My very first car was a 56 Chevy station wagon. My brother in law gave it to me for a bunch of work I did on his house. I was 16, and I loved that car. It was my freedom wheels. The floor was shot, someone put a 283 in it and messed up the wiring. When you turned on the heater fan and used the turn signals, the fan would go on and off. My buddy was riding with me home from high school, his science book fell off the seat, through the hole in the floor board and I ran over it. He wondered how he would explain tire marks across his book when he turned it back in.
You should move out in the country and get 10 or 20 acres and shop like Half Ass has. You are to cramped where you live now. Thank you for the video sir.
Love the wagon and LOVE the Gene Winfield story!! Been to his shop in California and took his metal working class at his shop... Even had him and Sam Foose sign the dash of my '49 Dodge that I took to a car show at Gene's shop. Some of the coolest guys you'll ever wanna meet!!
That is the ideal candidate for Dani’s 6 L! For Dani’s car, a 6 cylinder with period correct speed equipment would be epic! At first I thought that this car would be the perfect candidate for that, but just like you do multiple brands, multiple engines would be awesome to see. Oh, it needs Cragar’s just like the four-door giveaway!
When I was 10 my parents bought me a 1950 Chevy 2 Door Post that they had owned when they were first married and then sold when they got a little better off financially. That was the fist car I ever worked on and taught me a lot. I eventually sold it when I was 15, but I have regretted that ever since. I would enjoy watching you fix one of those early Chevy's up.
What’s cooler than a 2 door tri five? A tri five Wagon! So glad you snagged it Dan! Can’t wait to see you build it...my vote is for a patina exterior...new interior and modern LS driveline. Common Dan do it!
First car I had was a 57 Chevy Bel Aire. It was a 4 dr. sedan with the 283 in it. My brother had a 2 dr. sedan with the 283. Thanks for the memories. Love your videos.
Cool wagon I had a 1955 Plymouth wagon when I was dating my wife in 1964. But I really like the 1955 Pontiac that was next to the 56 chevy you bought. The tri 5 Pontiac's had so much more power than the chevys, but had the same problem as the chevys with the rocker studs being pressed in instead of screwed in so they would come out of the head when you over-reved them. One guy in a 1957 Pontiac was going 85MPH in 2nd gear when he lost power. We pulled the rocker covers and turned the engine over with the starter and some of the rockers were spinning in circles instead of rocking. I'm glad you are saving these old classics. Jim
Love the wagon. Resto mod the chassis - disks all around for safety, upgraded suspension for ride and handling. Go with the LS for power and reliability plus an overdrive auto for great drive-ability. Fix the body to eliminate rust and make it tight. If the exterior has a bit of patina, that's all good and takes some of the worry out of daily driving. Give it a tidy interior you can live with, nice stereo for cruisin', PS/PB/AC and you will have a great ride that can work hard.
I had a 55 four-door wagon all dark green. I ended up liking the four door for easy access to the back when I had the seat folded down and I never had to get out to let someone in the back. Also the door hinges lasted better than 2 door. I like old Suburbans now for the same reasons. It was the best car I ever had. It was well worth the $100 I paid for it in the 1970s.. omf
OMG! I've said it before - I have not been a fan of the Tri-5's, except how your channel has one me over, but the Wagons - The Wagons are and have always been the coolest! Growing up here near the coast of California we have always seen so many surf wagons, you can't help but love them. Well done!
There was a time I would not buy a 4 door car. But now I would love to have a four door 57 Chevy. The first video I watched was when you pulled the 57 out of the field. Fan ever since👍👍👀
Dan, I don't care what make, what badges it's carrying, but I personally LOVE Wagons. This one has a heap of potential. Sticking with the original paintwork, or at least the same color scheme is exactly the path if be going down. An awesome Highway Cruiser in the making. Stay groovy the both of you, and for anyone still not subscribed - PULL FINGER!!.
aha... fantastic...... wagons rule. My 56 wagon is the Pontiac version of the Chev 210, Pathfinder Deluxe. Even the same color combination. Way Cool. Bought my wagon in 1990. Still own it. My kids grew up riding in it. I Drag raced it. Road trips, was the wedding vehicle many times................ honor this fantastic ride. There are sooooo few wagons left. so many ended up as parts cars, or in derby's then crushed. GM was on strike in Canada in 1956 for i think 8 months......... ALL 1956 GM production numbers are low. Great find.
Nice Townsman wagon, factory v8 car, tinted glass, and they pulled the engine without cutting the core support in two, you are lucky ! The rear corner windows are not the same length as on the two door Handyman wagons in case one gets broken. If it had the third seat it would be a nine passenger Beauville wagon.
I just bought a 60 Biscayne so I vote "YES" on that 4dr as a new project for the channel... you should check out KINDIGIT's 60 4dr build , it's sick ! Oh , and as far as the wagon goes , leave the body as is , bag it & LS SWAP THAT BITCH... do some stock steelies with stock hubcaps & go the sleeper route !
Hey Dan! Thanks for the shout last night from Georgia USA. I love the wagon, 4drs ok, I'm 60 yrs old and disabled and 4 drs look better and better. You did a great job with the 1 piece floor on the 56. Do that and I love the idea of a ls engine. You may think I'm crazy but I love the c3 vette wheels on those cars, they at 8 inches wide, raise the car a little and it will look great.
I was trying to save this video for first break at work tomorrow, but we lost power and the Thumbail kept calling to me! Looks like a fun one . The LS conversion is a killer idea, gets my vote. ✌
Years ago a guy we knew was looking for a pair of rear wagon doors. We had a nice pair of sedan doors on a parts car out back. So we cut the tops off his wagon doors and put them on the sedan doors. Did the same to the interior garnish moldings. Ended up with a 4dr wagon with a beltline dip. It's a subtle change that only a trifive wagon guy would really notice.
The old 350 Chevy from the K 10 I think would be the perfect engine for that car and I won’t mess with the paint it’s pretty cool how it is you should recover the seats like the 57 Chevy giveaway car but white
Yes, keep the wagon for yourself! Make it safe, weld in what’s neccesary, put in a LS, try to keep the body as is as much as you can, I love it! I’m building a ‘57 210 wagon myself at the moment!
Abandoned! No. I'm guilty of the same. These old cars are just crying to be saved. No engine trans interior and rusty.....no problem. Thanks for sharing the love of cars.
Wagons are always cool and she's looking good. I also saw a 49/50 Fleetline behind you ( fastback ) very cool I once had a 49 Skyline model ..this guy has an awsome selection of cars i too would be going crazy and wanting to buy something ...thanks for the walk around yards are fadding away fast !!
You have already proved how easy it is to put in a full floor and rockers so this is going to be a no brainer. As for drive line, take the 6.0 out of Dani's, mate it with a 4l80e, throw in an explorer rear end, lower it and tool around on a set of Detroit steels. Fix the interior, knock out the dents in the wings and enjoy! I am a buyer when you come to sell!
When I was younger you could find those tri five anywhere and cheap. Now forget it anything that looks fair cost a lot of money in my area. I kick myself for not picking one up back then and storing it for a project down the road. thanks for the video.
The wagon is awesome and the idea of the 60 is really cool

