I love that Dr K can take criticism and review his content accordingly, him saying something doesn’t have much scientific support but clarifying that it’s still valuable to him on a personal level is something I appreciate and many others should learn.

I very much respect that he's willing to make this distinction. The way he claimed that ayurveda could be connected to genetics without explaining the evidence felt poorly thought out. I don't know much about phychology or genetics, but I know enough about history to say it's important to be responsible when connecting genetics with personality traits, or when mixing the spiritual with the scientific. Science is constantly questioned after all, so if someone feels an idea is spiritual or sacred, it can get difficult to test it without having a bias.
@@Kurnhelios I'd be careful with that particular logic. Take something like the four temperaments from ancient Greece - this idea has some similiarities to ayurveda, and was used in medicine well into the 18th century. But it turned out to not be a great understanding of the human body, despite its long history.

@PhantomStranger i've seen so many content creators just trust any random study, or collection of studies, and go 100% for it, and believe it to be the absolute truth. Dr k usually puts studies results under scrutinity knowing some things are not certain, or are maybe hard to prove, but that its data can be useful or points things in a certain way. 25:53 This is accurate. I am a very lazy software engineer/programmer.
A few months ago at my job they gave me an annoying task, I had to manually check over 200 websites 1 by 1 and go to specific links on each site to make sure those websites were still "good". I said screw that I didn't wanna do all that work, so I made a Python script that essentially went through the entire list of 200 websites, checked the links, and outputted an excel spreadsheet with the results.
A week+ worth of work done in a few hours.
Of course I didn't report it right away, I took most of the week to just chill at my job pretending to be busy. I studied and did other things, maybe watched RUclips or played some games and chilled. I handed in the work like a day earlier than it was due. "Wow you did it early! Amazing!" Ez.

Same, after 1.5 years of constantly losing money trying to become a day trader i finally became consistently profitable. I knew I could do it, i just didnt know how long it would take. Many days crying in the shower, forcing myself to learn from bad losses even though a chart is the last thing i want to look at, lots of doubt nearly everyday. Everyday i asked myself am i cut out for this? When am i going to get this? Am i wasting my time? I still gave it 110% effort, while i made absolutely no money and watching my bank account get drained everyday. Even though i had all these negative thoughts, i was still confident because i could see the progress and improvements i was making and thats all that mattered to me. I thought about giving up so many times, almost every damn day, but i couldn't even if i wanted to. i had too much passion for this and theres nothing else i wanted to do.
If you felt like quitting, some people in the same journey actually did. So if you can keep going every single time, thats how you become the elite in whatever you do. Stick it out, its worth it.

I know a guy who runs a used game store and he's so chill, he'll just sit back and do whatever at the counter while people browse, or chit chat with you about games or anything else. He has a little mini service of fixing up controllers, particularly switch joycons. I think he said that he did study electrical engineering or something, so he's totally putting those skills to good use. I think he had some cool artwork up that people made. I also had a Spanish teacher who is in a heavy metal band, and he would sometimes bring a guitar to class and just play during downtime. Being at a small school, word spread quickly and he got asked to play for chorus when they sang Bohemian Rhapsody lol. Plus he incorporates Spanish lyrics into his music. Honestly that makes them some of the most unique and memorable people I've met. I hope I too can combine my interests and just live as my most authentic self. The first time that a video from Dr. K hits me so hard.
Freshly graduated with a marketing major. I noticed during internships that I hate content creation and stuff. So I was looking for jobs in my field but avoiding content creation like Social Media Managers and so on.
Im in E-commerce for 4 months now and I have the same struggles again. Bored, unmotivated.
This video helped me to understand that I should not pressure myself in believing that there is only one thing out there that I am supposed to do and that I should know at the age of 27 what this one thing is.
I have multiple interests, I am like a sponge when learning something that got me interested. But I get bored fast.
I am actually looking forward to find a next job and see how I can circle 3 to 5 careers

