- We attempt to get running a 1960 Pontiac 2 door wagon that has been sitting in a field of cars for over 25 years. It has a 235 Thrift Master staight 6, 3 speed standard floor shift. Old hot rod wagon from the 60's/ 70's.

That station wagon deserves a second chance to live.
We all like it also, just time an money now. Hopefully next year.

super rare that's a very rare station wagon might be the only one left nice super great find👍🏼
Thank you. I beleave there was less than 1000 built in Canada.
I’m 58 and have NEVER ever seen one like it!
@@SuperchiefApache They were only made in Canada.
That old Poncho NEEDS to be saved. It's DIFFERENT, it's COOL, and it's RARE and really doesn't seem to be in too bad of shape rust wise compared to cars here in Minnesota. If I had the means to do it, I would snap that one up in a heartbeat... As for the Turizmo I had an 84 2.2 5 spr that was a shipping screw up. It had tags saying it was supposed to go to Europe and not stay in the USA... Needless to say the European ones were a bit different than the domestic ones mechanically. Carb, intake manifold, exhaust header, ignition system, computer and transaxle were different (transaxle had gearing in it which Chrysler Corp said were never put in the car -- 3.05:1 ring n pinion with a 27% overdrive 5th gear. It was amazingly quick, got up to 54 mpg hwy, and topped out at over 140 mph. (It took being given a ticket by a state trooper to help me learn that and when I finally got my license back my insurance premiums were a constant reminder of it for 5 years). I also had it's evil twin which a friend and I built -- an 84 Charger we made a frame under and dropped a 340 and 4 spd in, built a transmission tunnel and converted to RWD with the rear end out of the rolled 340 Duster donor that I had gotten narrowed. Drove it once and it was a handful to say the least..... Sold it 2 days later..
That 340 in there would have been nice to see. Thank you. We may try and get the wagon out of there next year.
That wagon needs to be saved!!
Hopefully sometime next year we will pull it out of there.
Would like to have that wagon fellas.....just saying!

Thank you more to come.
I like the looks of the Parisian next to it! although tha old wagon is a pretty rare car.Make a great hot rod with a 455 in it!!
Yes it would. Do not give us any ideas like that, we have to much to do right now. 😁

The glass is all there, the body isn't too far gone. If the frame and floors are in good shape, it might be a good little project.
It may be one of our project cars in the next year or two.
My neighbor had a 1961 Impala and I can remember the front fenders being rotted on the top front back in 1971. It's a very common spot.
Yes I think there is a brace there that collects dirt.
Being from the uk we don’t have access to any of these cars. Anything old over here ends up rusted away. This 2 door waggon has to be one of the coolest cars I’ve ever seen
There is also a cauple more 2 door wagons we will be filming shortley also in this yard.

I didn't know Pontiac made a 2 door wagon! Cool!
It is a Canadian built model.
@@pennyshotrodscustoms I thought that all along. I said to myself, "A 1960 Pontiac *TWO-DOOR* wagon?!" Then I said, "Ahhh, it's Canadian!"
@@pennyshotrodscustoms And that engine looks to be an inline-6. Our Pontiacs (in the United States) had V-8's.
@@knowbodiesfull5768 Definitely a 6. We have been hearing that Canadian Pontiacs are quite different than the US counterparts, such as all Canadian Pontiacs came with Chevy engines?
Love the old 2.2 Plymouth turismo my friend had one of them in the early 90's it was manual 5 spd did lots of cruising around in one it and I had the 86 Shelby Charger with the turbocharged 2.2 blue and grey with a 5 spd those were the days I would love to relive again
We were hoping that this one would run, but the engine was pulled.
Awesome wagon and worthy of saving. Great call on the fire ext. Smart, it saved my 67 Mustang big block 460 from burning to the ground and the garage with it. lol Cheers from Motown. Keep us posted on your updates and progress on this little beauty please!

There's a Body Style in this 1960 Pontiac that has beautiful lines like no other a wonderful Family Car from 60 Years ago

We will get to it one year i like it have a soft spot for wagons

Hi folks , would love to be squirreled away with this for the winter . Just patching holes , cleaning , and making it nicey nice . Of coarse Moon equipment stickers and S/S Cragars . 6 in a row can stay so can the Indy shifter , just make sure there's a white round shifter knob .The yellow paint is a keeper... at least as much as can be saved . Would show up lookin' like a Greg car . Thanks for the visit and chance to daydream . Was hoping you would show it again . My shirt of the day was red flannel but no black checks . Should be wearing my green and black checkered flannel cap !
thank you you know it will be back
Had a 60 in the late 60's, but my wagon had a 389 and was a torque horse. I also had a 60 Pontiac sedan with a 389 too back then.
Thats awesome one day i would like to get a 389.
Definitely worth saving! The hard part will be the roof repair, but you boys do some decent metal work! Wonder if a Suburban or other wagon would have ribs that would match? Keep at It! Go Penny's!🤣🤣🤣
Thank you Glenn. Maybe next year we will do something with this one.
Next year sounds better than many years!!!🤣
It's a pretty neat little car !
It's phuking gigantic mate.
I agree with most others that it needs to be saved.
We will have another look at it next year.
I have never seen one of these, but what a cool looking car. Definitely not something very common. We shall call it big Bird lol
I do think the yellow suits it and so does that name.
yeah that's a rare one you might see a Super Chief more often but that's definitely a keeper right there especially in the shape shes in.

