      Primes don’t party vs prime playing a game of basketball and later spinning it on his finger while on com duty.
      I think the reason why prime became so stoic in later versions is cause the Bay films seem to have taken most of his characterization from the The Transformers The Movie….a film where he had relatively little screen time and was only in “battle mode” or dying.

      @@zxtreme31 It may have taken inspiration from the movies but TF Prime is leagues better written than the murder crazed movie version.
      I mean if you were a regular person (even a soldier) G1's attitude fits, his autobots are his family on and off the battlefield.
      But in context of modern interpretations he's been a leader and soldier for eons fighting megatron (with losses and deaths), he doesn't party cause he wants to ensure that others can like some war veteran that can't easily relax.
      But TF Prime has downtime too, he likes to go on drives from what tidbits we get.
      And he's got emotions we see that often, he just prefers to restrain himself.

      I think Prime should be able to be both.
      Stoicism is important during hardship, but is pointless when everything is okay.
      An Optimus who takes the time to relish in what few moments of peace the Autobots have doesn't need to be seperate from an Optimus that stays calm and collected under the stress of a war.

    Optimus in TFP was a responsible leader. He said he hoped to find a peaceful solution, but Megatron constantly rebuffed his attempts to do so with his many atrocities. He wasn't being insincere, he was being realistic. He couldn't put his moral sensibilities above his duty to protect his people.

      @@RoadRustle dude you showed that clip out of context and in a manipulative way
      TFP OPtimus was NOT one note and was NOT perfect at all
      he was really flawed TFP much like the bay films took a more realistic approach to warfare
      yeah no i disagree when you said that peace attempts are more realistic no they ain't especially for the TFP series where the war had gone on for so long that both sides where just beyond reason and peace was just not an option anymore not after Megatron had slaughtered millions apon millions of Primes troops there comes a time where you have to come to terms with the fact that Autobots and decepticons can never live in peace forever and Optimus in TFP had realized this had accepted it. Energon was a perfect example of this.

    • @RoadRustle
      @RoadRustle  4 года назад +15

      @@michaelkean5969
      A) I haven't "manipulated" anyone. Clip 1 showed Optimus showing hesitance to kill. Clip 2 showed him having no hesitance to kill. These clips happen within a span of a two episodes at the beginning of Season 1 when he does not come to that realization yet, which happens towards the end of S1 One Shall Fall. He's supposed to be trying for peace before that. So he's saying "I want peace" which is consistently with his character arc but he uses language of "removing heads" which is NOT consistent and makes the "I want peace" part insincere.
      B) Two sides fighting, getting engaged in peace talks every now and then, and then returning to fighting when the talks fail repeatedly seems more realistic to me than "let's fight fight fight for millions of years" with no cooldown period.
      Yes, Megatron destroyed Cybertron with his war but Optimus would not want to wage war where more and more lives, human, Autobot, alien, or otherwise, are killed if there was a 1% chance that a positive peace of freedom, equality, and justice where people can talk things out instead was possible. He tries for it over and over. Megatron wants peace too but a negative peace of "peace through tyranny."
      His wanting to crack that one try, his holding onto that hope, makes him compelling as a character as well. You might find it flawed and so it's a flaw to you. But this struggle for positive peace is a big part of what makes him more than "standard good guy."

      @@RoadRustle If we only had the events of the show to go off of, I'd see things your way, but it's made clear that the Autobots and Decepticons had eons of war behind them in which Megatron committed hideous war crimes like chemical warfare (ToxEn), biological warfare (Cybonic Plague), not to mention making Cybertron completely uninhabitable for anyone. I think after all that, they were pretty far beyond the possibility of a diplomatic resolution. That Optimus even tried beyond that point makes him practically saint-like in my books.

      Interestingly enough, that version of Optimus Prime would go out of his way on several occasions to take down Megatron by himself- and would never quite succeed despite getting so very close to doing so. It was also the only time Optimus was ever really out for blood.

    • @HenryLouis21
      @HenryLouis21 4 года назад +9

      Michael Kean The Bayfilms are in no way realistic, the way they portrayed Optimus was just having him fucking killing Decepticons left and right. Even executing a defenseless combatant, which in real world standards is a war crime to say the least. Having an icon just suddenly turn into a psychopathic killer is in no way realistic. And nor does the Bay films ever portray warfare in a realistic way either.

    IDW Prime is my favorite in terms of character. We got to see what he was like as Orion Pax. He was idealistic, Naive. He matured, and even after he became Optimus Prime, he still loses his temper quite a bit. In combiner wars, the other Transformers deified him and he made it abundantly clear how much he hated that and grew to resent the title of Prime, as it came with the stigma of corruption and failure. That is MY Optimus Prime.

