    They also need to abolish PGE. The price of electrify is going to match the cost of cost in a couple years at this rate.

      Totally PG&E is most corrupt and when they were in their bankruptcy should have been the time that the state took advantage and gutted them. It's like 40 years of neglect and taking in massive profits, and now they pass the bill onto us. It's crazy to think you have so many other states with less densely populated areas with just as crazy geography having electric rates that are so much lower because they just kept up with it. Washington just announced a rate decrease, electricity is one of those things that should have gotten cheaper over time as our technology and efficiencies improve.

On the worst day of the summer two years ago, the grid operator sent out a statewide alarm telling people to curtail all energy use for the next few hours, and within minutes, the grid shed several megawatts of demand. Folks turned off lights, AC units, and unplugged chargers. No blackout accused, and after the sun went down, things got back to normal.

    In addition to the infrastructure, can we also start talking about dependence on lithium, how lithium is extracted, impact of lithium extraction on native environments and what happens to old batteries… just few other things we need to be talking about but we don’t. And I’m an early EV adopter. I wish I knew about all these problems with EVs before I bought mine.

    • @kitmarshall4084
      @kitmarshall4084 16 дней назад +1

      you have to take the good with the bad, do we keep running with gasoline or do we switch to lithium, the problem is that there no technology at the moment that can match the power density of lithium, of course we can use other chemistry, but they would be a size of a modern dump truck.

    • @sunpwrd
      @sunpwrd 15 дней назад

      While there is a small amount of harm caused by mining elements for batteries, that harm is minuscule compared to the harm from extracting oil, shipping it to refineries, refining it into gasoline, distributing it to gas stations in diesel-burning trucks, and then burning the gas in a car. More importantly, EV batteries are easily recycled, and the biggest company doing that, Redwood Materials, reports recovery of up to 98% of those elements for reuse in new batteries.

    How is this exactly ‘adding’ when they’re only bragging about the already existing Tesla chargers only now opened to other vehicles? I thought they’d be talking of massive new locations added for charging EVs all over the place to spread out the charging and reduce range anxiety. This will only increase wait time for the people at the Tesla locations. I bet Tesla owners are mad to share the chargers when people pull up in much cheaper EVs. 😂

    Electricity in California comes from burning natural gas, and out of state coal plants. EV's are more polluting than ICE cars, when you factor in the up front pollution that goes into the manufacture of EVs. Not too clean.
