I use brown noise all the time, almost every night to go to sleep. I use white noise to stay focused for work, and keep those to sounds and what I use them for very separate. Nice to hear the science and explanation about the differences, nice video!
For reference: 2:00 White Noise, 3:24 Pink Noise, 4:31 brown noise. I'd heard of pink noise before, but your explanation and samples helps a lot, thanks! Pink noise reminds me of the noise in an airplane. I had not heard of brown noise, but it reminds me of waterfalls at a distance. Keep up the great work! 🟥🍁🟥
It’s amazing how different they are and how they make you feel. I always used white noise but I never found it soothing, I didn’t know the others existed but brown noise is so calming. It’s wild!
Thank you so very much, just heard of brown noise 2 nights ago and even though I don't like the sound of it, it has really helped me sleep and wanted to know how it works, will try pink tonight.
I used white and pink noise for the decades of my audio career. Now I know the definition for red/brown noise - 6dB/octave. Nice video and clear explanations. Also a very well done "choose for yourself" recommendation for which is best.
Thank you! Brown noise sounds like a airplane to me and makes me immediately fall asleep. White noise really makes me anxious and just irritable. This explains it. :-)
Great video! My wife and I have used brown noise since 2012, back when we lived close to the flight path of the Las Vegas Airport. We found that brown noise helped to muffle/blend the noise of the jet engines just enough so that we didn't hear them while sleeping. We now live under the Life-Flight helicopter path on the east side of the valley (we can sure pick 'em). I run the brown noise through computer speakers with a small subwoofer. I play it loud enough to help drown out most of the helicopters. I learned about pink noise a few months ago, but haven't experimented with it yet.
@The Nightmare The subwoofer gives more resonance, filling the room. My wife describes it as "3-dimensional sound" compared to regular speakers. We have a Logitech 2.1 speaker system (model Z537) which has a small sub and it's plenty loud for us.
@@asdf1234_. We use a website called SimplyNoise on an old iPhone 3. I'm sure that there are sites with more options; however, we listen to it every night, and this site has only gone down once in the last 12 years.
Very interesting. Had only heard of white noise before which I find stressful. I live in the boonies so not dealing with noisy neighbors, but do have 1 problem. My dog is afraid of thunderstorms and will freak out and climb on top of my head. As you can imagine it is hard to sleep with a 50 pound dog freaking out next to you and/or trying to smother you. I discovered Relax My Dog music works wonderfully to calm her down but I can't sleep with music playing. I am going to try playing brown noise next time she starts freaking out during a thunderstorm and she if it calms her down and I can sleep too.
I’ve been researching the different feelings I get went responding to *colored* noise. For me it was really simple, I just listened to the *color* for a second or two, and instinctively knew which sound was good, for me…I could actually feel my body response. When I heard the brown noise, I knew I had found the sound that best for me. Now I’m watching you explain the reason for my internal preference. Interesting stuff. Thanks for posting this info.
Ive always been a light sleeper. One summer home from college, i had to work 3rd shift and discovered the fan sound. Since then, i have used white noise. But now i am really liking Pink noise.
Can you do a video on the different types of earplugs and how some are able to give you a “concert” or “restaurant” experience versus blocking all sounds?
I don't understand why the image macro for this video says "Why brown noise is better." The video makes no reference to such an opinion/recommendation. Other than that, this is a very informative and helpful video.
"Sometimes you just can't soundproof enough (...), by introducing one these noises into your life might make you not go completely insane." Spot on. It helped me so much with being overly nervous and neurotic from noise. It's funny how noise helps with noise. For me brown noise was perfect.
Thank you for making this video! I’ve been having a hard time sleeping and heard so many different coloured noises and wondered which one works best for sleep! Definitely appreciate your video on this! Thank you again! ❤I’ll be back to letcha know if the brown noise works better, I did try the green and pink noise 😊
I'm sleeping with brown noise, it's the best for fall asleep fast, for me. It's dark, full, rich... Although, I found some dark pink noise without adds recently, it's good for sleep too.
You’re welcome! And let us all know which one works best for you! I find for me, the longer I listen to all three types of noise, brown noise always wins. I used to listen to white noise to help me focus but now I find it ear piercing compared to brown noise.
@@soundproofguide definitely not a fan of white noise. I had to get use to it when I was younger. Pink noise helps me chill out, drowns out a lot of outside noise, but I can’t sleep with it. I like brown noise. It’s like being inside a very quite airplane.
love your videos in general but this one is my favorite so far, i have been a fan of brown noise for a while (thanks noisy neighbors) and have tried to explain its benefits to friends for a while, this will be a helpful tool. BUT on a different note, I am fascinated by your accent, I cannot place it, if I may ask, I would love to know where your accent comes from (I'm guessing french canadian or close to a french speaking region or upper great lakes area) :)
I use noise to override birds dawn chorus from waking me up at first light, making this the only things that matters. So therefor it's the louder the noise the better no matter what color you use.
I need help sleeping. I work nights and now only get about 3 hours of sleep during the day. I didn’t sleep much at night before I went to working nights but I’d get at least 5-7 hours. I’ll try these.

Yes brown noise if you go for a ride while someone else is driving and you are the kind of person that falls asleep quickly when there’s no music or anything and pretty much just the sound of the car on the road which is exactly how I am then brown noise will work amazing for you because it just sounds like you’re in a space shuttle up in spaceor on an airplane when there’s no other noise it’s just so soothing and it doesn’t sound like you lost signal on your TV like white noise does it’s very high-pitched. It seems like to me, so it’s hard for me to actually fall asleep, but brown noise just immediately put me to sleep.
Thank you for this! I wanted a good breakdown comparing them and I hate when it’s 20-30 minutes to try and get bullet points. This was short sweet and to the point. Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!! 🙏🤍

If you combine white, brown, and pink you get Neapolitan noise. 👌
I highly recommend brown to make subliminals btw.

You certainly know how to pick them is right! I used to live under a flight path about 20 years ago. I wish I knew about brown noise back then! Lol
Does the subwoofer help for these types of sound files? I have a pair of bookshelf speakers and have been thinking about getting a sub.