I never seen one before. I didn't know Pontiac a 2 door that year. I have seen a few 57 Pontiac safari 2 door wagons. Our family had a 59 Catalina safari wagon in the early sixties, but it was a four door. It was a beautiful seasprayed green color.
Thats awesome i like wagons and glad people are starting to dig them looking forward to working on it next year thank you for watching Jack.
OMG what a classic

You guys should save a car and drive it home. Alot of that going on now but people learn from your struggle and problem solving. Thx for interesting video 👍
We thought about that but, we have to many projects and not enough space right now. This car will not get scrapped, it will be saved some day.

She's a good candidate for restoration and there's very few of those left let alone intact.

I have never seen one of these in a 2 door wagon! Tons of 4 doors all over the place and usually near mint condition. Just saw one the other day! This might be a cool car for someone who wants to get it back on the road. As for the Tempo, I owned a couple in the day and didn't like them then either! Lol!
Theres a 2 door that drives around here but yup think there pretty rare cars for a 2 door and agree about the tempo lol
As every one else has said: WOW! What a cool wagon! Bring her back to life!

So cool!
Why thank you
Well worth salvaging! Would like to see her restored!
We will see next year or two to get it on the road.
Wow never seen one an now I have man I really like it , everything about it the way the looks in the front an headlights an the front windshield too an dash an it's a straight drive . Man ha I want that even tho it's really rusted 😯😏 an for sure needs to be saved lol
We might look at it again in the spring time.
It is a surprise to see a 6 cylinder full sized Pontiac, especially a wagon. It must be a Canadian model.
You are right!
This is a great little baby to have a modern touch engineered into a rebirth!
That car is cool, indeed.
The glass in that beast alone is worth its value.
Im sure it is will be working on it in the spring time.
I just looked up production figures for 1960 and 1959 Pontiac two door station wagons. I found figures for the 4 door wagons, but not the two doors wagons. Apparently they must be so rare that whoever compiled those figures never knew they existed. Actually I wonder if somebody converted a four-door into a two-door the more I think about it.
We looked it up and this is a Canadian car and they made less than 1000 in 60. Pontiac only made 2 door wagons in Canada for 59 and 60.
I spy a Monza or Skyhawk near the Turismo! My first car was an 80 Spyder! My Dad bought it for $750. I'd love to get another H-body beater to fix up for my kids when they get their license!
I think it is the Pontiac version not sure.
Hi guys watching in the UK
Cool, like to here from people over seas.
Turismo? Is that what they called them up there? We had them here in the states that we call Dodge Omni or Plymouth Horizon. I had one. Same color paint and interior. I gave $50us and drove it for a year. Bad clutch and all. If you were patient and didn't push it too hard it would grab enough to get you going. Had a HUSRT handle on the stock shiter. Only thing I wanted and kept from the car. On the bright side it almost paid me back triple the day I took it over the scale. Thanks for sharing. Love that old wagon.
Thank you. We were hoping to try and start that car but the motor was gone.
very rare, very cool! Do the Metro next.
We will have a look and see if it is seazed next time we are there.
Distributor is supposed to turn on the old 235 engines . Vacuum advance is fixed and link moves distributor as you accelerate .
Good to know.
If it is a Canadian built Pontiac it should have come with a 261ci (GMC Truck engine)
An identifier is on the block right by the starter there would be two raised hash marks ( || ) if it is a 261ci 👍👍
Thank you for the informtion, we will have to check the next time we are out there.
Props to showing the 2.2 mopar
Yes but it is sad that there was no motor for us to work with.
Some of those older Pontiacs 58-62 had the 261 not the 235
thats good to know thank you
I have one restored fun to drive gets tons of attention!!
Cool, thank you Tony. Can you post a picture on our Facebook page? Penny's Hot Rods and Customs.
I wanna see the Tempo run. I think I could speak for Tyler and Del and say they’d like to see the Tempo run too.
Tempo's will be the last ditch effort. They are a horrible car.
Station wagons are awesome
They sure are.
Ha ha, cool find and great video :-) I'd love to get my hands on that station wagon especially since I just found a 400 horse Buick 350 out of a 69 Buick LeSabre that would fit nicely in that 😋
We might get to this one next year and try and get it moving.
It would have been great content to se the wagon drive again😊
We will be back working on the Pontiac this summer and looking forward to it thats for sure
Its so old that just like it is with a hosing of course, and drive after a new clutch.... I have a feeling the lining is in the flywheel cover on the bottom like most had back in the day.. a mighty nice feature if you ask me. I don't think it should be restored if you have plenty to do... which means more than just escaping the shop for a few minutes. Those were nice rides... not a sedan delivery cause it has windows but some cool things are done with them if the frame isn't shot. I think that the wagons shared the same frame as the convertible. with the ex member. I'm a ford man but thats okay cause I heard that 85% of all the chevy rigs are still on the road today..... the other 15% made it home.
They are a neat car for sure and we would like to get to it one year thanks Morgan.
Sweet car boys,I'd trade a flannel shirt for it!
I will let Ryan know.
15:57 SHE'S ALIVEEEEEEE!!!!!!! 💪
That she is
Some of those Canadian Pontiacs had 261 six bangers in them...if I remeber right the 261 was standard on the Pontiac. Same basic engine as 235, was a truck engine, but in the pontiac it had hydraulic lifters.
Thank you for the info. If we look at it in the spring we will try and find out which it is.
@@pennyshotrodscustoms here is a Canadian kid from Vancouver who did a 55 laurentian ruclips.net/video/vNfp5GG6eRs/видео.html
1963 (16 age) my dad was transferred from Tulsa to Calgary. He worked for a drilling company. As an okie I had never seen canadian cars. The Pontiacs with 6 bangers and Chevy V8 were new to me. I also marveled at how many family cars had 6 cylinders.... then on reflection in town we had no freeways, and the speed limit on the TransCanada was like 60mph and in the wintwr faster driving was not safe. So 6cyl full size cars made perfect sense. And as always Canadians are known for their good sense. And BTW ARE THE MOST KIND AND POLITE FOLKS ON EARTH.
I am back in Oklahoma but I have great friends and love of Canada. You are very skilled and I really enjoy your videos
@@tombob671 Thank you Tom. We like hearing stories like that.
Looks like ‘70 mopar front seat. I need those headrests
The vacuum advance on the distributor actually moved the entire distributor for that model of six cylinder engine. It was not changed until the mid 60's to my knowledge. I had a 54 Chevrolet that had the 235 engine that worked the same way.
Thank you Joseph.
Man I would love to have that wagon. And it doesn’t do any good to pump the gas pedal when there’s no gas in the carburetor when you’re only pouring it through the top but other than that you guys are doing a great job I think that is so damn fun!
Thank you Alan.
Needs a 421 tri power!!!
That would work.

