You may want to consider relocating the LiPo. Thermal Runaway happens super fast, and next to the cheap plastic fuel tank you may not have time to remove it and toss it before it grenades.
A LiPo bag is definitely a good idea. Also some sort of LiPo battery monitor/alarm is a good idea too. You can get small ones that plug into the balance port and make a pretty loud beep if they start to get low.
Moving it up off the ground to avoid puncturing a cell is a great idea. I'm not too concerned about it running away. A DLE 170 needs between 4.8 and 9 volts for the ignition system. A 2S 5000 mAh lipo will have lots of capacity. The JST connector means it's not drawing a lot of amps. It's also a relatively constant draw, not the spikes seen in an RC car or plane. Those spikes drawing current as fast as the battery can supply are what heats up a battery.
Maybe consider a LiFeP04 that is far less likely to have thermal runaway. The FAA did a study on the fire hazards of various lithium chemistries and LiFeP04 was the only type that did not propagate fire to adjacent cells in a pack. Do a search for DOT/FAA/TC-16/17 if you would like to read it.
@@ulbuilder LiFePO4 can not do thermal runaways. They might boil of the fluid but thats it, even with a nail through it. You wont be able to throw away the lithium battery before it does some serious damage, they generally release most of their energy within a couple seconds, like a small flare. Seems kinda risky right next to the fuel tank.
@mavicminipilot I heard his balls are so massive that if one side caught fire, it would take seven years for the flames to spread across to the rest of his balls
Not all "Lithium" batteries are the same. This would be a very good application for Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) cells, most often advertised as A123 (the brand name that actually makes the best ones). They won't "vent with flames" as we used to say about lithium ion pouch cells. I use them as the starter battery in my offroad motorcycle, they have survived many crashes and are good for an easy five years of use.

After truing the manifold surfaces, use high temp red RTV (no gasket) and RED loctite on the bolts. Let cure for 24 hours. Exhaust will not come loose for years. Been using engines like that for 10+ years, I know from experience what works. ;)
What’s your thought on ultra copper for exhaust sealant? I’ve never used red myself, but on my aircooled vw’s ultra copper has been great, if not perfect.
@@orbitaljellyfish808 Ultra copper (Permatex product) can handle a higher temperature than red RTV, though it's similar (700 C vs 650 C). No Magneto, no alternator, a separate start and run battery would give some redundancy. Diodes allowing the start battery to charge the run battery or run off the start battery. So, starting is only with the start battery, but running can be both batteries.

Batteries definitely need to be in a lithium fire safe container. And it can't have the possibility of becoming separated from the airframe if it goes TR. That would be unsafe for the ground below. But now you're literally "the bomb". 👍
Pro tip here. Locktite makes a high temp & high strength locktite for exhaust bolts. Might also use a dab on the spark plugs. Those cheap pot metal aluminum cylinders are famous for spitting spark plugs out the hole along with the threads. The prop bolt issue also could have been fixed by using a lock washer and a fender washer or two on each bolt, which you really should be using anyways just like you’re supposed to on a Moster prop hub. The lock washer prevents backing out and the fender washer protects the hub and encourages more uniform pressure distribution.

The primer bulb probably was not safe for ethanol in the gasoline. The chinese manufacturer probably didn't consider ethanol, because only the U.S. puts food in the gas tank.
I think you made a great point about manufacturers perhaps going “smaller” and lighter instead of always emphasizing power. Smaller cage and engine combined with a light but comfortable harness would be ideal for someone just wanting to get in the air without a lot of frills. The closest I can think of is the Nirvana F-light…but I had a lot of problems with the engine and it’s NOT inexpensive. Thanks for the video and will look forward to the first flight.
The sketchiest part of that is definitely the battery. You're trusting the circuitry to be designed in a way that does not strain the battery to failure. Lithium fires burn extremely hot and fast, and I wouldn't rely on being able to unplug and chuck it lol. It being right next to the fuel tank doesn't help either.
I recommend checking th balance of the prop. I have an rc plane with the same set up. Same nock off motor. No issues for me. 30 flights on it. But good prop balance and then use ducting aluminum tape to make a gasket. I went 2 layers on each pipe and mine have not leaked. Not a fan of silicone. Replace those fully threaded back to those shoulder bolts with a washer/spacer, the threaded bolts will fail way faster due to shear stress, crack propagation, and the moments created on start/stop, if you use it long enough the propeller can literally start coming undone, and with one bolt shear failure you'll have a pretty messy situation, not cause it stalls but because it could still run creating a twisting gyrating moment midair
Most of the "No Name" products you get off Ali have sourced cheaper components, with terrible Casting of Metals and the products eventually fail and break down easily. You are expierenced -- but be careful especially with the metal parts that look good brand new but Ive seen them fail countless times from fatigue. Alot of the Metal made overseas has no quality control & microsocpic imperfections.
This is my concern, and the same also applies to the harness. It might look good with webbing of a suitable size, but who knows what the actual load capacity is? How can we know what alloy has been used for the buckles and other critical parts? No-name Chinese stuff has its place, but I only ever trust it in applications where a failure is inconvenient, but not dangerous.
Very cool! Your harness, hoop, and wiring look nicer than mine. Seems like they remembered all the parts in your package! I recognize that propeller, it's the better one of the two. The prop that didn't fly me was a 2-piece slot together type, but that one should fly you fine. I fit mine in the passenger seat with the prop on. Can't wait to see it fly!
Great video. My only worry is that you’re going to have novices seeing the cheap price and ultimately buying it and they probably won’t do the tinkering you did (because of your expertise and experience in doing this for a living). I just hope people think it through first before attempting to buy and get trained properly. 😅
research how hot a lithium battery burns at, then rethink about "reaching back and grabbing it if something goes wrong." use the bag, they exist for a reason. safe flying!

