Marisa's fighting style appears to be based on Pankration (very ancient style, similar to what Gill and Urien use - you can see it in that boot special she has and the counter)
She looks sick though I'm not 100% sold on how her hair looks, she looks like she means business - VERY satisfying hits like Alex's big crush counters and grabs. Hoping we get her in a beta later before final release.
well, urien and gill both fight "actual" (by in-universe standards) pankration but marisa seem to be more based on real world historical depiction of pankration with some extra, new flavour on top to really sell the greco-roman ideal beauty of "sheer, unfettered strength"
Here is hoping her alt outfits don't have the helmet hair.
Which is cool, cause the only other fighting game that has a Pankration fighter I can think of off the top of my head is Jeffery McWild from Virtua Fighter.
Isn't Pankration a Greek fighting style where it involves, grappling, boxing, kicks, in short mma while having a specific rule of not gouging the eyes or punching the groin?
@@gamechanger8908 Not quite: Pankration was specifically the unarmed combat training of the soldiers and it combined greek wrestling with greek boxing. It didn't favor kicks much and it was optimized for war.
It is less like MMA and more like modern military CQC disciplines like Fairbarn, Systema and Krav Maga.
But it's true there was an olympic variation with a few rules, but it's more or less what most modern olympic martial arts are to their more traditional disciplines, a shadow of it's former glory that many argue whether it's at all the same combat style
I honestly feel like Manon was the least interesting character for me, I like her aesthetically and I love me some long legged, big booty waifus but I'm not a fan of how she plays. Marisa and JP pretty much stole the show for me

The fact that you can not only see the definition and separation of the individual muscle groups but the fact that they bulge and stretch in the most realistic way when contracting and relaxing is just mind blowing

Marisa is the Queen. She looks great. Her hair is kinda jank but most of Street fighter chars have crazy hair style
I think the problem with it is the color. Goofy hair shapes have been a street fighter staple forever, but that explosive bright pink/red on a character with otherwise kind of muted black and gold draws the eyes up to how absurd that hair is, rather than letting you look past it and see the character.
Maybe they'll give us a skin where she's wearing the helmet.

The pose of that grapplein 2:36, is actually a reference to a scupture that is called "Wrestlers", actually if you google image Pankration, which is Marisa Fighting style, and also Gil and Urien kinda (they all even have the same kick (the crush counter kick)), you will find one of those scuptures as the very first result. This statue was reproduzed a few times arround and is very famous, it represents the very first martial ark, the Pankration. Gill just made his own version of the statue with street characters
Drive Impact has armor through the entire animation, even when the attack is about to hit. So yeah, that foward punch absolutely obliterated the Drive Impact armor

I play Luke in SFV and Ken in 3S, so initially it was between them two. Leaning towards Ken. Marissa definitely interests me though. When the character art leaked and the description said she was an pankration/MMA fighter, my hope was that she wouldn’t just be a grappler, that she would have a fireball like Luke.
I wanna try out Manon. I didn't even realize she was a grappler until I read the page.

Looks like a jab. It would be weird if they made it a throw counter instead of a hit counter.
@@twistedrivera Why not? All the characters already have a parry and there has already been a similar move with Luke in SFV. Where both at the same time
@@kittymortalkombat It doesn’t make a lot of sense to make a throw counter mechanic since it won’t be all too usable in matches. If it works like Luke V-skill 2 in SFV, then I can see it working that way but I highly doubt they would make a throw specific counter that will rarely be seen
I too was looking forward to marisa and/or manon, I wanted an aggressive grapple, but after the gameplay I don't think either will suit my playstyle.
Marisa is more of a brute. kinda like abigail, and manon a tricky tech char like karin.
Dee jay looks betterfor me of the 4 chars shown, hoping that they gave him the SVF vega treatment and got rid of his charges, which he should never have to have.
Deejay definitely seems really fun to play this time around. Interest me much more than his SF4 iteration
@@twistedrivera As you probably know he was the weakest char, like literally lowest tier in SF4.
I have heard that apparently his charge horizontal kick move (cannot remember name) was supposed to break guard like focus attack but they took it away from him before launch as it was too OP, which actually gutted his playstyle and was too late for them to change him and balance him, hence why he was so low tier.
Might be BS or a rumour but it would make sense why he was so crap.
Still I don't think deejay should be a charge char at all but if they keep his charge, it should be supplemented with more forward aggressive moves, which it looks like he has.
Plus he can feint his projectile and non EX projectile is a double fireball/boom, so even if he is a charge char, he will most likely be stronger and more useful.

That low tier character attraction or draw that you speak of I have that problem too. Majority of characters I like or get good with usually end up being low to mid tier at best. It's aggravating sometimes.
