I liked the Simpsons one but I do wish that Bart and Marge had been a little more recognizable. Like Homer is legit, Maggy would be hard being a baby so I respect that, Santas Little Helper is a great one as well and while Lisa doesn't necessarily look exactly like Lisa she's close enough while still being in an anime style to be recognizable. But Bart and Marge could literally just be any random character from any random anime, especially Bart, if they didn't have the Simpsons paraphernalia next to them you'd have NO clue who they were supposed to be. Definitely wholesome though.
To be fair, these artists had the ability to reject your request if they felt too uncomfortable with it. They could have done so very easily but they accepted it anyway. So don't feel bad about them having cursed art in their portfolio. They chose to have that art in their portfolio so it's all on them.

The Simspons picture gives me Earthbound vibes. You can tell the Avatar artist really enjoyed drawing the gang just hanging. I wonder how popular these shows are in Japan.
I feel like the Simpsons one did a really good job of translating all of the characters energies to an anime style. i.e Homer still looks dopey but caring and Lisa still looks slightly uptight.
Joey: "maggie looks like a baby" Me: "....no shit" Also, I don't know if i'm overthinking things, but iirc in the simpsons there is an episode revealing that Bart's hair is actually red but turns Yellow because of the sun, if the artist knew that and put this in the drawing then he will have a lot of my respect, but like i said i could be overthinking
In the first season, that was actually his character, before they made him more and more a total moron. Dopey but caring. Also that drawing was the one I liked the most of them all. Really wholesome and calming to look at.
weeks later, Joey's spongebob art is still their only work lol; that or I filtered out nsfw Genuinely surprised the Rick and Morty artist didn't deny it, cause as a weaker artist I saw that arm and went "nope, pay more." But it came out really cool! And they angled the gun in a way that doesn't make artists cry
Aw, maybe now they have more request after this vid. Yeah Im no artist but that looks painful, this is coming from a someone who is absymal at drawing.
First off, the Rick one? I need a poster of that!!! Dude, that is the sickest thing ever! Someone needs to hire that artist yesterday!!! The Simpsons one was really nice, great detail! Same with the Avatar one! Tom & Jerry, that needs to be an anime because it was just too adorable! And the Sponge Bob one… Remember the episode where Squidward gets hit in the face and becomes pretty? That’s what it reminded me of and I couldn’t stop laughing! 😂
Timmy is in a trashcan and he has a universal symbol of cartoon trash (a fish skeleton) in his mouth. That artist knows you and your podcast mr.anime man.
I agree! Who says what hair color Bart, Lisa, and Maggie have? Their hair is an extension of their yellow faces/bodies. Good for the artist for using their imagination!
The Simpsons doesn't look cursed to me at all. It's comes across so warm and soft. Rick one also looks super sick. I follow a lot of people that get Skebs on Twitter. Skeb is packed with such talented people.
1. Timmy: Looks like a sub shota 2. Spongebob and Squidward: looks like "what if squidward invite spongebob more often" scenario. 3. Tom and Jerry: childhood friends at the same home 4: avatar: "now everybody can shut up about cartoon or anime debate" 5. The Simpsons: anime sitcom 6: Rick: Evil Morty's Rick
Yes, (artist here) i personally felt attacked when he mentioned commissioning the simpsons one. Imagine turning THAT into anime. The artist did a good job though!
If anyone's interested, the artist that did the Simpsons also drew a BL oneshot manga called "Oshiri kara dasu tokoro zero kyori de mitte hoshii". It's lowkey weird but also wholesome. ^^
For real though, artists have it rough. Not only are they underappreciated but art being non subjective means they really have to be able to recognize their own talent because there's no "test" for good art. Being able to recognize one's own strengths is often people's biggest weakness so without a good support system a lot of really talented people never pursue it.

I think they picked a perfect realistic hair style for Bart and Lisa. Homer's eyes are what makes it kinda cursed for me, but if you look at the original Homer he kinda has that goofy cursed look too.
That’s one of the best things about skeb artists. They are so nice and wholesome that sometimes they will make extra arts or cute little chinos as thanks for commissioning them.