@@icecreamisfood Hi, yeah a lot happened since then. I worked for my past E-Commerce company for 1 1/2 years. Because they wanted to move the headquarters and I was not willing for relocating, we agreed to part. No hard feelings. They understood.
After that I started as a project manager in am agency. Higher pay and l had less operative task to do. More managing other people's tasks and less doing th myself.
After a few months I noticed that this kind of work did not suit me. Running after others, making sure they did their work on time and correct stressed me out and it was boring. So I learned that I wanted to be more involved in the work I do. Lucky a recruiter on LinkedIn asked me if I wanted to join an agency that was building a new e-commerce department. So I said yes and quit the other job.
Now a few months in the new job.
Doing good. Sometimes I check what open positions are out there just for fun.
I don't know your situation, what you do, where you are from or what the job market is like for you right now but here are some takeaways I had:
      - like Dr. K said, there is no ONE thing you HAVE to do
      - while you work you will learn what things you WANT to do and what not. You will gravitate to certain things on your own.
      - Don't feel forced to stay in a job if you don't like it. Find out what you don't like. The tasks or the people. If it is the task, talk to your supervisor. Most companies are more flexible than you think in moving your department. If they have employed you that means you have convinced them of you as a person and if you have showed them in the last month's that you are hard working and reliable, they will try to keep you and find the right position if possible. There are plenty of jobs out there.
      - Don't compare yourself with others. Don't use LinkedIn too much like I did. Too many people who are showing of how successful they are, how they started their own company or agency and when I check their profiles they have similar backgrounds to mine. Of course I was feeling behind and stressed out
A good advice that I got from LinkedIn was: when working you can learn or earn. Both is the best bot learning new skills or earning good money is also fine. When you think you don't have anything to learn there anymore and you don't get paid as much as you would like to, leave.
      I hope I could help.
      What's your current situation?

This trend of hyper-specialisation, where people are shut down the second they try to talk about something that isn't exactly the specific topic that they're "an expert in" drives me mad. We are losing all the knowledge gained through transfer learning, we are removing accountability from academics by minimising the number of people allowed to criticise anyone, and we are encouraging massive duplication of research.

Its quite apt, since even the need for meaning is usually pursued to overwrite what you feel are shortcomings, even if that's subconscious. Although they can be healthy, the reasons can be quite egotistical and basically just be a form of validation seeking- and sometimes that can result in your outcomes rarely ever feeling like they're enough. Often famous musicians/actors have posted about this - who are obviously highly successful; but still get depressed or worse. Its also seen in children who are pushed harshly by their parents; end up successful but ultimately damaged adults. Letting go of the need to earn, to complete, to win is really powerful but you need to address the feelings that want those things first, since they're not inherently bad, but can often come from a place of lack/fear.

And the 19:00 quote seems to be a better(imo) version of the 16:56 quote, because sometimes people say the say the same thing in different words in order to get the point across. The 19:00 quote just seems more succinct than the 16:56 quote.

However I was decent at math and science and somewhat wanted to do something related to science and the environment. Now, during my studies in first year I feel like I chose a career that I did like and that would make me more financially stable in the future when getting a job, however I don't feel as passionate about environmental science as I do when I can just be creative and make music/play piano.

The idea that life doesn't have meaning is an Existentialist perspective, and it really is freeing once you understand it. There is nothing in life that can give you meaning, so only you can give your life meaning
That's why no one can say your life doesn't have meaning if you don't have kids, or don't become a doctor, or if you don't listen to your parents. This idea may scare some people, but it's incredibly freeing for some: including me. Crash course has a good video on existentialism.
How it applies to this video is that: your meaning or "purpose" in life doesn't have to come from your career if you don't want it to. Your purpose in life can come from your hobbies, your pets, your kids; literally it is up to you

My advice would be give yourself a better normal than I gave myself, learn from my mistake and don't repeat it. If your take away from my comment was that you want to imitate me you completely missed my point and probably don't have the capacity to juggle that many things, to be honest, or you wouldn't be asking a random person in a RUclips comment section for advice you would be out there doing it already, trust me on this. Don't know if you'll see this but I just want to thank you. Your channel has been very insightful into questions about my mental state and my future. Was recently in a rut because I'm a bit behind due to some past college failures and have been swapping majors trying to find what makes me tick. This video helped reaffirm my confidence in my decisions. I know there are over 200 comments but I just wanted to let you know how great ur channel is.