secure the battery better and add some isulation between the battery and fuel tank and you so if it exploded it will explode to the side and you safe i cant wait to see you try fly with it
I bet there’s a market for a unit this light. Surely not a cross country or high performance, but for quick and fun flying it could be ideal. Thanks for sharing
If you want to get the actual thrust output. Do the Hang Test at Full Power after Breakin. A little math, and the angle of the pendulum and weight of you and the motor should give a very accurate Thrust. As long as the pendulum angle wrt gravity is measured accurately.

For your fasteners, loctite will get soft with heat, look into nordlock washers. I run them on any engine with high vibration, like my snowmobiles for example.
When this project gets old, please try its big brother the DLE 200cc with 2.7:1 belt reduction drive. It weighs more (11.4 kg) and is only rated at 20 HP (2.5 HP more), but with the belt reduction and a full size prop it should make a boatload more thrust.

I know next to nothing about paramotoring. I do know a bit about RC cars, helicopters, and LiPo batteries. Nirvana paramotors (at least the newer ones) don't use a magneto for ignition, they use the battery. No problems getting multiple flights off of a charge.
Primer bulbs harden over time due to the material being in contact with fuel, so they have to be replaced every once in a while. The temperature will affect how soon it wears out.

“..carry the weight of my massive balls”
Humor so subtle, I almost spit my drink out
Tucker, have you ever though about building some type of engine stand so you can ground start a motor safely?
Love your videos!
I am impressed with you level of mechanical knowledge. You seem to have a skillful understanding of the engines.
Has anybody ever flown a paramotor with a cat or dog along for the ride? Would that be an FAA violation?
Casual Tay Zonday comment.
There’s vids with both
PPGGorilla of Florida Flight Sports flys with his dog Jackson on a trike. 😁
I’ve seen dogs. Never a cat though. It’s pretty loud, I know my cat would hate it.

