This and the initial homebrew instructions, you, sir, are absolutely amazing!! And I cannot thank you enough, since I, too, also wanted to mod my 3DS since Eshop closed.
I bought a 32gb memory card because I have an old 3DS and wanted to make sure it worked. So the TL;DR for anyone in my situation is "just click and drag the files it'll be fine." Still thanks for the info bro. You showed me how to format in the first place and gave me everything I needed to start understanding this stuff.
So if it’s a 32gb card I make a new file on my computer with all the data from the old sd card, then plug in the new micro sd card, move the file data to the new sd card and put it back in my 3DS? Just wanna get this right
@@Golden87432 you're wording it a little weird. You just have to move the files from one sd card to the other and they'll work because all of the same info will be on the new one. Easier way to do this without the USB Adapter: 1. Take the sd card in your 3ds and put it into your pc. 2. Copy all the files inside that folder and make a new folder on your pc called: 3ds backup (DO NOT DELETE) or something like that 3. Paste all your 3ds files into that folder on your pc. 4. Take the sd card with more storage you want to use and put it in your pc (take the other one out) Open the 3ds folder and COPY AND PASTE DO NOT MOVE THEM COMPLETELY OUT IN CASE SOMETHING GOES WRONG! So copy and paste the files. Step 5. Once you have the files COPIED onto your bigger sd card, insert that sd card into your 3ds and all your data should be there!
Okay, but that won't work if the larger USB hasn't been formatted correctly like in the vid. The adapter doesn't do anything in the vid, he's only using it because his computer doesn't have an sd card slot. He's just showing it off because it's how he connected the sd card.

I havent done this in a while but for some folks to know from what I recall, you dont need homebrew prior to changing it to a fat32 because that only effects the MicroSd card and not the device since the Sd is now fat32. And because of that, the 3ds sees it as its normal size and not changed. Hope that helps for any new finders of this video.
I have a question. This method does work but my save files do not transfer over into the new sd card. Is there a way to import those files into the new sd card? I have alot of pokemon games downloaded but when I would open the games it would not go to my old save files. It would open as if im playing for the first time. Same goes for the themes that I have purchased and they are not there anymore. Can you please help me with this??
I'm trying to follow the same proccess with my 8 gb micro sd card but when open the format application the option for F:\ isn't available, the windows format app cant even seem to be formatting it either, is it something with my sd card? is it not compatible? its made by the same brand that came with the 3ds.
I used a SD card adapter that I had from gamestop to put the tiny sd card chip in so I didn't use a USB port. Because of this I only had the C and D option too. On file explorer the SD card adapter I used had the letter D next to it so I selected that option for the fat32 format and it worked. Also if you are using a SD card, to avoid any errors like "GetLastError()=1117" you may need to push the "lock" slider on the side to a different direction (for me it was towards the right if you hold it horizontally). Hopefully this can help, I did this for the first time too.

Hey so quick question. Would that work as a data transfer to another 3ds system? I bought another modded 3ds and it would be super helpful for me to just copy and paste everything like that
Hello, I didn't hack my 3DS but I managed to format a 64GB microSD for my NEW 3DS XL to FAT32. However, I'm thinking about moving my stuff to another 3DS. Do you know if I can I can do a system transfer with the formatted FAT32 64GB microSD card? Or do I need to downgrade to a 32GB card? If your 3ds is homebrewed, the new one your switching to needs to be homebrewed as well. But as long as your SD card is fat32 like you said, you can transfer them over
if the microSD card is formatted and recognized by your N3DSXL despite being over 32gb, it will work with a system transfer. At that point it's no different than any other flash memory.
My NEW 3DS XL isn't hacked/homebrewed. Let me explain my situation, I'd greatly appreciate any help. :( I discovered my NEW 3DS XL is from UAE/Milaysia Singapore (serial number "QS"). However, my NNID and settings are on the United States region, and I have been using the US eShop. Can I do a system transfer to a US NEW 3DS XL (serial number "W")? Also, I know absolutely nothing of these kinds of things, when I formatted the 64GB card last year, it seems to be working fine for me... I haven't had any problems on my console since. I right click on the card and look at its properties, and it's FAT32. Does that mean I formatted it correctly? Is there other ways to check if I did it correctly? I want to know that I did it correct so that I'm sure doing a system transfer is safe and I won't run into any issues. I followed sthetix's and Jack Sorrell's tutorial on YT. And I'm specifically using the "64GB SanDisk Ultra microSDXC UHS-I card" (previous generation) from Amazon. I also discovered there's only one method in doing a system transfer for the NEW 3DS XL. Will a system transfer take longer with the 64GB card? Or will it be like any other system transfer? If you know or have any experience with system transfers using cards over 32GB, pls let me know!
So I've done the GUIformat tool multiple times and ensured that the card is correctly formatted to FAT32, but as soon as I place it into my 3DS it gives me an error saying "microSD card couldn't be read/detected". Anyone have any troubleshooting tips? *EDIT:* Look in my replies for a solution if you’re having the same issue as me. Hope it helps!
I followed this guide completely, but after I booted up my 2ds, it sent my to luma3ds configurations. On my old sd card I had a splash that I installed with anemone, and no matter how many times I try to reinstall it, it never shows up
Hold select while powering system on to open that menu. Look at the splashes option and make sure the X is selected to the "before" of "after" selection on the splashes line.
i did everything you said but when i turn on my 3ds it just shows everything before i modded it? as in my software isnt there. i can still load the godmode thingy but i dont know what to do. any tips?
For those of you that did this but for some reason couldn't see the apps transferred to the new SD card. I fixed mine by doing this: I basically have to let the 3ds format the SD card first before I copy paste the backup file: 1. Format the SD card to FAT32 as usual (I do it to even on my 32gb SD card using the SD card formatter) 2. Plug the SD card into the 3ds first and let the 3ds format and install its Nintendo file in there 3. Plug the SD card back into the pc, and delete the "Nintendo 3DS" file that is in the SD card 4. copy paste the backup files into the empty SD card 5. plug back into the 3ds and the apps were all there for me Note that this worked for me and might not work for others, please do it at your own risks Remember to properly "Eject" the SD card from the computer every time you are removing it from the PC, and to "turn off" the 3DS every time you remove the SD card from the 3DS.
I put a 200GB card into mine and even after downloading some games it’s still a 999,999 always makes me chuckle when I see it

