    Hi John, This is a great video. Thanks. I have a small 8000 gallon pool in Palm Springs California with 28 feet of dynamic head. It's quite hot in the summer - average temp is around 95 degrees during the day and 80 at night. Hottest days are 110 - 115 cooling to 85 to 90 at night. In the winter, daily average is around 75 and 50 at night. Coolest days are 68 dropping to 40 at night. I am struggling to figure out what RPM to set for what amount of time for the hottest times in the summer and the coolest in the winter. Any help you can offer would be much appreciated

    • @JohnThePoolExpertGuy
      @JohnThePoolExpertGuy  6 лет назад +1

      Karrie Baas
      In a hot climate in the summer you need to run the pump for a long time like 12 to 16 hrs but only at 1000 to 1200 rpms. Only speed it up to run your pool sweep for a couple hours. And don't forget algae grows in the sunlight so it's better to run the pump during the daylight hours.
      In the winter time I like to run the pump around 6 hours a day three to four hours on 1800 RPMs and then two to three hours on 26 to 2,700 RPMs or whatever makes your pool sweep run the best. That's what I like to do but everybody has different opinions. I say try a lot of things and stick with what works.

    Thank you. Very helpful . What is the best height and low speed for 10000 gallon on underground pool, please? To save money on electricity, what is the best time for pump to run?

    • @JohnThePoolExpertGuy
      @JohnThePoolExpertGuy  Год назад

      I would say about 1800 RPM for low and 2600 RPM for high also I usually try to run it in the morning before 1 p.m. so you are not getting charged for peak hours. But you are still running it during the daytime. So something like 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. the hours for each speed. Then if you need to run it more you can determine that after running it for a week or so.

    Really appreciate this video, thanks. My heater requires 2500rpm which I had programmed to number 3, but it was in the egg timer mode and would default to my schedule after 11 minutes, and my heater would scream at me. I was having to run it at 3450 on another program button, but now I’ve been able to change program 3 to manual instead of egg timer. I’ll never eat eggs again 😂. Thanks!

    Hello John,
    We tried resetting the program the pool contractor set up but when we go to settings then speed 1-8 and select speed 1 we are able to adjust RPM's but we cannot get to manual setting to change to schedule setting. We tried different buttons and scroll buttons but does not take us to those settings. How do we change the manual to schedule? Also how do you use reset button we tried that and typical error button message appears. We appreciate your help on this issue.
    Thanks

    what about the days? how do you select which days to come on and off in schedules? like for everyday or every other day etc? so the key pad on the pump is the time box now, without ext controls, I have seen these, but the problem w these pumps is that w in house homeowners they set it too low to save money and the on these newer pools the auto vac doesn't have enough power to run on lower speeds, so you have to run another schedule at higher speeds daily which doesn't save any money.... or if its a party pool it doesn't run fast enough or long enough to clear the pool when the pool get thrashed on the summer weekends... more power to run longer in order to clear faster .... no savings in watts, or money,, these are good for low use pools only.

    • @JohnThePoolExpertGuy
      @JohnThePoolExpertGuy  5 лет назад

      I would run it everyday always........ Even if you have to run your pump at 2600 RPMs to make your pool sweep run the pump would run at approximately 1500 watts which is still about half of what a standard pump running at 3450 pulls. I usually run the pump on a higher speed for a few hours and then a lower speed for a few hours. This is usually cheaper than running a standard pump for 4 hours it accomplish is a lot more and costs a lot less.

    John - I programmed my new pump, followed the instructions, no problems. However, we had a power outage the other morning and the pump never started up because the on/off button needs to be pressed.
    We have a lot of outages here in Florida in the summer and we are heading north, how can I get this pump to come back on without physically pressing the on/off?
    This was never a problem with my old one speed direct wired to the manual timer

    • @JohnThePoolExpertGuy
      @JohnThePoolExpertGuy  7 лет назад

      you can put it on a time clock and loose the ability to program multiple speeds.
      or find a battery back up that works on 240 volts.

    What is the point of the egg timer?

    • @JohnThePoolExpertGuy
      @JohnThePoolExpertGuy  6 лет назад +2

      So you can manually turn the pump on and it will run for however long you set it and it will shut off and you don't have to remember to shut it off.
      It's basically so you don't forget to shut off the pump if you manually turn it on.

I have noticed that even after cleaning the DE filter and using newer grids that 2750 is not enough for some reason. I know how to manually UP the variable speed using the indoor RS unit, but can I also use the indoor unit to program the start speed to say 3000rpm (vs the now 2750), in the program so it comes on at 3000 now instead of 2750 in the current program. The pump is right outside our master bedroom which wakes us up during the night. We no longer have our pool service since I decided to try doing it all myself. The pool guys I had seemed fairly competent and I'd like to just change the run time to 6:00am-12:00pm without screwing up the settings that they set. Is there an easy way to do this without changing anything else?

    1) On the Intelliflo 2 VST, can I schedule i.e. speed 2 to run for say an hour at 7 AM, 2 hours at noon time, and 1 hour at 5PM? I want to run the pump at different times during each 24 hour period totaling about 10 hours each day. 2) Once I finish setting up this schedule, will the Intellichlor chlorinator automatically come on each time the pump turns on or do I also have to do an identical schedule for it? Thank you.