*Hey Dr K, I wish I had seen this 10 years ago. I'm 32 now and only figured this out a few years ago when I found my purpose. My RUclips is a part of my purpose even though it's tiny and under the radar. But then I realise, all that time was not wasted, everything is connected. It taught me a lot and gave me a qualification. I'm a Chartered Accountant who has worked in tax for 10 years. However, I had always wanted to do something in Education. Then I discovered Meditation and spirituality and doors started opening, I started getting Visions of my Future. My neighbour is a Principal of K-12 School and they needed a School Business Manager who was CA qualified accountant for a 9 month contract. I looked after over 30 staff, leading the teams of Finance, IT, HR, Marketing, Security, Maintenance etc. During COVID I ran weekly 10 minute meditations for my teams to help deal with stress and anxiety. There was a marked impact on morale and performance. Before I left, I got to meet the C-Suite of the Association of Indepedent Schools and establish good rapport with them and got their contact details. AISNSW is the governing body that looks after over 480 schools and 200,000 children. My goal is to get meditation integrated in the school curriculum, not just for the students but all the teachers. This will make history, as the positive effect from such a large use case would be undeniable, and will be replicated and scaled globally. I've laid the groundwork and connections but I could use some help to get the ball rolling, can you please help Dr K? Could I get you in a virtual meeting with the C-Suite? I've tell you the plan over email. I'd also be honoured if you'd be the second guest on my Podcast, the last video on my channel. You'd be following Indian Australian Comedian Neel Kolhatkar, and you'd be setting off a chain reaction that will lead to everything happening, you'll be the catalyst. What say you Dr K? For everyone else reading can you please help Dr K see this? Subscribing would be really appreciated and will also help save the world in ways you can't yet imagine. If you're a teacher or work in Education and you'd like to help, plus hit me up. Thanks heaps.*

I wanna add that a lot of things DO involve luck. In a lot of your videos, you talk about how what you do is not "regular" and it still works, and that's absolutely fine, however people must realize that sometimes it wouldn't work, and that if they keep trying and it still doesn't work, quitting and moving to other things is definitely fine. yeah, you do incredible things with this youtube channel and on twitch, but without luck it wouldn't be possible. other people who might do what you do might not get the same success. and if you like it and get enough success to make you happy, awesome. but if that doesn't work, you can still choose a different path no matter how old you are.
An incredible story I heard about Steve Jobs is that he majored in calligraphy because it seemed nice to him. it was just fun. not sure if he finished that or not, but that brought the idea to bring fonts into mac, which later turned into the fonts we know today. we wouldn't dream of different fonts on computers if Jobs hadn't learned calligraphy. It would just be redundant.

As a person that manifest many vatta style features, I support this message. Regarding the part of applying principles from one field to another, I 100% agree and, moreover, I think my own personality and my tendency to shift from one thing to another and all that, its what it makes it more easily to me to do it. Also, it's probably a skill to an extent, so it kind of gets better the more you do it.

I'm personally happy with the career choices I made, but our country has this dumb system where you have to go through 1,5 years of temporary contracts before they hire you permanently and they always pretend they will hire you... until they don't. (It costs more to hire someone permanently) I've been losing jobs throughout 10 years now for this dumb reason. It's not that I was never passionate or didn't want to work. It's just hell to go through and you get more and more demotivated each time, because they will make up lies about you as to why you're fired while you know for yourself you gave it your all.

. Vata people prefer doing multiple things at the same time so it's better for us to choose and work on multiple careers
. Getting amazing at one things is not the best way to become successful
What matters is using different things you learnt from very different places to apply into something new. So it's not a terrible thing to switch careers cause you'll apply your knowledge into the new career. It's not all a waste of time.
. Vata people should keep switching between about 4-5 things and keep working on em
. Experience is overvalued. Your performance is not linearly related to time spent. You should focus on getting better and learn actively. Replay analysis (look at what went wrong and what went right)
. It's not hard to catch up if you start late as long as you're determined to make a change
. There is no THE formula to success. There is a different formula to success for each person.
. More work is not kore time spent on it
    . Meditation 27:30

K plus the meditation techniques he thought also helped me without me even knowing it, my request to him is not to stop giving knowledge from aayurveda and eastern stuff....ik some people don't believe it which i completely respect...if it's possible Dr. K. Can make another RUclips channel where he tells solutions with eastern perspective with some knowledge of science (cause that's helpfull too) a channel where where he doesn't have to worry about people aayurveda is wrong (i totally respect them btw)

