    • @BrickMachinesChannel

      That one took around 15 hours to build probably, but it's the filming and editing that take the longest by far! I'm trying to find ways to get faster, but so far I spend about 6-8 hours working for every minute of content I release, so it adds up to a lot.

      Hi Richard, thank you very much for watching and for your comment! I haven't much considered making instructions, but that is a great idea! If I don't end up getting to making them, the best I can recommend is to watch the video at 1/4 or 1/2 speed and follow along while building. I will say, this machine is about 20 of the same "modules" over and over, so hopefully it is easy enough to follow. Thanks again for the idea!

  • @uncannysnake
    @uncannysnake 2 года назад

    I think it needs a few additional modifications. Honestly I am not quite sure what to fix, and I usually am a smartass who "knows exactly", but the ball instead of being on the bottom all the time needs to be "riding the wave", meaning always being on a medium-high part of the wave and then constantly rolling down, because right now it looks quite clunky with the ball just being pushed by one individual piston all the time and the pretty big wave being just for show. Maybe making it faster will make it work? Lighter balls? Adjusted move-pattern? I think all three could have an impact, but I think lighter balls may be the best idea of the three.

    • @BrickMachinesChannel
      @BrickMachinesChannel  2 года назад

      Thanks for the comment! I've tried with lighter balls, and it's okay, but they get thrown around too easily so I'd have to modify the cams that move the ball. It would be cooler if the ball rode high on the wave, but if you watch closely, you'll see the ball doesn't sit at the bottom of the wave, but it's fairly close. Cool ideas! It'd be neat to take another shot at this and incorporate new ideas!

    it'd funny: I was lucky (as an adult, I mean....I had one set of Legos growing up, it was only a few pieces but it was my favorite thing ever) and I inherited all of the Legos that my wife's family didn't want.....which is literally thousands. it's almost embarrassing how many we have because we rarely paid for them and there are just soooo many! I'm like 'a kid from a different nation who grew up with a barely working radio, but now has access to all the technology most people have access too and more'....I feel absurdly 'rich' in Legos and I love it!
    getting a lego space shuttle, for example.... was a silly goal I told myself I would achieve as an adult 😄 now, I have that, and my son has a Batman shuttle and two smaller shuttles...
    .....then my son got into Legos, so now we have a lego/lego knockoff military: the knockoff brands have real ww2 aircraft (like a B17.... one that, specifically, used to fly over our apartment complex every year until, sadly, it crashed. so, we have a monument of sorts for it) and tanks (he has a Panzer2 and a Sherman tank). I built him one out of Legos that had to hit his specs: needs to be easy to put back together if dropped....needs to have a knob at the back that turns the turret slowly....needs wheels instead of treads (I know, not really a tank, it's an ACP with a turret).... needs to look real with SNOT armored finish....needs to look like a real tank with realistic weaponry......needs to hold a crew of 3 people.
    ....🙄 so, I did what I assume Raytheon does and said "easy. when do you want it done by?", then went months past the promised schedule due to 'technical issues' (like me, technically, not in the mood to make it at that moment). Still, got accomplished and the pride I felt from completing it was nothing like the pride he had on his face when he saw what dad had actually made.
    He figured: dad will make a car with a gun and say 'the rest was too hard'....but that's not what he got.
    instead, all specs were met and exceeded.....some (some) examples: the turret has smoke grenade launchers, feels like it has weight to it and has no crew in it, making it safer. it also has a mounted large machine-gun with radar and thermal/ir sensors. the main gun has similar optics and the barrel is built to look like it has a fume extractor as well as a muzzle break. we drop tested it from the table and it does what it's designed to do: breaks into two solid pieces. A crew of three sits up front, all have windows that can button up and become armored. all armor is not only SNOT finished but most is angled to deflect incoming rounds. It even has angled armored fenders and the idea is that the crew would be able to run the turret and weapons, including the secondary gun, without being in the turret, thus reducing the risk of injury. The vehicle is push drive and is designed to be pushed by the knob used to turn the turret. this allows my son to move the tank and turret at the same time with one hand. it also is geared in such a way that the turret feels heavy and can easily make tiny adjustments with ease, but still can turn fast if desired. it's also designed to be able to turn the turret at any speed while pulling on the knob, so you can aim and reverse.
    so, why the verbose story 🤔 ....because I finally got confident enough to make real devices and realized.....
    .... we have, maybe, at best..... 100 Technic pieces total. nothing that really goes together. No clutch systems, no motor.... a few pneumatic parts and nothing to hook it up to. we have just enough gears to almost make simple projects....you know: the perfect amount if you want to be frustrated with them. 😄
    point is: I spent all time learning lego mechanics and how to design Legos (im a stay at home dad who does at home charter school, so Legos are a part time hobby at best)... I learned gear ratio basics and can make a gearbox but not without using non-lego parts.
    Legos Legos everywhere, and enough gears to make a practical, functional drive train.
    So....looks im going to have to make my own designs and see what I can come up with. using other parts as gears.... using belts and belt drives instead of gears.... making one gear do many different actions, somehow.
    ....back to learning! that's what makes it so fun!

    • @BrickMachinesChannel
      @BrickMachinesChannel  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for sharing such a great story! I'm totally with you...LEGO is such an awesome learning tool, but it seems there is always more to learn. And like you said, that's what makes it fun! I wish you all the best in your learning journey, especially with Technic gears parts!

    This is great, nicely presented and a good idea for a build. Have you recently found yourself getting loads of subscribers? I’ve got a tiny Lego channel and RUclips has suddenly started recommending me to people. It seems to have done the same thing for you by sending me to your channel today!

      Hi Jonathan, thank you for the comment! Yes, recently my channel has grown a lot, and I'm hoping for it to continue, but it has tapered off a lot in the last 3-4 days. Curious what the event was that sparked the growth for us both!

    I built a sine wave machine but instead of doing math I just use it to move a ball around

    what language is the coding portion, to me it looks like python, but I see some syntax that doesn't look like it should work to me, though I am a newbie python coder so I am bound to be confused.

    aren't all the modes exactly the same?

    • @BrickMachinesChannel
      @BrickMachinesChannel  2 года назад

      No, one mode allows speed adjustments, one allows for position adjustments, one's for ramping up and down automatically, one's for relaxing, and the last one is ball mode ☺️

      @@BrickMachinesChannel I think RUclips must be deleting the comment since it's a link because I posted it here as a reply a few minutes ago and it's already gone. Do you have some other social media place I can share the link to?

      Oh man it's so cool you made instructions! I don't have a good place at the moment...I should get a website up and running. I do know that rebrickable is a place to post instructions. Maybe that would work and then you or I could post here that they are on rebrickable!

    • @BrickMachinesChannel

      Hi tilde, the clicking noises you hear are the parts being assembled, and that's actually what it sounds like! Thanks for watching and commenting!

      @@BrickMachinesChannel 2:09 seems suspicious to me, why would a smooth axel make such a click sound?

    • @BrickMachinesChannel
      @BrickMachinesChannel  2 года назад

      Hi tilde, sometimes axles make a click sound when connecting to a cross hole of a half-beam, maybe especially the length 2 axles because of the notches in them but I dont know for sure! 😂

      @@BrickMachinesChannel indeed some similair mechanics there. would be very cool to see that realized. maybe it would be easier to use some kind or xilophone instead of strings. because the strength nedded to keep the strings pressure is a lot.!

    • @BrickMachinesChannel

      That's a fantastic idea, and one I'd like to keep in mind for the future! A xylophone is also a good twist that would probably be more easily accomplished. Thanks again for the comments!
