- Whole ball bearings are forge welded into a bar of 52100 steel to make a Japanese Nakiri. The force is with me, always. Anyone else get dust boogers?

I still remember when all of your work was done with a sander, a hammer and a forge way back when. its what got me into blacksmithing.
one of the best knife making channels out there.
The best knife making channel out there
Fixed it for you
Agreed
Lol 😂 love your videos man and goofy personality awesome
Certainly the most entertaining with a touch of mania and a sprinkling of A.D.D 😂🤣👊
I just love these videos so much, no extra crap, funny, not totally quite, no abnoxious music. Good stuff👍👍
Yeah, and with out all the “ umms,
yea umm, yea so and anyways”
He’s definitely a great RUclipsr/knife making Master.!!! 🤣🤣🤣
Exactly can’t stand the shitty elevator music in other vids
I like the speed holes, they cut down on wind resistance while furiously chopping.
"The three holes serve no purpose and catch even paper..." Take my money!
Easy to see why you're a legend among makers! I love that you had a slightly off-center idea and followed it to its logical conclusion.
I was a sushi chef for a decade and have seen some amazing blades; Well done sir.
If you ever need some stone for a project, get ahold of me.
Cheers bro
That final pattern is GORGEOUS, and I like the lines.
🙏
That looks like a cleaver straight from the kitchens of Khazad dûm at the height of its glory; Durin’s casual gift to his master chef, bearing the inside joke between them that forging food for hungry Dwarves was the same as forging metal - only with sharper hammers on softer anvils and much, much faster by necessity!
What a pretty, pretty piece of steel there Steve! Love your work.
Definitely one of those guys who just goes for it... and that is why I (hopefully we) appreciate the content and presentation style.
You are an inspiration my man!! You could take it easy and make pretty things all the time but you choose these hare-brained projects and see them through. Deep admiration for that grit you show constantly.
Ty, some ding dong has to do this stuff and I am that ding-dong 💪😀
THANK YOU! FINALLY SOMEONE MENTIONS THE BLACK BOOGERS!
I had an internship in a cement factory once. Grey boogers, but anything stuck in the booger did not get into the lungs, so no complaints here.
Spent the morning pounding bearings out of a hub. This may be the coolest thing I've ever seen.
The bearing cages form circles of wee anvils. Pretty cool effect.
Dwarven cutlery
Might this be one of your best? It's certainly one of your most interesting!
Hey thanks!
Awesome effect on the blade with Ball Bearings !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cool!
As a bearing engineer I'm happy to see a second life for used bearings!
Great project, interesting idea. Thanks again for an entertaining video. I think I speak for most of us when I say we prefer videos with your commentary and antics over short ones with none.
Keep up the good work!
I watched the whole video, so I must like it. The lines are like wood grain. Very cool effect.
believe it or not, i come here every once in a while just to watch this beauty. wish it was mine!
Mad blacksmith at its finest! The beat says yes😉🎵
😀
I have for the longest while, wanted to see someone forge an entire ball bearing-well in this instance three-rather than a piece. I absolutely love it. The effect is stunning and most assuredly unique. Thank you.
You got me into bladesmithing 5 years ago and we're still here going at it.
You've come a long way since your cable steel demascus :). These are some really gorgeous blades and the technical details that you've started to master are really excellent.
I feel like I've "grown up" in forging with you. So I'm glad to see you still pumping out content.
👍🙏
I'm a Nakiri enthusiast. This was great to watch, love the unique blade. Thank you!
The bearings are crazy cool in the pattern!
Shurap has some serious competition!
Such a cool idea and very well executed
I think they are the same person.
Two of my favourite channels.
This is the coolest forging thing ive ever seen. Hands down better than any layer demascus.
Jeez ..... The Editing is fantastic..... Love the journey of the informative video... Humour for free! Thank you.
Turned out pretty cool. Interesting idea too.
I used to blow boogers out of my nose like that after a day in the machine shop.
🤟
Me thinks its foooking awesome!!!!!!!!!! insane creativity as always. Thank You, in these times of darkness, you are a bright light.
Badass pattern. I love creativity.
I would love one for my kitchen!! That is the best one yet!!!😱😱
More art than useable blade, but as forge art, it's a tour de force.
Brilliant!
I've watched a man in a wooden shack making his own buckets from wood it cut manually, a man make mud and clay brick accommodation in the middle of the Australian bush, people building a mud hole in the ground house complete with a fresh water swimming pool in some Asian country, a bloke find old historic tools and items and restore them to perfect condition, a guy turn gummy bears and resin into a sword handle, numerous ways to make an oven in survival mode, knife making that puts all my manufactured knives to shame, an Aussie smelting aluminium ladders into ingots while petting his pooches and having a beer... where does the list end.
I'd never have seen any of this had it not been for youtube... how ironic.
Awesome video mate, I like that you narrate as well, a lot of people leave it up to subtitles, or your imagination ;)
This is straight up the nicest knife I have seen its beautiful its more art than knife just amazing work.
Man that looks awesome, something about using stuff people would think as trash and turning them into unique blades really does it for me
It’s cool yup
I like the more subtle look of this etch, I think it turned out great!
I retract my previous statement. That knife is flabbergastingly beautiful, and that ending was outstanding! You are amazing!
🙏
It looks straight out of a movie!
Pretty cool 👍
Dunno why but the aesthetic with these circular patterns and the holes gives the knife kind of a japanese-ish look in my eyes? Amazing blade as always, love from Austria
The marks you spoke about looks cool to me and gives it character. The ball bearings look really good...
