A lot of jobs just aren’t worth caring about. They are simply a means to an end and a complete hamster wheel grind. They often feel like purgatory and every minute there is spent thinking about your escape.
Worked at an Amazon warehouse for 7 months and it was one of the most depressing and mentally/physically draining shit by a-hole Managers and constantly being back up with packages while being understaffed for $15 an hour. I rejected a job offer that was related to my education, because it meant I’d have to commute over 2 hours to reach my workplace either way. At 34 years of age, I can no longer deal with long commutes in hot, humid conditions and unbearable passenger rush in public transport. I can still deal with working for 6-7 hours straight for a moderate paycheck, but long commutes that exceed 30 minutes are a dealbreaker for me. And I also reject places that have a 6-day workweek. I can’t bring myself to do that either sorry.
One of the worst parts of my past jobs was the commute. I think that your job should pay you for your time and gas (and wear & tear on your vehicle) spent on commuting, but they would probably laugh at that idea. When my last job wanted us to come back into the office 3 days a week and were pushing this "hybrid" remote schedule, I did it for about week and then just told them I'm full-time remote now.
@@jimmim3000 I think you made the right call. No job is worth sacrificing your mental peace or sanity. When you have to spend 4 and a half hours each day on just the commute, the job quickly becomes unbearable because it drains nearly all of your time, energy and willpower to do anything else. That was my experience at my last job and it just scarred me for life. I tolerated that for 6 months, and then finally said: Never Again.
I have always prioritized living minimalistically and comfortably with respect to my time, and I was unfortunately under the impression that I could reasonably keep this lifestyle going for me. When I worked in the early 2010s, I was able to easily cover rent and bills and also save up to buy computer parts, consoles, guitars, and other things for hobbies, even with just working part-time at minimum wage. Nowadays you can't even save up for things you like, it all has to go toward basic survival, and a lot of people have a hard time even covering those expenses. As a result, I've adopted the strategy of taking advantage of handouts, such as the food bank and rebates, while also working under the table. I laugh at anyone who criticizes this thinking I should get a normal job and pay for groceries and taxes the way things are now. The social contract between governments and the people has been severely broken, and so I am under no obligation to do that as far as I'm concerned.

management playing games with hours is a big problem at so many retail/food service jobs. You can be willing to work extra hours or take shifts from people that want less hours and management at corporate chain locations will cut back labor so they can get a bonus from the company. Then they complain to you the line worker why all the tasks can’t get done every day
Been a class A cdl driver for over 30 yrs. I have always been able to find a paycheck no matter the economic condition. That said I would guess 70% of the jobs worked at had horrible lazy management with bad ideas. I believe our current work situation is heavily to blame on most jobs being top heavy on to many middle managers trying to justify their jobs. It seems that most of the management have no leadership skills (i.e. doing the hard work along side co-workers, putting in long hours, and being responsible for those under them) or people skills. This culture needs to change, if corporate America wishes to survive as too many people are finding gig work and or just dropping out of the work force. I will pass on some wisdom that my old man told me a long, long time ago. Learn a trade you can do with your hands. When times are hard you can always fall back on it until something better comes along. I will add to that, never be afraid to quit a job in a heartbeat for a better job. Nobody has your best interests, but you.
Starting small business is another idea. But corporate America and their 9 to 5 job model makes it very hard for any low income individual to succeed. I agree with what you said, we have to change jobs when better opportunity arises. Whether you might have to learn new skills or getting a certificate. Staying at same job for 20 years is stagnant and ultimately dead end.
Find something you love and you'll never work a day in your life. This tired axiom is nothing more than a delusion. A job might be great, rewarding and fulfilling, but toxic co-workers ,even one, can turn a workplace into a hellscape. Managing unionized workers can be challenging. Make sure you know their contract (CBA). They'll likely test the new guy with petty grievances.

Challenges at work include feeling undervalued despite putting in long hours and hard work. Paychecks often don’t go far enough, especially with limited opportunities in certain geographic areas. Today's standards have shifted, and managing bills has become the central struggle. Jobs that are "not important," entry level, so essentially your "skills" are a perquisite for you to get in places.Essentially, parents often don't teach the importance of resilience, which is a crucial part of the equation. Why would you ever work just to survive? Nonsense. Printing money and inflation.
Very true. Parents that been through the struggle should absolutely teach their children life lessons they learned young. Unfortunately a lot people learn about debt by being in it. Not blaming em, but thats something I would do when they start to grow up.
Using shadow stats for real inflation, $15 per hour in 2010 is equivalent to $51.56 per hour in 2024 dollars. Or using gold as a standard, it would be somewhere around $30 per hour. Our monetary system is broken.