Maybe start with mind-body exercises and work up to doing meditation? Like yoga or Qi Gong? Alternatively there is meditation for focus. Saying one of Dr. K's mantras with the beads might also help as it's not doing nothing. I also really like this exercise where you picture a stream and visualize the words and thoughts you're thinking going on leaves and floating away. It keeps you from trying to stop your mind. You just go with it and let the thoughts exist and float

Also, I love that you did the aum meditation, we do that in my yoga lessons and I was a bit confused what I was supposed to do. Plus, I'm a former semi-pro chorist and I was more focused on doing a harmonious pitch (as I can's go as low as the teacher), than anything else. Talking of which, is it alright to do harmonious pitch? Or should I focus more on myself?

At one point, I became bored with everything, but I didn't get interested in new things. I was never capable of studying anything and I wasted like 6 or 7 years trying to pursue a college title. I've wasted my life. All I want is to restart it, because it's so wasted I would need to redo it all over again to make it worth. But that's impossible, so I'm left with a wasted life that has no value from this point.
I wish I at least had any knowledge to consider useless. Anything.
Not only I don't have purpose, but also no objectives, no desires. Nothing. I don't even have anything to expect from the weekends, let alone an objective to pursue in life. I have no reason to live at all.
How can you guys enjoy anything about life? I'm just so fvcking tired of it.

    • @Onthe9thlife3730

The feeling I get from reading this is "need rest and regrowth".
I'd like to restart myself with what I know now but I can't.
Why do you have to have a productive life where every second has to be XYZ productive as determined by ABC goal point.
You can start right now, with what you know right now and just consider this the real game now that you're out of the tutorial. Even if you're 80 you could still live for another 40 years. That's a whole life right there.
It feels like those productivity requirements are getting in the way of discovering what you actually intrinsically enjoy.
If your productivity is having to eat 5 scoops of chocolate ice-cream (and you actually enjoy mint ice-cream but don't know it yet) how would you know unless you take a break, allow time for rest, then trying other kinds of ice-cream? You could be so burnout on ice-cream that without a rest you'd just hate all ice-cream.
Even hive insects make time for rest.

Hey Dr K, do you know much about overeating to excess, not necessarily due to stress eating? I take ritalin for ADHD, and I still have an obscenely excessive food intake. I wish I could stop eating so much, and yet I still feel hungry. Could this be mental or is this a lengthy GP process?

    • @deadinside8781
      @deadinside8781 2 года назад

If your weight is ok, maybe it's not a problem, but if it's making you overweight or uncomfortable with all this eating, why not try a different medication if possible? Definitely talk to a GP first and see what they say.

    • @Onthe9thlife3730
      @Onthe9thlife3730 Год назад

It could be a certain vitamin or mineral you're lacking or a hormonal issue since there is a hormone that triggers hunger.
Being hungry, if you've physically satisfied yourself, could be you wanting some form of success or goal and because our language subliminally does stuff like "hungry for success" your brain substitutes it and bam food again or the physical sensation of hunger. It's also a psychological hole filler when you're not satisfied because food is one of the easiest ways to do this.
Hydration is another one, could be needing more water intake and the signal is just crossing wires with hunger since we can get moisture from that too.
Another factor is that it could be your stimming activity you like best is chewing so trying chewellery might help or at least ease the actual caloric intake.
The food variety we have now is so much that it could also be helping the brain chemicals as the easiest way to regulate the brain. It's smell, texture, flavour, internal sensation, constantly changing as you chew.
There's so many different ways these factors could be combining together not even accounting for stress eating/energy for the brain processing as a coping mechanism for external stuff or unprocessed childhood trauma that neurodivergent people get.

I am actually really seriously thinking about becoming a coach. To be fair if I could be a coach at HealthyGamer that would be perfect for me but unfortunately, I'm not from US. I've managed to look at some courses and atm already started wondering how can I possibly fund the education and how my future might look like. It is a bit difficult because I am the kind of a person that had difficulty going thru major changes. I love stability. But at the same time I feel suffocating at my current job. And I really feel strongly that I want to help people with their mental health, I am drawn to it plus I have a natural thing to see pattern of human behavior and the need to use it is great (I keep bothering people around me with it so I would like for a change for someone to want me to use this perdisposition)
