Yeah, those early gifts are tough to pass on. I know turkey have pin point hearing. My wife doesn't like to get out and roam around looking for turkeys. She likes to sit in the comfort of a deer blind and let me call the turkey to us. I have to say it works great, but my point is the turkey know exactly where we are. Three seasons back for some reason the turkey were not calling much. So I was blind calling every 20 minutes or so. We were sitting there and it was just about time to send out a blind call, when a thundering gobble scared the crap out of us! It was so loud I couldn't tell where it was. I started clucking a purring and he gobbled a couple more times and he was within 20 yards of our blind. The reason for my story is the Geese (their hearing might be as good as turkey) most likely knew where (the direction) the shots came from. But there is no way to know which way they were going go when they finally got up. Back in my goose hunting days there were more days the went in the opposite direction and we never fired a shot before the left their roost area. Lm pretty sure the last of the wild geese have left our area. There has been a decent group of Speckled Bellies with a dozen Snows hanging around one big pond but I have not seen them in a day or so. The resident Canadian Geese are scattered all over our area now. I drive a school bus in the AM and do sometimes in the afternoon. I cover 140 miles in a day. I'm seeing pairs of Canadian Geese at the southern most ponds I'm passing, up to the northern most pond. I still don't missing hunting geese!😂
The ducks and geese are pretty much out of our area now. I’ve sat and observed our ponds and ducks circle and not land for no apparent reason. If I was hunting, I would be out there adjusting decoys or telling somebody to cover their face better. lol.
I have this mental image of Mrs. Boone meeting you at the door with a spray hose and a bottle of Dawn detergent saying, “not in my house,” in reference to the poop smell… Seriously tho glad y’all had a good hunt! If you go out again any chance you could show us a few tips on cleaning duck?
