What a day! Shadow brings 3 FISH 🐟🐟🐟 for Jackie! He is such a great provider! Most males do NOT bring food on a regular basis during the incubation stage. Every fish you see at this point is a bonus.
The day starts with Jackie's cute sleep chortles, her stretching, poop shot and an announcement. There are some switcheroos and a lovely meeting on a Headless Tree. We can also admire Jackie grabbing fluff from a tree and bringing it to the nest. It looks amazing! Shadow brings two large sticks🥢 to the nest and uses one of them to make Jackie leave the eggs earlier, so that he could take care of the eggies! He puts the stick on Jackie's head and her wings. Jackie finally lets him start his Daddy Duty. Jackie enjoys 3 fish and eats all of them. What is more, a Mountain Chickadee pays Shadow a short visit.

It is such a good sign they have plenty of fresh fish, unpolluted cold water source that some stays unfrozen. Nice shady tree shelter when it may get too hot later for the babies. If they can avoid ducks and other avian flu sources I have great hope for the future

@judycoyne7818 Bald eagles have over 7000 feathers and a core body temperature of about 105°F. Their outer waterproof feathers interlock over a layer of fluffy down next to their skin, which sheds water and keeps the heat in.
Their high body temperature along with their brood patch, also help keep the eggs warm (incubation temperature is about 98F).
@ I understand but seems like they spend alot of time off the eggs; if that’s the issue maybe 🤔 n the past two seasons their 4 eggs weren’t viable!?!? 🤷♀️

@jenmisskittyhooks111 Pip Watch begins on 3/1. Historically, Jackie & Shadow's eggs hatched approx. after 38-39 days. With 3 eggs, it can take a few days longer.
Shadow Looks like the type to buy a stick from home depot and come back home and complain about how it not being premium lumber

Watching Jackie today she was off the eggs for half an hour, it’s obviously cold with the winds, I hope this hasn’t affected the eggs and wonder why she is not continuously with the eggs or Shadow coming in immediately when she leaves?

What are the dark spots on Jackie’s head? I don’t remember them from last year.
@lstandish9 The smudge above Jackie's right eye appeared in late January. The exact origin is a mystery.
Where does Shadow sleep? Why aren't they in the nest together? Is it too small?
@RigidOven1970 Bald Eagles do not incubate the eggs together. Jackie incubates them during the night. Shadow sleeps in one of nearby trees, usually in the Roost Tree.

I do feel bad that the lights always on them though that it’s never dark for them I think that’s a little sad. I know we wanna know everything that’s going on, but I do think that’s a little bit much even though I enjoy that video.
@JanRoss-gm9dy Do not worry! This is an infrared light that cannot be seen by either the eagles or humans. Only the special camera lens can pick up that frequency of light to allow us to see the nest at night. ❤️