My boss said I just don’t think you understand capitalism. I’m about to be a Viking.
You don't understand the CURRENT ITERATION of capitalism. To make money you are either the business owner or his kids and pennies for your workers, extend this concept to the shareholders and board members. This is exactly the same as it was before Unions came in and the reason why they busted the Unions in most states.
Very good analysis on things. You seem smart enough to make things happen for you. I would suggest to move out of the system of working for someone else that will set limits on you. Become self employed in a business that can be recurring or repeatable. For instance, lawn care maintenance or window cleaning. What if you just specialize in garden clean up or hedge trimming in the landscaping business. You can also supplement one job base with another like painting house numbers on curbs. The ideas are endless because people rather pay you to do something because they are in the system of working for someone else. Also work on your exit plan with investing your money. Allow this money to make money for you while you sleep. Do not become your worse on enemy telling yourself I can’t do it. You the enemy starts looking for excuses of why you’re not good enough. The real question is “Why not you?” Winners become comfortable in winning after losing first. I believe you are a winner.
Most people (including your mom, it seems) don't understand the concept of "opportunity cost." All those hours that you're working for little pay, could go to more productive pursuits. Almost all system jobs just aren't even worth the time and energy you have to put into it. The only solution that I see is in earning an income in the underground economy, where you can get out of paying taxes easier.
Not gonna lie...I had a burgandy matchbox chevy truck when I was boy. I lost it when we moved houses, but it never left my mind or spirit. Bought a 14' Ram 3500 for 30k back in 2015 and I've taken meticulous care of it, its turned out to be the best vehicle I've ever owned and enjoyed driving (after expensive modifications). Your right about modern trucks in America, they are built for companies, contractors and corporate goons, not for average people anymore. I'd say the F150 and Ram 1500 Classic are the best value for money in deciding to buy a pickup.

Most jobs today are so unethical that I just can't take pride in any of it. Im just gonna be honest here it's hard to take pride in work when you know you are a bad guy. Almost every job in the USA is inherently exploitative and predatory, how can I take pride in any job I do when I know I am just contributing to the further decline of the world?
It's not necessarily how important a job is, it's whether or not there is a large pool of people who can fill the job. For example, a housekeeper in a hospital is vitally important, but literally anyone who is physically capable of the work can do the job and you dont need any special education, a degree or a state licence, unlike say, a nurse.
Jobs nowadays only pay just enough to barely survive and keep coming back to work. My job has a union and they still don't pay anywhere close to what is needed to keep up with the cost of living. The unfortunate truth about businesses and raising wages, is because of how premiums work with workers compensation insurance and liability insurance prevents businesses specifically small businesses from raising their wages. Premiums are based on payroll so if payroll goes up then the premiums go up and as someone who works in the business insurance industry the premiums are SUPER pricey. At the end of the day blame the state insurance boards and insurance companies for low wages. I wouldn’t blame businesses

Nowadays you can't even save up for things you like, it all has to go toward basic survival, and a lot of people have a hard time even covering those expenses. As a result, I've adopted the strategy of taking advantage of handouts, such as the food bank and rebates, while also working under the table. The real question is “Why not you?”

