From a kid who took the MCAS every year, i dont see the issue of it. Id prefer having a standard for our kids to meet to graduate instead of just upping the graduation numbers to look pretty. NY, FL, and WI all dropped a standard test and their grad numbers are uo, doesnt mean quality of education is tho

Who profits from the MCAS. This is a business model, not an educational enhancement. The test will still be required to 'see' performance, but won't be required for graduation. Anecdotally I have encountered many people who are great at test taking , but don't know the material and those who know the material but are terrible test takers....use the money for MASSCore.

If the MCAS isn't required for graduation and so much time was purportedly spent on test taking skills for the MCAS, what do you think the results on the MCAS will be for those schools who move away from preparation for the MCAS?

@@VictorMinchihLee My hypothesis is they could go down, since the test is not required. But stepping back a bit, is the test attempting to gauge learning outcomes for students and/or to be an index that gauges school/district success? And maybe I have overlooked something, but since MCAS was launched is there data that proves the MCAS has improved learning outcomes/school districts? And by data I don't mean MCAS scores, I guess I would want to know, are kids going to 'better' colleges: 2 year vs. 4 year, GPAs in college, graduation rates from colleges. I just believe from life experience that a standardized test is not proof of success, as people will be trained to take the test and not learn. Most colleges these days do not require the SAT for admission.

This seems like an effort by teachers who may perform poorly to hide that fact. Both debators seem to agree that MA is the best state for education, why would we want to loosen our standards now?

If we are the best state for education then we are in big trouble as a country