      In a sense I agree, but mostly in how Optimus is seen. Optimus Prime shouldn’t be absolutely perfect in any sense, but he does know how to be a good leader and inspire others. Just like Superman - there are character flaws you can give him, but it should always come back to that he always tries to make the right choice. It’s why plenty of his bad decisions in like Armada or Cybertron come off as in character while the flaws in the Movies are completely out of character.

    I would LOVE to have a Cyberverse prequel where we explore more of this side of Optimus, maybe even tangled with his relationship with Megs. Hell, they could have actually taught each other how to be leaders
    Just imagine it: one provervial day on Cybertron, the mighty gladiator Megatron is eager to develop his ideals and change Cybertronian culture from its roots. But for that, he needs knowledge, so he heads to the library. Upon entering, he stumbles with a big red bot, tought enough to knock both of them down. Megatron is lighly amused, but when both get up, the other bot quickly apologizes in a timid manner and runs off.
    Nevertheless, Megatron resumes his quest. He picks a title he feels has what he needs, and starts reading it. Except...he doesn't understand it. At all. Ever more frustrated, the gladiator starts complaining out loud until he hears a voice behind him.
    "Um, excuse me?"
    Out of reflex, Megatron quickly throws a punch. But the bot, the same as before, is only moved slighly instead of being blown away, to Megatron's surprise. "Please keep quiet inside the library" said the bot, again timidly. "If you need any assistance, I'd be happy to help"
    A still confused Megatron looks to his reading. "I can't understand any of this! Can you?". The bot answer quietly "That is a complex title, but...yes. i have read it before. Would you like me to explain". Megatron smiles. "By all means, please share your wisdom with me". The two then spend cycles together in the library, with Megatron paying much attention to the bot's explanation.
    Before leaving, Megatron puts his hand on the bot's shoulder. "Thank you, my friend! I will be coming here again. May I ask for your name?". The bot replies as quietly as ever "My name... is Orion/Optimus". Megs then continues "Well, have more confidence in yourself, Orion/Optimus! You are a strong bot, I know that for sure. If you ever come to Kaon's pits, I could show you a thing or two. Till we meet again, friend". Orion/Optimus takes his hand "Till we meet again"

    Honestly, Optimus' more violent nature in Prime was pretty much explained. The guy tried for millions of years. By the time they're on Earth, he's just tired and fed up. He's been going on a wild goose chase for so long he just cant keep trying to convince Megatron to pursue peace anymore.
    His more humble nature is also depicted when he reverted to Orion Pax. He too wanted to try to convince Megatron to consider peaceful options. But then he regained his memories through Vector Sigma and remembered how he literally could not be bothered anymore. The stakes were higher. He was on a foreign planet where the safety of its inhabitants depended on him.
    Also, I'm pretty sure that Primes not partying was just a joke. I mean Orion was a humble librarian. He liked his books more than anything else. And as someone who has had to lead and be on the frontlines of war for eons, that disillusionment towards society takes a hold.
    I guess what I'm trying to say is that Aligned Prime is the most... mentally burdened out of all of them.

Prime Is a fatherly figure, a real one, he fights, he goes mad, he plays, he listens and studies, and if Is necessary he Will leave the Decepticons troops beyond repair if he haves to. There's a reason why Prime means Optimus and not Rodimus, or Sentinel or Solus or Megatronus. He Is the embodiment of what a Prime Is.

    I'll be honest I used to hate this version of Optimus. By Season 3 he's outclassed by Megatron in terms of achievements and tactical thinking. But your vid made me see him in a new light, and while I still don't care for how he gets shafted in season 3 or how his VA is trying *way* too hard to sound like Peter Cullen, I can appreciate how unique he is and hope that whatever form he takes next generation has a bit of this introvert in him.

    • @DokturProfesur
      @DokturProfesur 4 года назад +12

      To be fair to the actor, Peter Cullen is an immensely tough act to follow, and we've only had a handful lend their voices to Optimus so it's not like there's a precedent for varied performances like the other transformers. There was probably a lot of pressure on him from within, as well as his voice directors, to put on a performance like Peter. I don't envy his position, but he does a great job I think, and hopefully as time goes on he's allowed to inject more of himself into Prime.