I woke the same as any other day
You know, I should have stayed in bed
We need to NEET real hard. Fuck these jobs no matter the payment.
Also to break the chains of fear these Stockholm syndrome people have to the system....this 'starving and homeless' stuff. They all behave like nature cannot exist without someone else putting a price tag on it.
most of these jobs feel like prisons these days, drug tests, background checks, constant micro managing, fire you because they feel like your not "fit" for their degenerate community
Especially at Walmart. F that place
I love to work. But if I can’t pay rent or buy food I’m not going to
That's understandable. Some folks who work are living in their cars or campers because they can't afford rent. It's discouraging.
@@Cerez78 lol I have a decent 25 foot class a rv. But it’s illegal to park it within 20 miles of where I live. They’re basically outlawed around here because people took advantage
Some people actually do like to work and I consider them very fortunate. You know the world is fucked when THEY get sick of it and quit.
@@devilsoffspring5519 everybody: I love your work and you should be compensated fairly
Also everybody: can you help me out bud? 😆
"A lot of jobs won't let you work full time" wow how true is that statement. These shitty retail jobs that I've worked, make sure that they never give out full time positions so they don't have to give benefits, The full time positions really suck because your getting the hours but the money is still shit and you justify it by saying, "Well the benefits are really good" In these retail jobs everyone has the wrong attitude and you're surrounded by these people. People saying oh well I got a 60 cent raise. If you're happy with a 60 cent raise you're an idiot!
So Bukowski wrote, “I have one of two choices-stay in the post office and go crazy…or stay out here and play writer and starve. I have decided to starve.”
I resonate w this quote so much bc before I was working in a warehouse making $20hr in 2018 and then I left around the pandemic bc 1)politics and 2) push into jumping in a new industry transferring previous skills and experience and passion. Jumped to pool servicing and probably most fun I’d have if I make a side hustle or career out of it. Tryna push being a water treatment technician and although I’m tryna go deeper into it but it’s hard to push something you’d see as enjoyment as a job bc “work a job you love and you’d never feel like you’re working”. I’m choosing to starve than slave away, but hunger is striking hard and can’t go on much longer
@jaleesa00 yeah, that story on how he made the decision to starve for his creative passion and his perspective on tryna decide on pursuing your passion. It paid off to him bc he was also given creative liberty to leave his office job so he can write
I work as little as I can. They still haven't fired me so I must be doing something right. Lol
Thanks for being honest!!
2 years and the biggest raise was a 50$ gift card
I don’t dream of labor; and nobody else should.
If there is a collective bargaining unit, that is the best source of power as a worker.
You are the master of your destiny. In many countries around the world, you are stuck and stuck for life. In the United States you still have an opportunity to get educated, get into a trade school and have a shot. Stay positive and stay dedicated
Don’t worry that degree would have still been worthless
It's not necessarily how important a job is, it's whether or not there is a large pool of people who can fill the job. For example, a housekeeper in a hospital is vitally important, but literally anyone who is physically capable of the work can do the job and you dont need any special education, a degree or a state licence, unlike say, a nurse.
Majority of jobs in America you can't even afford to be on your own. Doesn't pay enough so fck it
Unfortunately, something is better than nothing.
You know what's really fun? Nothing
When it rains it pours.
Jobs nowadays only pay just enough to barely survive and keep coming back to work. My job has a union and they still don't pay anywhere close to what is needed to keep up with the cost of living. They just negotiated a pay raise and it's a joke. And the contract says they can't renegotiate wages for another 3 years. All the union does is make it harder to fire bad workers.
I Been working food service in different Nursing homes almost going on 30 years.
I care about my job love what i do.
My job is to cook and serve good food to our Residents keep them happy.
I Dont Really care about the Corporate people.
That's sweet, I'm happy for u
You should have pride in your work as a Chief, make all the food with your loving energy with intent of kindness and healing. I can always taste the energy and the spiritual pressure of the souls who make my food. I can tell if they are upset or happy.
May your days always be filled with peace, harmony and serenity, Namaste.
the unknown migrants over here in calif are living high on the hog with free everything the last thing on their minds is working and paying taxes why work if you can just kick back and enjoy life.they are living the American dream for sure and enjoying every free red cent of it. I worked 35 years breaking my butt off and I am struggling to survive if I could do it over no way in hell would I be breaking my butt off for anyone.
Get certifications, learn a trade, learn skills doesn't have to be a degree. Try to find side hustles, invest. Spend less on crap and more on just basic necessities, stop buying Starbucks Netflix and new cars. Drive a used car, look poor, mimic the rich without being flashy, learn to make your money work for you.
I cared about my job as an insurance adjuster until they started to time us in the bathroom. Talk about micromanagement! Six Sigma sucks.
Is it nobody cares or is it people are bored. Jobs are full of processes, the more money you earn the more processes you do. People become bored doing the same thing day after day, year after year. You also have peoples wages not matching the cost of living.
Losers get paid the same as hustlers.
tried to goof off, could not.
only the losers, especially management stay.
And HR, posers.
The last two years my work load has doubled and I've seen my benefits gotten worse. Last raise was 2019 and since 2014 I've gotten 3 raises. Since 2022 our sales have declined due to inflation and I'm paying more for health care with less benefits. The company laid off some office staff and passed the work onto the others. Staff looks tired and lots of very unhappy co workers especially the last couple of years. We got a new CEO in 2022 and he cut a bunch of benefits we lost teledoc and employee assistance programs for mental health support. Rumor has it he said " tough up buttercup" when a HR employee called him out. Worst job I had was pepsico and the sales zone leader was a jerk and I ended up getting fired when I accidentally dropped boxes on customers foot. She called corporate and i was canned a few days later. My issue wirh food stamps is I knew a guy who had 5 kids with 3 different women . He was a bum.
I've got an idea, lets recreate the economic stagnation we had from 2008 to 2016.. by having the vice president from that era be our current president! What could go wrong?
Why care about a job if they don’t care about you?
poor baby
4:28 bro same, I still believe it. I’m 20 and Dropped out of high school and yet I still believe it😂