Now you need a 55 and 57 wagon, awesome!
Haha I gotta stop
You've made it clear that's not possible lol
I love it!! Yes. Ls....lower it....leave the body alone. Clean it up a bit. Buff it out a little. Gonna be a great build!
Have your interior guy stitch you up a new inside. Will look great
I love old station wagons ! I have several including a 55 Dodge with a Hemi . Keep it please !

Cool wagon! 60 chevy bel-air/impalas 4door posts have a taller roof line. Coupes and 4 door hard tops are lower. Compare front windshields! 😁
Aahhhh good to know
Btw, 2 door posts have the same tall roof line as 4 doors. I had my mind set on a 2 door hard top... nevermind the dumb swede in the corner! 😂😑
Good call on the wagon. I prefer the 50s era Chevy's personally. So much character. Tri-fives all the way! You're becoming a go to channel for them!
LMAO I just said the other day all you need is a wagon and BAM!! You got one that's awesome those tri 5 wagons are cool as hell

A 2 door conversion would make a nice runner! A poor mans Nomad! Keep up the good work!
Would love to see you turn that Impala into a 2 door, that sounds real interesting.
Dan, I agree on the LS engine! Now that you have the square body pickup, you need your own trailer for hauling old cars!
Yeah.
That wagon is a jewel and keeper. Restore it and LS swap it can definitely make money on it or keep it 💯
Love the Long Roof