    So basically Jonathan Joestar, then? Totally agree though. I was skeptical of Cyberverse at first, but as I watched more of it I enjoyed it a lot. And from what I gathered some of G1, it was really inspired by it, more so than any other version. G1 had its silliness and camp, a product of being in the 80s, like Optimus playing basketball and surfing. Cyberverse does too while balancing with the seriousness as well.

    thing) at least g1 Prime managed to hangout with his companions sometimes and Animated was trying to understand about a few fun activities on earth but Cyberverse definitely took it a step further.

    Transformers Prime Optimus also has his share of flaws and character growth. He had been criticized for not ending Megatron to end the war when he had many chances to because of his morals as well as not having the guts to pull the trigger. This led to Cybertron falling to ruin because they continued fighting.
    When they were surrounded by Insecticons on Earth, Optimus showed real growth when he acknowledged his mistake and showed that he had courage from then on to pull the trigger and kill Megatron.
    In the Prime movie, Optimus saw Megatron change and realized that he shouldn't be as pessimistic as he became, but rather become his optimistic self again. He realizes that life isn't that simple, that you have to make tough choices, but you can't lose hope either, that you have to be optimistic that people do have the capacity for change and become better.

    I'd have to disagree on TFP's Optimus being insincere as there is way too much history of conflict between them in the aligned continuity, at this point he was at the end of it and simply had to do what was needed as Megatron has shown too stubborn and the cost of waiting and defending against the Decepticons was too high as Ratchet said under SynthEn.

Your insinserity example for instance, you first put a clip from Transformers Prime, S1 EP06 Masters and Students, then right after that you put a clip from S1 EP05, Darkness Rising Part 5. That being said in Tranaformers Cyberverse when the Autobots & Decepticons had that brief truce, was only because both parties wanted to stop Starscream who was in possession of the AllSpark...which also happened in Transformers Prime. Only there it was to stop the "Chaos Bringer". But overall Cyberverse ver. Optimus is such a nice change of pace. I was wondering when someone would do a video on it. Good job mate!

    Love how you spin out that part in prime to ride your point of he dont want to kill megatron and then say he want to cut his head.....nice....if that was like that, the second clip is from THS START OF THE PRIME SERIES, and you took it very out oc context, Optimus reason with Megatron several times in the show and show case that he really dont want to kill megatron, only chooses when Megs go too extreme or the situation make him conflict, this was a very manipulated way to drive your point like Prime version of Optimus was some sort of psycho and a lair, when it was far from who he was in the show, not that I not agree that he still was bit too perfect, but he have been like that since G1 so big deal, I prefer Prime over Cyberverse any day.

      I said "I love this Optimus" -> why would I say that if I thought he was a psycho and a liar?
      Clip 1 showed Optimus showing hesitance to kill ("A small part wanted to change his mind"). Clip 2 showed him having no hesitance to kill ("derail its objective by removing its head" -> does not sound like any part wants to not kill). These clips happen within a span of a two episodes at the beginning of Season 1 when he does not come to that realization yet, which happens towards the end of S1 One Shall Fall. He's supposed to be trying for peace before that. So he's saying "I want peace" which is consistent with his character arc but he uses language of "removing heads" which is NOT consistent and THAT makes the "I want peace" part insincere to me.

    You raise some excellent points, and I agree for a lot of it. But understand that in Transformers Prime, and in war in general, peace talks happen very rarely. The cold, hard reality of war, especially when dealing with characters like Megatron, is that Optimus had to be ready to take that ultimate step if it was needed and literally 'remove' the head of his greatest opposition. I got the impression through different media related to TFP that Optimus had tried multiple times to have TFP's versions of 'peace talks' in the past, but Megatron in TFP was somewhat crazy, mainly because of the use of dark energon.
    I also disliked the notion that 'Primes don't party' in TFP. That was most unlike the Prime I remembered in G1. I remember an Optimus was kind and insightful, and tried to comfort Spike when Sparkplug was captured by the Decepticons and brainwashed by Dr. Arkeville to serve the Decepticons. There was a moment when he was duped into pulling Cybertron towards Earth to save his home world and he had regretted that choice. The peace talks in Cyberverse felt too 'leftish' to me as though talking is the only way to bring peace. In reality, especially in war, that's very rarely the case.
    Still, as much as I hate the voice acting . . . and the very childish story telling in the sense that it is meant for younger viewers, I do like some of the more humbling moments they gave Optimus. It's kinda what I wish they had done for TFP...as I already mentioned. Optimus WOULD have partied with the Autobots when Wheeljack came to base, maybe not to the extent of getting up and dancing, but he would have at least been there. I imagine an Optimus that has the nobility and calm of TFP Prime, but the humble, good natured and almost playful nature of G1 Prime.
