Nice use of CAD *C* ardboard *A* ided *D* emonstration It can be quite helpful to remember that we're never really cutting, but putting pressure on the material in the right way to get it to fracture where we want. There's a video on YT called 'Iscar Chip Formation' that's got slow motion footage of what happens in the cut.

You are correct, it is more of a sharing action to cause the metal to break along a grain line. Yes, and it also reduces axial pressure which can be critical for smaller machines to be able to retain accuracy without the need for multiple spring passes. In addition it greatly reduces heat generated due to the ball's center region "rubbing" the material.

The kids always say I don’t know what I’m talking about but WTF do they know!!! I feel the 2 very nice models you have access to could help me tremendously in the classroom… one day this kids mom said I was rude to her son so I told her to fuck off or suck me off!!! John at NYC CNC did a video on a tour of AB tools. He shows the making of end mills and how they grind them from carbide blanks. Check it out, search "NYC CNC AB Tools"
Great series on cutters. Any chance of showing proper sharpening practices? I just got a used cuttermaster and although it seems straightforward it seems to be an art form.
Thanks, With the more advanced end mill geometry today, coatings, and other factors, I don't think to many people sharpen in house. Drill bits yes, but even some of the biggest shops around my area send there stuff out that I know of. As for drill bits, there are far more qualified people on RUclips that have made pretty nice sharpening videos already. So most likely wont see a sharpening video from me. I do have a bunch of very large HSS end mills that need to be sharpened though if you need practice ;)
If you are not in a big hurry I would be glad to sharpen them for you. I can only do sizes that fit in a 5C collet though. I am new to CNC and your videos have helped me quite a bit decide what machine to get. Glad to repay you with some labor!
I think all of them are 1" shank so they should fit, cutter diameters are 1" to 2" I think. They where donated by another viewer but I have not had a chance to get them sharpened. If you would like to have at them I can send some your way. No timeline, very appreciative of the offer, thank you. Send me an email, its in the description if you would like them shipped.
For any type of laminates they make end mills with a helix that converges in the center. That way the cutting forces tend to compress the material together and reduce chipping on one side you see with normal end mills.

What is the effect of helix angle in drilling process?
Helix angle of a drill controls chip evacuation. The harder the material the higher the helix should be.

Corner radius is most likely not going to solve the issue. You may need some specialty cutters for the application.