These random gear reviews are great mate 👌👌
You're telling him like he doesn't know already.
Nice video, what kind of video editor is being used? thank you
Where’s the flight video???
We’re waiting….. 🎉😂🎉😂🎉
sanding block work well for flatting!
The shoulder on the prop bolts is there for a purpose. Threads all the way to the head is not a good idea in that application.
Great video. My only worry is that you’re going to have novices seeing the cheap price and ultimately buying it and they probably won’t do the tinkering you did (because of your expertise and experience in doing this for a living). I just hope people think it through first before attempting to buy and get trained properly. 😅
I haven’t been watching you for some time, but ga daymn you got big. Respect!
Can’t wait to see you fly it! Only 6 or 7 things you had to fix on it for it to be reliably flight ready… 😅
Has part 2 been done yet ?
Dude questions whether it will fly but Already plans to give it to a “lucky viewer”
research how hot a lithium battery burns at, then rethink about "reaching back and grabbing it if something goes wrong." use the bag, they exist for a reason. safe flying!
Please call this paramotor "Darwin's Reward" as a play on words of Darwin Awards, because you're taking your life in your hands by strapping that fan to your butt
That's the trophy for winning.
😂😂
I've been looking forward to this video!!
FROM SOMEBODY LIVING IN CHINA: oh god i hate this bloody thing. and i dont even watch the video yet. i see them alot here and they are terrible. plus they brought many pilots to hospital already
Why is he pushing this garbage?!!!
ok i watch half video. and it only confirms what i know abiut this shitty thing. its extreme loud. looses half power when it gets hot and everytime we have a muppet fly this thing with us we get kicked out the place because its too loud. everybody hates it. for good reason. even you dont have money. DO NOT BUY THIS! its a total disaster. the amount of work you put into this you better off buy second hand and fix that.
secure the battery better and add some isulation between the battery and fuel tank and you so if it exploded it will explode to the side and you safe i cant wait to see you try fly with it
1st
Tucker and his friends are going to play “ Paramotor Roulette “ . LoL 😂
I would wear a flack jacket...just in case
I bet there’s a market for a unit this light. Surely not a cross country or high performance, but for quick and fun flying it could be ideal. Thanks for sharing
I love the “let me show off the new car” camera angle.
Awesome! Can’t wait to see it fly!
giving away this as a prize and saying so in the beginning makes me hope you fucking love it and it doesn't fall apart.
If you want to get the actual thrust output. Do the Hang Test at Full Power after Breakin. A little math, and the angle of the pendulum and weight of you and the motor should give a very accurate Thrust. As long as the pendulum angle wrt gravity is measured accurately.
Thanks Tucker,
This is a very helpful video.
Tucker I want to get started in this awesome sport, had back injury from work and this looks like something I can still do after talking to my physical therapist. Thanks for inspiring people and giving a fantasy a realistic point of view!
Tucker, you've grown up since I last watched your channel!
Been waiting for this video since your post!!! Awesome dude!
For your fasteners, loctite will get soft with heat, look into nordlock washers. I run them on any engine with high vibration, like my snowmobiles for example.
when is the video o this paramotor coming up?
When this project gets old, please try its big brother the DLE 200cc with 2.7:1 belt reduction drive. It weighs more (11.4 kg) and is only rated at 20 HP (2.5 HP more), but with the belt reduction and a full size prop it should make a boatload more thrust.
Hi, I would recommend checking out the Minimot paramotor if you want to check out more low profile motors it is very similar size to this just with swing arms and a nicer harness would love to see a full review of this!
I know next to nothing about paramotoring. I do know a bit about RC cars, helicopters, and LiPo batteries. I do advise you get a cheap little lipo bag, just big enough for the 4s to fit in, then strap to your rig like you've done. My best rc basher is a 4s lipo rig, and she hurts those batteries, and I've not blown one up yet. All in all, you've done the work I woulda wanted to do to it, and I'm eager to see this things test flight!! Be safe, have fun!!
Yes! Been waiting on this! It's a mini Fresh Breeze 😂
Wow! Only Tucker could manage to make that pieca sh** come off as shineola! Great video, now I want one
Hell yeah can’t wait to see it in the air!
13:28 puff puff pass, Tucker 😄😄
Maybe I'm the first person to transport an aircraft on a motorcycle.
I have fitted a tuned exhaust.
After my atom 80 I find it might lighter.
At 72 this my find thermaling method here in the Philippines. The motor is only marginally heavier than my paragliding packpack.
Tucker is growing up .. Tuck looks like a guy , now. the kid seems gone now . Dont let it Tuck.. Hope you never think old , man.. Dont get in habits of old people... Keep the routines New and Exciting and always have a new bigger goal that is just so exciting that you cant stop thinking about it , like a kid waiting for Christmas Day .. Keep your passion and I would say dont get stuck in the run of the day stuff...hold off on a dependent... You are a free spirit and its easy for one to tie you down ... Wait on that for a long time , man...Stay with the buds. Thats your family.
Regarding the battery you could use a Li Íon pack, 4S as well! With 18650 cells! They are safer and last longer!
Can’t wait to see you try it out!
One of my concerns is the mufflers coming loose, Despite being lock-tighted and RTV'd. If you can id see if you can find a way to attach some safety wire to them as well as the air filter.
Turns out, you were right. 😂
@@TuckerGott you put stainless steal bolts in Aluminuzm (for propeller) oh no don't do this, replace them immediately, stainless will galvanically corrode to aluminum, weekend already weak stainless bolts.
@@LukaArtelj That’s pretty standard on all paramotors. Never an issue. 🤷♀️
this is not something i would go "cheap on" when your life is at stake, your a mad man!,,, respect & good luck!
First time seing your channel and I subscribed not just for the givaway but because its a sport that has always had me interested ever since I had a rc model of a paramotor in my late teens (awesome video and I look forward to more
Nirvana paramotors (at least the newer ones) don't use a magneto for ignition, they use the battery. No problems getting multiple flights off of a charge.
Primer bulbs harden over time due to the material being in contact with fuel, so they have to be replaced every once in a while. The temperature will affect how soon it wears out.
Massive ⚾⚾'s 🤣. Subtle flex.
Had me cryin'! Love u Tucker, you're a riot.
😂. At first I read that as if you swapped the R for a D in riot.
You ain’t slick with the Amg out front👀👀👀 lol
Tucker got nice toys bro
Amazing! I'm not anything like a paramotor pilot, but I love your videos. It's amazing what you've done with this inexpensive paramotor. It's so tiny compared to your other motors, and kinda sounds toylike. Good work.