    • @JohnThePoolExpertGuy
      @JohnThePoolExpertGuy  4 года назад

      You can schedule each speed setting to run once. But you have eight settings to choose from and you can set more than one of them at the same speed. So yes you can do something like that. The salt chlorinator you will have to leave it on all the time. If you don't have some other way to tell it to turn on and off. Which is fine because it has a flow switch built-in and it won't turn on unless the pump is running anyway.

    • @JohnThePoolExpertGuy
      @JohnThePoolExpertGuy  7 лет назад

      akeem charles if the autopilot unit is controlling the pump it turns the pump on and off with a relay and that is possibly why the pump time is messed up. however if they are working independently from each other it's possible that there is an issue with the driver on the pump.

      Jonathan DelosSantos
      that is an unusual error code I don't believe I have seen that one before. Although I have been working with Pentair products for a while
      LCP usually means local control panel. if your voltages are okay it could be a problem with your drive. I would get a hold of a local warranty station and have them swap the drive out it's possible there is a problem with an internal sensor or something.

    • @seoulbrooks
      @seoulbrooks 5 лет назад

    So does the egg timer run daily? I set speed 4 to run from 7am-5pm. Will that happen every day?

      egg timer will not run everyday it will only run the amount of time he said it for when you turn it on. if you wanted to run daily you have to set it as a schedule.

      I'm not sure off the top of my head. If it's bigger than a 10:32.... and if you need one I would go down to the hardware store and get a couple sizes it would probably only cost a couple of dollars and see what fits. And if you can let me know go ahead and message me on this video.

    Hi John! My pool guy (who I think is just being lazy) says I can have my pump run all day 24/7 all summer! I'm not buying that! We got this new pump last year, and once again I am spazzing out on how to set the timer. We only have a pool conncected to it -- so should I just use pump one?

      Probably ok to run it for 3 hrs on low and 3 hrs on a higher speed like 2700 it depends on the size of your pool

    Hello John thanks for the video. One Question, I have this next to the master bedroom and when the pump starts every morning it sounds loud for 1 minute (everything in the pool moves and flows) and after this minute, it works perfectly and quiet. Question: Is possible to start it without that noise of 1 min? my pool guy says it is like this but for me it does not make sense !

    Hello john, Thanks for the video it was clear and easy to follow. We just renovated our pool and installed the Intelliflo 2 VST and cannot locate in manual or Pentair web any run time recommendations. Do you know if Pentair has a run schedule recommendation for this Intelliflo 2 VST? We were told by our pool contractor to run it 365D/24HRS and that does not sound right. If you know please let us know. Thanks Mike B.

      I don't think there's any reason to run your pool for that long especially if you were trying to save money. all you need to do is turn the water over in your pool one time per day. you can probably get away with anywhere from six to eight hours a day. I would start with running it 1800 RPMs for 4 hours. and then run it at 2800 RPMs for 3 hours.

      Not really what I would call "expert" advice. How long you run your pool pump and how many rpms depend upon many factors such as your pool size in gallons, your piping size, number of pipes and what flow you have selected on your valves, the rpms will depend upon many things as well such as whether you have any water features, etc. You do want variable levels to skim correctly and circulate the water debris properly for cleaning but other factors include an awareness of minimum gpm for salt generators etc if you have one, and heaters also require a minimum gpm. Finallly you want to balance all this properly to conserve maximum energy, so if your pool only requires 2500 rpms for correct flow you are wasting energy at 2800 and not getting the most out of an expensive investment. As you can see there are a lot of factors and not something you want to swag at and definitely not one size fits all. Learn all there is to know or hire a professional to help.

    Any way to determine what the ballpark GPM rates are on the various RPM's? Does the pump show GPM when running?

    • @JohnThePoolExpertGuy
      @JohnThePoolExpertGuy  8 лет назад

      this pump doesn't show the flow on the display. the easiest way to get an accurate flow reading is to buy a flow meter that goes on your return line.

    If I had to schedule the vacuum to run everyday, what is the preferred rpm for it?

    • @JohnThePoolExpertGuy
      @JohnThePoolExpertGuy  6 лет назад

      Cris Ayson
      For a suction cleaner I usually run around 2800 RPMs but it depends on a few factors such as pipe size and distance from pool to pool equipment. But you're pretty safe around 2800

    • @crisayson8869
      @crisayson8869 6 лет назад

      For some reason, I can't get my new Zodiac MX8 Elite vacuum to work. Even at 3000rpm. I have both my bottom drain and skimmer fully open. Does that matter?

    • @JohnThePoolExpertGuy
      @JohnThePoolExpertGuy  6 лет назад

      First you probably need to adjust your valve so that two-thirds of the suction is coming from the cleaner and one third of the suction is your skimmer and Main drain. Second you might want to check your mx8 cleaner they tend to get bound up with tiny bits of sand or debris

    • @crisayson8869
      @crisayson8869 6 лет назад

      Thank you. I'll play around with the valve adjustments later this pm. I'm thinking that is the issue. As for the mx8, it's right out of the box. there shouldn't be any debris that soon, but I'll check nonetheless. Thank you very much.

      You can also run it in 24/7 by setting a schedule, with a start-time (say 0700), then a stop time 1 minute less than start time (0659) - don't have the times equal. That is what the manual says.
