Think for yourself Question authority Think for yourself Question authority Throughout human history, as our species has faced the frightening, terrorizing fact that we do not know who we are, or where we are going in this ocean of chaos, it has been the authorities, the political, the religious, the educational authorities who attempted to comfort us by giving us order, rules, regulations, informing, forming in our minds their view of reality. To think for yourself you must question authority and learn how to put yourself in a state of vulnerable, open-mindedness; chaotic, confused, vulnerability to inform yourself. Think for yourself. Question authority. Think for yourself Question authority Dreaming of that face again. It's bright and blue and shimmering. Grinning wide And comforting me with it's three warm and wild eyes. On my back and tumbling Down that hole and back again Rising up And wiping the webs and the dew from my withered eye. In... Out... In... Out... In... Out... A child's rhyme stuck in my head. I've missed you so much Came out to watch you play. Why are you running?" Shroud-ing all the ground around me Is this holy crow above me. Black as holes within a memory And blue as our new second sun. I stick my hand into his shadow To pull the pieces from the sand. Which I attempt to reassemble To see just who I might have been. I do not recognize the vessel, But the eyes seem so familiar. Like phosphorescent desert buttons Singing one familiar song... "So good to see you. I've missed you so much. So glad it's over. And you thought that I had run away. Chasing a trail of smoke and reason. Prying open my third eye
This is the absolute pinnacle of musical perfection. Content and execution epitomize excellence, elucidating elements of electrical endorphin-driven ecstasy. I am undone.
My buddy got me into Tool way back in college. This version of Third Eye is one of the most soul punching, face melting, trips of a song. Goddamn it slaps.
I’ve always loved the beginning. I went to a private all boys catholic high school and this version was such an influence in my whole outlook on religion in general.
The transition between the beginning section and the band going full in sounds less like the intro a song and more like something coming to life and seeing light for the first time. The most aural imagery to a third eye if there ever was one.
The beginning of this song has shaped me a lot growing up. My dad played this a lot in car rides when I was very young and its stuck with me ever since. I'm thinking of this song a lot recently because I'm in government class now.
This song is stuck in my head says that life is but a dream we are only but a question If I had known this all along so good to see you I’ve missed you so much
Imagine you are singing the song about yourself... so good to see you once again I thought that you were hiding from me you thought that I had to run away chasing the tail of Dogma. One of the most intense songs, one of the most psychedelic songs of all time and there's so much deep implications of healing that it's hard to put into words
I can't even image the experience of those who were there while witnessing this performance. Damn! If only i get a chance to see them.. just for once. sigh
Maybe I'm losing it but I often get the impression that Tool is a darker, edgier, and more modern version of Pink Floyd. Maybe it's because the songs of both of these artists feel more like a ride than a song and they're both some of the greatest musicians of the past 50 years as far as I'm concerned.
I saw tool for the first time in 2001 and they played this and no quarter. It was also my first concert. They played at a little college basketball stadium in Utah with half of it blocked off. There's been 2 shows in my life that will none will ever compare to, and this is the best of the 2.
imagine being a band so good that this is the song you START a show with.

An 11 minute song that leaves you gasping, begging for more. So rare to find.
Instant Catharsis.
A child's rhyme stuck in my head.
It said that life is but a dream.
I've spent so many years in question
to find I've known this all along.
Best Tool song, hands down. Wish I hadn't lost my copy of Salival- forgot my pen, shit the bed AGAIN (typical)
Think for yourself
Question authority
Think for yourself
Question authority
Throughout human history, as our species has faced the frightening,
terrorizing fact that we do not know who we are, or where we are going in
this ocean of chaos, it has been the authorities, the political, the
religious, the educational authorities who attempted to comfort us by
giving us order, rules, regulations, informing, forming in our minds their
view of reality. To think for yourself you must question authority and
learn how to put yourself in a state of vulnerable, open-mindedness;
chaotic, confused, vulnerability to inform yourself.
Think for yourself.
Question authority.
Think for yourself
Question authority
Dreaming of that face again.
It's bright and blue and shimmering.
Grinning wide
And comforting me with it's three warm and wild eyes.
On my back and tumbling
Down that hole and back again
Rising up
And wiping the webs and the dew from my withered eye.
In... Out... In... Out... In... Out...
A child's rhyme stuck in my head.
It said that life is but a dream.
I've spent so many years in question
to find I've known this all along.
"So good to see you.
I've missed you so much.
So glad it's over.
I've missed you so much
Came out to watch you play.
Why are you running?"
Shroud-ing all the ground around me
Is this holy crow above me.
Black as holes within a memory
And blue as our new second sun.
I stick my hand into his shadow
To pull the pieces from the sand.
Which I attempt to reassemble
To see just who I might have been.
