Great film. We've had three born on our roof this summer too. One fell off the roof last week and we had the whole "seagull nation" as i call it flying around our large front garden keeping an eye on it. Worried abut foxes we eventually (against the advice of local bird group i may add) popped it back on our patio roof from where it managed to reach its family again. Sweet thing almost seemed thankful. Its parents made a hell of a racket for ages . All quiet now and just waiting for them to fledge. The 'seagull triplets' are almost ready to fly. Amazing long lived birds and very intelligent. Very misunderstood by humans. They're not vermin but avian sentient beings who have amazing caring abilities fo r their young . Also amazed to read that their numbers have decreased by 50% in twenty years!. Brilliant film . Thanks
Thanks for your video .Gulls are wonderful and you have shown the devoted parents and the amazing development of the young birds beautifully.Their calls are amazing .. . I agree with another here that a gull documentary would be a treat 👍☀️
Great vid. Nice to see someone else who appreciates one of our most common birds. As numbers of these birds dwindle across the world its important to keep our guys doing well. 👍 Really enjoyed this vid.
Beautiful video! Thanks for sharing this! The Herring Gulls also live here at the Jersey Shore! My favorite is the Laughing Gulls who live a little bit more in land than the Herring Gulls ! Love these birds!
Imagine then having one home, and have the time and be able to rise him ;) 4 days ago my rescued baby gull flew away. And came back 2 days later on my balcon.... I swear. Im still in shock, it happened yesterday.. He just walked into my lliving room 🤣 He ate and is sleeping now... What a weird gull :) I dont know what to do with him now :) He acts almost like a dog!
Thank you for this video. I had no idea they remained dependant on their parents for six months. I've also heard that the parents won't feed them junk during their formative weeks.
Thanks for posting this. I found your video because I’ve just rescued a chick that fell out of its nest, and I anted to know what to expect. Unfortunately , I had to remove her from the ground because my neighbourhood is overrun with feral cats, and the chick wouldn’t have survived the night. From your video, I reckon she/he is about 2-3 weeks old. I’m in touch with a gull rescue charity, who are telling me how to care for the chick until she can go to their sanctuary. Thanks again for your interesting and instructive video.
I got two seagull on the roof, unfortunately their mom might have died in fishing trip so its only the father there. so I help out with food. they are pretty cool birds.
Gulls nest on my roof sometimes. It is a nuisance because they don't like me going into the garden to water my plants and pick raspberries. One chick fell off the roof yesterday and got injured so I took it to a wildlife centre but they hate me even more now! I stole their baby! I think it was a bit too small though I don't know if it was developing properly or if it was just late hatching compared to the chicks I see on the roof across the way. I get my binoculars and I can count the chicks and watch them learning to fly.
i noticed that whenever there is a fledgling on a roof i see at least four adults flying and watching near by... so the parents help them and the others keep an eye on them to help?
Thanks to this video I’ve found out the grounded baby outside my building is about 4 or 5 weeks old… so hopefully it starts to fly soon as it’s managed to survive on the floor for about a week now. Mainly just so I don’t get swooped down upon by the parents every time I leave.
we got a family of four at the construction site, and they all have got used to us they do not look at us like any danger anymore, but we watch where set things so we don't hurt them, but people that do not belong at the site get it, same with dogs and other birds, it is kind of strange :D
Great video! A have a nest on my roof too, but I can't see much because it's a flat roof. It's pretty dangerous to be in my garden when it's getting dark, mum and dad seagull don't like that.....they scream and attack you by diving from the roof and flying close over your head :'-) I love those birds, looking forward to see those little grey fluf balls.
for two days there was a fledgling that flew on our roof and one of the parents was with it i was scared to go out in our balcony i know how protective the parents are they are amazing birds though
The little fluff balls (2, as far as I can see) are already as big as mum and dad, and 1 is sitting in my garden, screaming like a donkey when it's hungry :'-)

And to be honest, it’s pretty cool and interesting having a species nesting and starting a generation on your house, also if you want to see something dirty, just look into a mirror, though you might get 7 years bad luck from doing so, cuz a crack might occur if you look into it hard enough

When do seagulls actually become independent from their parents?
They will be seen begging for food from the parent for about six months after fledging, then By their first winter they should be self sufficient.
The title doesn't quite make sense. But great video. 👍
If you saw a seagull chick before you watched this, would you know what it was? Well you might if you saw one of the parents.