I would love if Joey would get in touch with the artists again and do like a mini interview, just asking if they already knew the show, why they did certain things, etc 🥺
That was fun! I just wanted to mention that digital art is also hand drawn. Just on a tablet or wacom instead of paper. There they can work with layers and add effects. It's just an other technique. Analog art appears very charming and native here. I loved it! Thank you joey!
i was going to say! im a digital artist and i've definitely gotten comments like that before, and they kinda get under my skin a little not that i think joey was being malicious or anything! but i've certainly met people who think that digital art is generated by a computer, think its not real art, etc., and haven't exactly been the nicest about it :')

If we ever get a Rick and Morty anime adaptation, Rick will probably become the most badass character in Western Anime.
Ironically the Simpsons look LESS anime-fied in the drawing. Normal, human hair colors, absolutely no radical gravity defying molded hairstyles, and very tame color pallet compared to the original. That dog thoooo 😭soo cute
Yooo that Simpson one was siickk. I really like their art style! Artist made some logical choices in portraying them [anime style Bart's hair is a mix of Homer's blonde and Marge's purple hair]. It's so wholesome too.
I was cringing at the wind-up for the simpsons one, then just floored with how great the art was. Cant even say "cursed", genuine amazing takes on the characters.
I also found it amazing, because the clothes and hair of the family was drawn in a way the fashion (clothes and hair) in Japan looked in the very late 80's, when the show started. That was very thoughtful. Also someone else in the comments pointed out, that the look on Homer's face was dopey but caring. And I thought, that was how his character had been at the very start of the series, before they made him more and more a complete moron.
The Simpsons one has a lovely soft 1980s watercolour look too it, like Cipher or Seizo "Heart Cocktail" Watase's work, basically it looks like an anime Kenny Lauderdale would spotlight on his channel.
The detail in the Avatar one blew me away, really love seeing artist get love in videos like this, also the Tom and Jerry and Simpsons pieces are wholesome AF
He also took rates that were probably for art with one character in it, and asked for whole families to be drawn...so I can see why they canceled. Someones gotta tell him how art rates tend to work.
Joey, sweetheart, please for the love of god go back to the Spongebob artist and have them draw you something else so their portfolio has a serious artwork as well haha. Fun fact: The Japanese word アニメ ("anime") actually includes all forms of cartoon art from all countries. So if you ask for an "Anime" shirt in a Japanese clothing store, you have to specify what kind of "anime" you mean or you will be guided to a section of Marvel-themed shirts. *DISCLAIMER:* *THIS IS DEFINITELY NOT BASED ON REAL EVENTS!*

I’ve been drawing traditional for 10 years and picked up digital a couple years back; I can safely say that if I hadn’t done traditional beforehand, my digital drawings would not be anywhere near their current level. The only real advantage to digital (for me at least) is your freedom to delete/correct your mistakes
I was suffering from the cursed ness until the Tom and Jerry one came up THEY WERE SO CUTEEE blessed my eyes, cleaned my soul. Despite my scare I really liked the Simpson one too, it was so cute and I really like how they turned the characters more realistic ! The style was super cool too. They were my two faves ! ✨♥️
I really hope he makes this a series, I’d love to see more
The Tom and Jerry were impressive, they are even close to the Jr. versions.
i would like the children look younger, they should be 10 and 8, but here something like 14
I liked the Simpsons one but I do wish that Bart and Marge had been a little more recognizable.

Imagine if they animated some of the disney movies like snow white and cinderella
Doesn't beat the Tom and Jerry one lmao. Someone needs to pick it up for a series

Also, I don't know if i'm overthinking things, but iirc in the simpsons there is an episode revealing that Bart's hair is actually red but turns Yellow because of the sun, if the artist knew that and put this in the drawing then he will have a lot of my respect, but like i said i could be overthinking
In the first season, that was actually his character, before they made him more and more a total moron. Dopey but caring. Also that drawing was the one I liked the most of them all. Really wholesome and calming to look at.

For real though, artists have it rough. Not only are they underappreciated but art being non subjective means they really have to be able to recognize their own talent because there's no "test" for good art.
Being able to recognize one's own strengths is often people's biggest weakness so without a good support system a lot of really talented people never pursue it.

I also found it amazing, because the clothes and hair of the family was drawn in a way the fashion (clothes and hair) in Japan looked in the very late 80's, when the show started.