What should I do if I lose my SD card without backing up my data? my new3ds cwf. luma13.0.2
Tried this with an R4 card, this process also works for R4 cards replacing the 4GB card with 128GB
I just had a friend mod my 3DS XL, and I’m about to cram 128 gb worth of virtual console titles onto it👹
Somebody is a Ugreen fan. The ethernet to USB adapter for the Wii is also a Ugreen adapter 👍
They have good prices what can I say 😁
So I've done the GUIformat tool multiple times and ensured that the card is correctly formatted to FAT32, but as soon as I place it into my 3DS it gives me an error saying "microSD card couldn't be read/detected". Anyone have any troubleshooting tips?
*EDIT:* Look in my replies for a solution if you’re having the same issue as me. Hope it helps!
I am. I don’t understand what to do.
bro I thought you have a solution 😭😭
FYI for future peeps, if your card is 32gigs and below it is automatically a FAT32 file, so no need to convert. Just copy and paste the files :)
I followed this guide completely, but after I booted up my 2ds, it sent my to luma3ds configurations. On my old sd card I had a splash that I installed with anemone, and no matter how many times I try to reinstall it, it never shows up
And everything transferred fine to the new SD card? That is very weird. Maybe try redownloading the luma files to see if that helps
Hold select while powering system on to open that menu. Look at the splashes option and make sure the X is selected to the "before" of "after" selection on the splashes line.
@@Lucas_Dixon tried that still doesn’t work
Thanks for the vid!
so my micro sd card broke and I can’t get the files from there onto my new micro sd card sooo what do I do now?
My guy dust that PC off lmao. Keep being awesome

i did everything you said but when i turn on my 3ds it just shows everything before i modded it? as in my software isnt there. i can still load the godmode thingy but i dont know what to do. any tips?
also you can use the rpi imager and check the eraser tool and that will erase it as fat32 (i did it on a 1tb ssd and a 256gb micro sd card)
I did this exact thing and my homebrew stuff won’t transfer
Thank you very much for the walkthrough
I did this but my homebrew apps and games did not come up gm9 came on and rosealina menu came up but no games no homebrew apps
Thanks Dude !
For those of you that did this but for some reason couldn't see the apps transferred to the new SD card. I fixed mine by doing this:
I basically have to let the 3ds format the SD card first before I copy paste the backup file:
1. Format the SD card to FAT32 as usual (I do it to even on my 32gb SD card using the SD card formatter)
2. Plug the SD card into the 3ds first and let the 3ds format and install its Nintendo file in there
3. Plug the SD card back into the pc, and delete the "Nintendo 3DS" file that is in the SD card
4. copy paste the backup files into the empty SD card
5. plug back into the 3ds and the apps were all there for me
Note that this worked for me and might not work for others, please do it at your own risks
Remember to properly "Eject" the SD card from the computer every time you are removing it from the PC, and to "turn off" the 3DS every time you remove the SD card from the 3DS.
yoooo! Thank you so much. This was happening to me, you're an absolute legend. Thanks for sharing your fix!
