I've owned a 3rd gen for 20 years and did a complete ground up rebuild. Your videos are concise, detailed, and my go to reference now. Thank you for all the work you put into them.
Using this video to remove mine tomorrow. Thank you for the amazing details and making this.
Thank you!🙂
Awesome, about how long does that take? It is very straight forward, so thank you for all the accurate information...you are about the only site that is so concise!:) Cheers!
you can drop a 700r4 in a day or less depending on the car.
thank you for a detailed info on this i havea 1996 f100 truck i be doing i plan to use a lot of your info in this video to help me out i know a little and a few that i know said its a easy one to remove. my issus is putting another one in .i plan to use the stack wood idea you have in the video.
the harbor freight transmission jack makes thigs WAY easier.
Also thank you so much for this video I never worked on a tranny and felt at ease watching u disassemble this beast, I did a whole top end rebuild on my 305 tpi and on first warm up the front pump seal burst leaking between the torque converter and the tranny, gonna try my luck taking this bitch out lmao
Excellent!
Great video but having issues reaching the top two bolts on the bell housing. Even with extensions and everything i cant get those bolts off. Anyone have advice?
I'm in the same exact boat right now. I can't even see them
Great detailed video
You should put links to the upgrades u recommended in this video
Ooo, ‘99 Sonoma/S10 4.3L converter, 4L70E servo

I need help bypassing a 1992 camaro rs 25th anniversary smog pump. 305 v8
Any tips On removing the reluctor drive gear for electronic VSS?
I have a full video on it.

Lowering the jack after unbolting the cross member while still attached to the engine doesn’t cause any problems, I would think it would put the front end in a bind
as long as you don't hit the firewall with the distributor, it's fine
What were all the tools required ?
Long extensions mostly.
i Usually don't list the tools because often times these videos take 2-3 weeks at a time.
I would recommend a cheap transmission jack though.
Way off topic. Anyone can tell me which seat belt is longer? The driver or passenger? Im talking about the part thats bolted to the floor near the console
At 1:21 you unplugged a wiring harness from above the transmission. I have that same harness on my Camaro, but it's just hanging there in mid air, not connected to anything. Can you tell me what that harness is for? Thanks
that would be the later electronic speed sensor plug.
the 2pin: speedo plug
4 pin: torque converter lock up.
i just removed the engine and tranny from my 3rd gen, after removing the torque arm from the tranny side i left it still attached at the rear end. it is ok to roll the car in and out of the garage with the torque arm like that? i used ur vid as a guide btw so thank you!
if you push it around it's fine.
don't drive the car with the torque arm disconnected though.
@@3rdGenGuy ok cool, thanks man love the vids
I have some sort of leaking between the transmission and the engine and was told it's some sort of seal that needs replacing, anyone ever do this kind of replacement fix?? Hoping for some advice...
Hey Drakoz, you might have rear valve covers or rear main seal, rear cam plugs leaking. If you have an older Camaro you will need to pull the trans just to get a good look at what is leaking. I paid a shop to tell me what it was leaking but they said I needed to pull the Transmission and see, I am currently doing this on my 1994 Camaro. It's not so bad if you can afford the correct jacks and tools. Good luck man.
@@briannewton4803 it was for a 1985 Trans am. Sorry for the late correction response lol
Interesting, this insinuates that you are going to reuse your 700R4 with your LS swap? Enjoy your vids, gorgeous car.
This is an old video from years ago, he’s having to repost all his old videos because they were taken down
@@admac5657 Ok, I wondered what was going on, thanks for the info.
no way! that 700r4 couldn't even shift well under 305 power
@@3rdGenGuy that trans is weak but could be upgraded slightly but if you put a 350 in it with 250hp and a stall converter and decent gears it would be fine just put a huge trans cooler on and bigger pan
just curious how much of this process Im going to have to do to change my flexplate
You have to take out the transmission to put a new flex plate
no you dont,I just had to unbolt it,take out drive shaft and crossmember then lower it enough to slide it back for clearance. This is kind of what I was referring to,if I could get away with just lowring it without having to pull whole thing, answr was yes,did it lst summer been fine since.
Hey bud I’m looking to drop my 700r4 from my 85 corvette, other than body specific things do you know if it’s still about the same process?
same transmission, but i'm not familiar with C4 corvettes.
where do you put your jack stands
under the subframe connectors if you have them.
if not, the boxed frames.
if you are unsure, google "3rd gen jacking points" there's a few pics online of where to jack from.
DO NOT jack from the pinch welds.
Weird, first step in the vid is different with my driveshaft. Mine is blocked by a large metal pc running to my transmission.
old cars and a 10 year production can cause some differences.
@@3rdGenGuy Yes, I dont have the plugs either but the rest of the video has helped me remove my transmission so thank you.
Did you have to support the engine or no?
it's recommended you use a block or something to keep the engine from tipping back. it can possibly crack a distributor cap if it leans against the firewall too hard.
@@3rdGenGuy yeah I figured, I don't have that much wood though lol, I'll prolly use car tires and smaller pieces of wood to support. Redneck the frick out of it
@@thedornanfam-blogsplusmore8510
Just use a cheap jack with rollers on it, with a flat but thick piece of wood under the oil pan. This way in case you need to adjust the height of engine when reinstalling the trans, it’s easy. Good luck…
@Street Lethal Yeah I already removed it easily, impact and extension bars to get the bell housing bolts and used a scissor jack for the engine
What size is the TV cable TB
on a 1992 Camaro, I don't remember the length.
Cool, I meant to put size boot, it’s a 10mm
Gotta go standard trans
I have a T56 Magnum-F in my living room ha ha
I’m in the process right now 🥶
I cannot get those top two bolts for the life of me
extensions are your friend. like long extensions ha ha
Can you explain the process of removing the bell housing i can’t seem to get the right side bolts off.
on 700r4, the bellhousing is fixed.
if the bolts are just tight, sometimes long sockets can twist a lot so things like impacts don't work
I feel like my extensions twisted like 1/2 a turn before the bolts even started to budge.
What size are the top 2 bolts on the bell housing? I cant tell if im using the wrong size or just cant get a bite
