  • Muli po ninyo kaming samahan sa aming panibagong video!
In this video, we pasture our ducks for a third day in rice paddy fields with a lot of apple snails they can feed on. The ducks serve as a form of biological control for apple snails, which are considered pests on tender rice seedlings. Our hand-picking of apple snails is a form of physical control for this pest. We avoid the third form of pest control, application of chemicals, as much as possible.
A farm worker is breaking up lumps of soil in the rice field using a harrow (suyod) being pulled by a carabao, the Philippine national animal symbolizing hard work, strength, and perseverance.
I cook Adobo eel for lunch. Adobo is a traditional style of cooking in the Philippines where a main ingredient is cooked in vinegar, soy sauce, garlic, onions, and bay leaf; in our version with eel, we add chili for added heat.
We collect fallen branches from a Bayog tree (Bambusa spinosa), to use for herding ducks and for putting in our pond for snails to lay eggs on.
