You will need to fill out FAFSA, but it won't be available till sometime in December. It's normally available Oct. 1st, but because of all the changes it will be delayed till December. The exact date isn't known yet.

529 is in parents name custodial to student how is this different?

Most 529 accounts have the parent as the owner and the student as the beneficiary. This is why a 529 account is considered a parent asset. The 529 is not a custodial account like a UGMA or UTMA.
