I totally agree! I left Mem 3 weeks ago and am now using Reflect Notes, which I really love. I had such high hopes for Mem, but the company has no clear vision and is constantly changing their roadmap. What you have outlined in this video shocked me. I have no regrets leaving Mem.
I am a big fan. It is what I had hoped Mem would become. Reflect is stable, with good text formatting, and backlinking works as it should. The AI works well. The missing piece is the ability for AI to interact with my notes, like in Mem. I do miss that feature from Mem. @@Terratracer1909
Hmmm, I don't agree with your conclusions. I like the direction the Mem is taking their app, with a focus on the AI Assistant technology. The app's notes resurfacing feature is also powerful and unique. I plan to stick with Mem.
A few months ago I subscribed myself for a year, I wanted to really dive into mem... but well no real enhancements lately then I found this video, and I switched on the amazing new desktop, I saw it was better then in this video. But still no todo view... and well... very very disappointed, the problem with all these note taking apps with subscriptions is that we actually subscribe to a development instead of a very well thought through project... well this is going downhill... if the AI would have taken these functions, it would have been great... but it is not.. so Well I just have no clue, I wish I could get my money back.
mem really looked to me like it had a decent promise, but the developers didn't follow up with new updates, no roadmap. When I used it for a few weeks I felt no sense of organization of my knowledge, but rather a big unorganized messy pile. The chat feature was iffy, didn't always respond correctly and needs much more work. Visual structure like in Heptabase - my opinion only - at the moment beats chaotic thought networks with AI chat.
Yeah, Mem has totally missed the forest for the trees here. It’s laughable honestly. I’m with Readwise and Heptabase for exactly what you described: shallow thinking and deep thinking; and have added Capacities as the final form for my PKM. So far, I really like it. They’ve got AI integration, though not to the degree that old Mem did, but it’s more than enough for now and they’re not finished with it. They’ve also got a great UI/UX, a well-defined public roadmap, and a very responsive development team.
In virtually any pkm, the most important and useful context to consider is ... "When". When in my life, must I consider this particular thought? And by removing its Inbox and ability to snooze thoughts, Mem totally shot itself in the foot. And for me, the best tool and the most simple, adaptable and flexible tool, that most clearly depicts the "when" in my life, that is also growing right now in both staff and also in rolling out useful, relevant new features .. is Workflowy.
I found this video when it just hit me today that MEM hasn't been getting any better after months. I've loved its potential but thought it would slowly add features as time went on, and nothing has happened. What a major disappointment. Apparently they think the ultimate note taking app is just a blank screen while you either remember what you need to know or ask AI to tell you.
I have been using Mem for the last year or so and had gotten used to the work flow. Lately though I have noticed that it just freezes up ALL THE TIME. I have to refresh the webpage, sometimes close the browser, it is so frustrating. I think I get what they are trying to do, simplify, streamline, remove options so that its more of an interactive AI as the entire interface which I guess, for some, is good, but when you get used to one work flow and then lose features....not good. I know this video is older but I had noticed that when the new interface came out a lot of things were missing and I had no idea they were "sunsetting" tasks, calendar, etc. Sigh, guess I will have to change note taking apps AGAIN and figure out how to move all my Mem's to something else.
Agreed, I left mem 2 weeks ago and moved everything to Apple Notes. There was no highlighting in mem which is very important to me. Apple tags and search are amazing, in addition to being able to embed PDFs within each Apple Note. mem was also unreliable so I couldn't trust it to keep all of my notes.
I feel this just goes to show why so many companies are reticent to change and use new software. Hopefully there are some excellent alternatives that people can move their data if necessary.
When we use apple notes in iphone 13 pro there is no option where to record audio in notes as we can record in notes like i am song writer when I write in nktes also want to save tuning so?? Help me urgent
Wow, I did not see the announcement of all these features being dropped. I use the templates daily for my work day and the calendar kept all my upcoming appointments right in front of me. I was using/learning more about Tana along side Mem, but now I have to look back at Heptabase now.
I think we are going backwards Evernote is now a dinosaur and extinct Mem- never had any faith in it as it was just So off the track and made it difficult to gather information in one location to be actioned- new "home page" is ludicrous Bear2 is now very good tag driven and has great import/export functions I have been experimenting with amplenote = getting very close to an all in system but ai implementation is rudimentary. A lot of potential though.
I have checked it out but whiteboard based graphical apps are not my cup of tea maybe a mindmap as an alternative view but I like content to be text based. I will monitor and see how it progresses. A lack of an Ai option is also a disappointment.. Reflect app is maturing and becoming a decent tool but I am keeping an open mond.@@paperlessmovement
Question, and I'm strongly considering a member ship so i can stop wasting time. What are you using for meeting notes? I had gotten set up on meetgeek with mem and i added some dashboard type mems for projects but I'm getting really frustrated. I'm tired of spinning my wheels. What do you pair meetgeek with now?
Answer is: OpenAI leads $23.5M round in Mem, an AI-powered note-taking app. from 10 nov 2022. you do not need count customers if you have such investments
Haha yup. I unsub a month ago and today is the final memx day. Lifetime payment to heptabase 2 months ago. Android app still essentially useless but heptabase with ai integration with the desktop app would be the best thing ever. Love visual just hate no mobile because we are mostly mobile these days.
Evernote has milions of paid and free customers. Its an example that free users can be sustained for infinity. That's why they lost money . They lost their vision and messed up .Evernote 10 may have been a mess , but the way things are going, it stands a much better chance at giving Evernote a new life, maybe lot more smaller numbers and competiting than what legacy could have done . It's a lot more snappy and faster , although it still has an odd glitch...but then who doesn't ?
Seems like Mem saw this video because it looks like every complaint has been addressed. 1. Home is now "All notes" sort by last created 2. Task menu option for all tasks 3. Improved interface (not groundbreaking though)
What are your thoughts about the recent changes going on in Mem? If you switched, which tool are you using now instead?

Yes I think it's too soon to dismiss Mem. We should give them the opertunity show us the new direction they want to take things.

Same. I really bought into the potential but it’s still unreliable and not improving. Seems like they’ve lost their North Star.
Mem AI only gets worse over time. I think they have abandoned this project but won't admit. I'm looking at Reflect Notes and Heptabase now.
It's suicide to remove so many useful features.
Thank God I played my cards right and went with Heptabase

Agreed. Buggy and unreliable plus a poor mobile experience.
I’ve also been patiently waiting for updates from mem.. this is very disappointing and I’ll be moving away from mem immediately.

I LOVED Mem’s potential, but this update feels like a resentful, or even an openly hostile act towards its users.
Oh yeah, I already commented on this! Obviously I’m still having feelings about it. 🙂

Mem certainly had promise, and I could have seen myself adopting it. But not now! Thankfully, there are countless better alternatives.
Which apps have you tried?

The lack of CMD + F search within notes is brutal if you navigate by keyboard primarily.

LMAO when even the chat recommends the past system
I HATE these removed features. Any alternative however?
If Heptabase gets AI i think its all I need
I feel like they've got this dramatic new vision for Men but it should have been another view or even a new product
What is the vision? Like others I feel almost like it’s getting worse and more difficult to find stuff.
I’ve been using reflect
7:48 wtf 😂😂😂 these seems like feature requests and they decided to remove them what a Evolving but backwards move
You RUclips people are so dramatic with your thumbnails

I gave Evernote every chance but they simply do not listen or adequately support PAYING customers.