Love the other Poncho you're building before winter kicked in as well. Yup, toss the 6 beater and save it for a go cart or a tractor lol Rod-ification Penny's style fo sho :-)
I do like this car alot and it is in the future in the spring time when the snow is gone ill be back on the white 61 Pontiac i have a bunch of new parts here for it already.

A 59 would be cool.
Seams like a pretty rare car? Did you check out the production #s on that car?
We have not yet, but a guy on facebook said it is a Canadian built car only and less than 1000 were built.
I would buy you all a jacket for that car. She's a beauty. I think you're right . It will be a 230 or 235 or250. I had a '63 Laurentian in the 80's and iirc it had a 230/235.

Its a Pontiac Lauretian 2 door sedan
How hard would it be to buy that car ? Do they sell complete cars. I collect full size Pontiacs. I have six 1966 cars and one 1964. That looked complete, but I didn't really see to much of it. Where is the yard ? I live been in Pennsylvania,in the US. Near Philadelphia. Thanks. Great video.

You can tell it was a young kid who had it...probably took the moonroof off a junkyard car..put a floor shift in it...I bet he and his friends had some good times in it....I’d love to restore it.
You are probobly correct doug.
now back in that heyday of the '80s mid-80s to the early 90s you could buy a sunroof and have down at your local warshawski or JC Whitney catalog and just put the thing in they were doing an all kinds of cars little pop-up sunroofs everywhere...
it was one of the crazes that didn't last too long because most of the time if you didn't seal the thing right it would leak like a sieve and ya drove with a towel on your head.
And the crazy irony is getting mechanical parts for a 1955-70 Canadian Pontiac big car's easier than ours south of yours. ^^^
That is crazy, not sure why?
@@pennyshotrodscustoms Cdn Ponchos were same era big Chevy based, down to the X frame from 1958-64, etc
Whatever became of this 1960 Pontiac 2dr wagon?
Well...I don’t know if this was one of GMs best sixes. The combustion chamber is bizarre, carried over from the thirties or maybe earlier. The later 230/250 c.i. sixes went more conventional.