I do not recognize the vessel,
But the eyes seem so familiar.
Like phosphorescent desert buttons
Singing one familiar song...
"So good to see you.
I've missed you so much.
So glad it's over.
I've missed you so much.
Came out to watch you play.
Why are you running away?"
Prying open my third eye.
So good to see you once again.
I thought that you were hiding.
And you thought that I had run away.
Chasing the tail of dogma.
I opened my eye and there we were.
So good to see you once again
I thought that you were hiding from me.
And you thought that I had run away.
Chasing a trail of smoke and reason.
Prying open my third eye
Think fo yourself. Be an anarchist!
Thanks mate
Be yourself!!!
@@Minder777 this didnt age well
@@SoloModz99 - aged fantastically. Still an anarchist.
The best first song to a concert ever
This is the absolute pinnacle of musical perfection. Content and execution epitomize excellence, elucidating elements of electrical endorphin-driven ecstasy. I am undone.
I will never get tired of hearing this tune... especially this version. Think for yourself.... ALWAYS!!!!!
My buddy got me into Tool way back in college. This version of Third Eye is one of the most soul punching, face melting, trips of a song. Goddamn it slaps.
I’m jealous of anyone that gets to listen to tool for the first time!
Why? Anyone who has ever listened to Tool, gets to listen to them for the first time. :)
Its aways like first
Why is it every time I listen to this song, it's like listening for the first time.
I’ve always loved the beginning. I went to a private all boys catholic high school and this version was such an influence in my whole outlook on religion in general.
I saw Tool live in 2017 while peaking on a shroom trip and my brain hasn’t been the same since
FortySix& TooSober I saw them in 2017 in Chicago, was the single most beautiful concerts I’ve ever been to. The laser show was stunning
@@LtDan-rk4si They did perform live in 2017, though. I saw them and they actually played Third Eye in NYC that year.
I remember when it was cool to "think for yourself, question authority ".
Now its cool and hip to be a mindless uncreative drone.
questioning authority is exactly what we need rn, more than ever. the system will never have your best interests at heart. fuck em all
You have been vividly conquered by greed. Putting commercials in the middle of songs is insultingly disappointing.
maynards lyrics are some of the most poetic, deep, and incredible ever written. so underrated
It should be a goddamn crime to put an ad on this - or any Tool song for that matter.
This song gets stuck in my head says life is better a dream
This isn't just a song. We are trying to feel something.
All of their songs are like therapy in a way. It's kinda cool, cheaper too.
12:14 truly.... the GREATEST live guitar solo ever... gives me chills every time, regardless of how many decades.
This song is stuck in my head says that life is but a dream we are only but a question If I had known this all along so good to see you I’ve missed you so much
Iam so glad to see you- from Styria, Austria, Europe; One Love.
so good to see you, friend from Austria
Easily, without a doubt, my favorite Tool release ever. Wish it was more widely available
This is Tool's best work.
This absolutely has no right to be as beautiful as it is
I love the album art because i can diagnose my rotator cuff tear while rocking out
Do you know how many hallucinogenic I've listened to on this song thank you for reminding me of my twenties
Genius
Imagine you are singing the song about yourself... so good to see you once again I thought that you were hiding from me you thought that I had to run away chasing the tail of Dogma. One of the most intense songs, one of the most psychedelic songs of all time and there's so much deep implications of healing that it's hard to put into words
Definitely the BEST version of Third Eye... Also recommend trying it with the LSD turned on. Or whatever your pleasure.
I am transported into another dimension through this performance. Masters of their art form, this, a testament to that.
As I stand here motionless after 20+! year's of listening 🤘🤘🤘
I can't even image the experience of those who were there while witnessing this performance. Damn! If only i get a chance to see them.. just for once. sigh
Very valid today. THINK FOR YOURSELF. QUESTION AUTHORITY. Thinking and questions are good things.
I questioned authority and thought for myself and now I've lost my job, so thanks Maynard
You worked for the wrong boss...
Now go and create your own! ;)
This is awesome. All levels. Drums guitars timing vocals. I sit in my living room 5/13/20 in awe.
This song song tickles my inner feeling deep inside. Can't dig it but I do find it. That ticking feeling sleeping deep....so deep. I'm awake.
I have always thought this. I completely agree.
This whole album.. of covers and live recordings is one of the best albums ever made. Think about it.
i still have this dvd box set. One of very few to hear its gems
This song makes me feel euphoric. I rarely shed a tear, but at 11:56 I cry of joy happiness
That is the best part. So badass
I saw tool for the first time in 2001 and they played this and no quarter. It was also my first concert. They played at a little college basketball stadium in Utah with half of it blocked off. There's been 2 shows in my life that will none will ever compare to, and this is the best of the 2.
This album has been paramount in my life ❤
