Rec., "È morto sì, tiranno"
Aria, "Svena uccidi, abbati, atterra"
Romina Basso, mezzo-soprano
Europa Galante
Dir. Fabio Biondi
Recorded on 29 April, 2013 at Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles
Italian Text:
ASTERIA
È morto sì, tiranno,
io stessa il vidi.
È morto, ma con lui non è anche morto
l’odio che al suo nemico
deve il sangue ottoman.
Io son l’erede.
Raccomandollo con un guardo il padre;
e quel poco che resta
del suo gran core in me, so custodirlo.
Io son l’unico avanzo dell’ira sua:
raccogli in me tutti i tuoi sdegni
com’io raccolgo contro te, in me sola,
Rendimela, crudele,
e al genitor mi invia
a placar l’ira sua con l’ombra mia.
Svena, uccidi, abbatti, atterra.
Piaghe, morte, strage, guerra
sempre in vita incontrerò.
E tu, padre, in me riposa;
dietro all’ombra generosa
a momenti volerò.
English Translation:
ASTERIA
He is indeed dead, you tyrant,
I saw him myself;
he is dead, but not so
the hate the Ottomans bear in duty
towards his enemy.
I am his heir.
My father attested this with a meaningful look.
And that small portion that remains
of his great heart in me, I know how to guard,
I am the only residue of his wrath;
all his injuries meet in me,
as in me alone are met all the contempt
and hate my people hold for you.
Look at me, I am she
who twice already
has tried to kill you,
and my guilt is that I failed.
If my offence is not enough to justify
another death, at least return
the means of my failed attempt.
Return it, monster,
and send me to my father
that my shade may appease his anger.
Stab me, kill me, beat me, fell me.
Wounds, death, massacres and war
shall I suffer throughout my life.
Father, rely on me:
very soon I shall be following
your gallant shade.

I miss you Romina!!! 🇦🇷 💖 you
This is a good rendition of this aria, I also like the recorded version of this aria sung by Marijana Mijanovic. Mijanovic sings at a faster tempo, but Romina in this aria savours the slow movement with more delicacy.
