    Thanks Adam, great video and great information on the UMX Air Tractor. I had the 1.5m Air Tractor and it was a well behaved gentle plane that I sold to a father and son for their first low wing and it was perfect. This looks to be a little sportier and a lot of fun.

    This is amazing, if I manage to purchase a plane this will be the one. Transmitters are a little pricy, I am used to the cheap ones of rc cars ^^

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  11 месяцев назад +2

      They can be expensive. One piece of advise - you know how when you got into cars a little TX went a long way, but then as you progressed and wanted more cars and more programming capability you ended up getting a better, more expensive TX? Same thing happens with planes if you get into it. Instead of buying two or three TX's to end up with the one you actually needed, get a good one right off the bat so you only have to buy that one. 8 channel minimum. Trust me. Bigger hit to the wallet now, but less in the long run than if you have to upgrade when you realize that simple 6 ch. you bought to save money isn't enough.

    Never been a fan of EPS beer-cooler foam planes and proprietary E-flite stuff is just too expensive for what you get (spectacularly so if you live outside the US!) but this reviewer certainly is a welcome change from the usual "Infomercial" RUclipsrs. Whether you are a fan of the product or not, you certainly get an informed view of its capabilities.
    For a really capable EPS Air Tractor Thomas Buchwald's DIY designs probably match this though. 😉😊

      Thanks man! The runway at this field and our new one is a Geo-Textile fabric. Our club president is a contractor, and brought in some heavy(ish) equipment to grade the land and remove the grass, then he used one of those heavy rollers to flatten and compact the dirt several times. The Geo is then rolled out and you use Large U shaped stakes to hold it down.

    i have this as my step up from war birds and Sport Cub s2 (with conscendo evo waiting patiently) - maiden flight today and thankful i trained and waited - this plan is super stable, quiet, versatile with flaps, easy take off and landing - it's another level and a joy to fly - flew 70% in safe and 30% intermediate and can see i need to try that more - the war birds are still quick, light and fun - the Sport Cub is necessary for learning but lacks a bit of punch - thanks for your informative and understated videos!

      Lol. I know who you're talking about. Our set up page is always right before the flying starts in our reviews. You can see our rates, expo, balance, and a good bit more info as well, so if there is anything we did different than the manual you'll know. On this one the manual is in a new format as it relates to programming the transmitter. They have made it super easy. It is more thorough and takes you step by step...every detail. This is a good improvement, before they were written for someone very familiar with programming Spektrum. Now it is written so someone that doesn't know anything about it can do it.

      Can I ask, between this and the TTevo UMX, which is more comfortable to fly in smaller spaces? Looks like the tractor might like a little more power on landings and maybe not able to float in as much as the timber.

    I like the lights showing when you have the dark trees in the background. It must look great at night. Thanks for a great video. And it flies off the grass! I wondered how it would do on grass. Your video answers a lot of questions people would ask about that plane. You have a lot of experience, and your videos show it. I like the fact that the battery packs work in this model and my Voodoo model. There are a lot of UMX park flyers that take the same batteries. Flying at parks is so cool. I can travel 10 minutes to a park that has a group of people flying park flyers. Otherwise, to fly my larger nitro planes I have to travel about 30 minutes out to a field that is AMA sanctioned by FAA to fly RC planes without the transponder in the plane. This type of plane will help many people get into the hobby and learn to fly at a park. Spektrum technology SAFE and AS3X will help people getting into the park flyer hobby. Thanks again. Great video and your other videos are great too!

    Thanks Adam. Great review - as usual. The burning question for me is if you could only have one would it be this or the TT Evo. I just watched both reviews back to back and it sure looked to me that you had more fun with the TT.

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  Год назад

      Thanks Steve! So, to be fair we had more time, and better wx to fly the TTE. The circumstances were not in our favor with the AT. We had a lot of rain, and when we had good wx, there was not as much time to do all the things we wanted to with it. Sometimes it's tough getting opportunities when you're flying something unreleased and you can't let anyone see it. I did enjoy flying the Air Tractor. It is a good, honest airframe and a lot of fun.
      So...that said, I'm a bush plane guy. They are one of my favorite genres and I own several from the UMX TTE to a 20lb 1/4 scale Super Cub. You can bush fly the Air Tractor a little bit, but the bigger wheels and gear on the TTE are better suited for that. Both planes are equally aerobatic and powerful on 3s. Both are stable and predictable. Both have an awesome set of lights. The TTE will fly slower than the Air Tractor, but both can land and stop very quickly. The bottom line is I think a person will be happy with either one depending on their personal taste. To answer your question though, because I'm such a bush plane fan, the TTE would be my pick of the two if I had to pick. I like the "both" option! Lol.

    • @BrotherAviator
      @BrotherAviator Год назад

      Thanks for the thorough reply Adam. I love Bush planes myself. The first one I saw in person was at the landing strip in Wiseman Alaska. I could not stop checking it out and I am leaning toward the TT (UMX and standard) for that reason. However, I love the color scheme, clear canopy and Pilot on the AT. Pretty cool for a UMX. I will be reconnoitering a new field up north in a few weeks. That will help with my choice.

    Well flown but!
    I would have liked to have seen both the 2 and 3 s in a pure vertical flight as a comparison and the other thing is a heap of flyers buy the umx to fly because of space restrictions so some stol work would have been good to see.

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  Год назад +2

      Noted Noel, thanks! For what its worth the last landing on 2s and the landing on the grass on 3s are as short as it gets with this one, and that is pretty short. While I didn't do it on camera, as with the majority of rc planes if you just "punch n go", the UMX Air Tractor will be off the ground in a couple of plane lengths. STOL is not a problem, and you saw the slow flight and slow turns. It can be flown in a tight space as with most ultra micros. As for the vertical we'll make it obvious on the next one!

    I have fond memories of glider tugging in a Pawnee. Long nose out front, low wings slightly forward of the cockpit - the "poor man's Spitfire" as it was once described to me! One day I must get a Pawnee or similar but I'm not much into UMX's, nice though this one looks. I I've always fancied the 1.5m or the Extreme Flight versions though! If I had one, I'd be lopping off the battery connector and just going XT30/XT60 as I don't like battery adapter leads and really dislike JST. Another great review; keep up the hard work!

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  Месяц назад +1

      Glad you like it! Not really on the glue. I don't use the foam safe stuff much as most of my planes are EPO and you can use regular CA on that. With the UM's they are EPS usually and you have to use foam safe. Just don't use kicker/accelerator...that will dissolve that type of foam, and it doesn't take gobs of it. Less is more. Any brand name foam safe CA should be fine. If you're gluing the gear mounting plate back on you may need to reinforce that area with some small carbon fiber rods.

    Hi Adam and Heidi. Would you recommend the throttle curve you did on the UMX TTE for this plane as well? 3S does have quite a bit more power as you mention. I've had a few crashes with it (call it Mr McGlue) but it still flies great. It was my first plane after my 400mm Volantex/eachine warbirds.

    • @ModelAV8RChannel

They both fly well enough that whichever one is your type of plane you'll enjoy either one. Durability is probably similar, but I don't really know for sure.
