested.
Glad I don't fly with you guys steelrane
@Tom C aren't you a sweet little offended snowflake, did I hurt your sensitive feelings?
This is a new size class. Can't hardly claim THIS one as a "re-release". I love the bigger one, and this one too. I'd like to see some more CARBON Z planes, to be honest, but YES, I agree it would be cool to see some "new" stuff. It's coming, but you'll get to endure a bunch of re-releases as they get the old AR636 rx'es out and into the newer AR630/AR631/AR637/AR8263 etc... the BNF's that USED to be current are getting phased out and re-released with new electronics, and admittedly, there's been a few planes released in closer than hoped for timelines, but this is the nature of aftermath of the plandemic, and will be true for a few more years to come as the supply chain gets back up to full speed.
Anyway, hope you get a chance to see one fly in person. They're a blast to fly.