I was in tears at the chosen irreparable damage line.
It is the way
Love it! That is amazing. So glad you took out the plugs. That really took it to the next level! Keep up the great videos!
See, this is why I'm subscribed. You push on your own boundries trying new stuff. I see you try things no one else does.
Again, well done GB, well done.
Edit- Your editing work on videos shows a lot of hard work.
I like this guy no "I'm restoring this ancient Roman cleaver I found in my backyard that's obviously been purpose rusted/aged". Just nice solid forge work
Already know its amazing before watching!!!
Eine außergewöhnliche Idee haben Sie hier exzellent umgesetzt!
Das Messer ist ein Schmuckstück geworden. Fantastisch! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Didn't think I'd like this one, but very impressed was I.
love how the bearing balls resemble anvils
My thought exactly!
Right!? When I saw the pic I was wondering how the hell he hot that pattern! Amazing how he got it for free haha
Now this is the kind of project i like to see!
Lightsaber booger gitter. Awesomeness!!!
I don’t think I’ve seen a RUclips give out so many hearts that’s awesome! Nice knife, fun editing, **slaps hood** all around great for the whole family and it won’t break the bank
haha! ty
That was awesome... Nice to see humor is still in this world... The knife is eye candy though especially with that handle... Im pretty sure it would do some slicing and dice-ing.
Very nice! Thanks for sharing all your projects with us over the years, I very much enjoy your artistic taste.
I wish good health, happiness and all the best to you and yours!
And to you
Still one of the best to watch. Wish you posted more.
It truly is a piece of art and beautiful piece even if you didn't intend on it to look the way it did
Haven't watched it yet but I know I'm gonna love it just have to get out of work first
It has a very ancient Japanese look to it. Looks great!
That is an interesting way to forge in the bearings! I was waiting for that uber satisfying moment when the centers would just POP out. But that not happening did give me the chance to post my habitual "well that's a kick in the ole wrinkle beans" comment.
I have never seen someone do a forge weld like that. Really interesting.
I think its pretty cool to see how far youve come. I have been watching since mid 2015 and maybe a touch earlier. I really enjoy your content, Steve. Merry Christmas to you.
Ty and merry Christmas
Crazy cool!
Steve you blow my mind with your creative nature! Liked the editing here also! Really top notch! The dowel pin in the handle trick was a new one for me! A+
Absolutely beautiful blade I love the markings in the middle of the bearings
Well that's an awesome blade! Thank you for sharing. Keep up the great work. Please post more videos!
This may be my favorite knife so far. I think you should make a canister billet using just offcuts and "practice" knives
Another stunning piece of work! It’s been amazing watching you grow as a smith, and a real inspiration to those like me who are just getting started on their smithing journey!!
Looks good, and i love the bit of humor at the end
Man, I love that etch. Just want to say you have gotten really good at sanding over the years I have watched you. That is something I need to work on more.
Beautiful knight, even better working video. Really well explained, i learned alot!
That is super cool and unique. I love how the bearing spacers form a pattern.
Nice Knife, may the force be with you.
Best surprise I've had all day. And I want the light Saber
It turned out great looking! I also thoroughly enjoyed all editing you put into this video
🙏
Such beautiful pattern. I'd love to try it myself
This is one of most epic knife making videos I ever seen!! )
Your fails are cooler than most everyone else’s successes
Man, you are too hard on yourself. That blade looks dope as hell.
That also why the blade looks so good.
That's the best use of a light saber finger or saber finger that I've ever seen lol. Also that knife looks amazing
Now that's a hell of a cool concept
Absolutely stunning as always mate
You make some of the coolest knives, I wish I could afford one from you for my hunting knife.
Turned out pretty badass, well done man.
That was crazy wild. Personally, I would have done the same as you. What a fantastic job on the handle. If you don't take a chance, you'll always sit back and wonder...what would have happened. 👍👍👍
That is an awesome project and a wonderful knife. If the holes interfere turn some damascus disks or cast some handle-colored- resin in them.
that is absolutely gorgeous!
What do I think?
Your Ideas are great....and endless. That is the beautiful thing about knife making.
Christ Bless!
Much much thanks
That came out top notch!
There's just something about that one I really dig!
Ahhhh the black boogers from sanding and sanding and sanding and sanding and sanding.... and sanding.
Someone got it! 🤛
Green Beetle yes sir. I do some knife making myself (just stock removal don’t have an anvil etc to forge) so I’m familiar with the black snot rockets into the sink after a few hours in the shop.
Awesome cool ball bearing nakiri knife.
its an experiment, and it worked, love it!
Very cool, if you bevel the edges of the holes they will snag much less! looks amazing.
commentary is way better than just watching a knife speedbuild
Functional schmunctional...this may well be the coolest design of a knife I've ever seen on the interwebs...and I'm the grease monkey who shipped you that can! Way cool! Excellent work as always!
🙏 Heheh ty for all deez greasy balls!
Haha love the lightcleaver. Wasn’t expecting that, nice touch!
fine craftsmanship
And again a crazy cool project, ur killing it!! Keep up what ur doing 👍
I love the finished blade. Btw I'm half asleep and your finger saber made me jump
🤛
Dude.... This knife is totally awesome, I love the look of the circles and how the ball bearings kind of turned in to almost a Japanese lettering look..... Very cool.
And that handle..... C'mon man, so so cool.
You killed this project. It may not work good but damn it man it looks great.
Nice job sir.... Nice job 👍😎👍
