  • Hello all, i visited the Swanage Railway for the first time earlier this year, for their 2023 diesel gala.
Thoroughly enjoyed my trip and thought id show you all the footage i got!
Id recommend a visit, it was well worth the trip down to the coast, Corfe Castle Station being the obvious highlight!
Thanks to all at Swanage who made this all happen.

It will be lovely to see the dear old Swanage Railway!! Even though I’m not a diesel lover, I can appreciate watching ANY train.

Loving the drone footage mate. Excellent video. You can always guarantee that the Swanage Diesel Gala is a great one and no exception this year. 50021 looked amazing and a credit to all those who work on her.

My first encounter with Swanage station was in '77. The track has been pulled up (Dr Beeching), and volunteers and enthusiasts had just restored the station building at Swanage; I remember the strong smell of paint. There was bunting on the station building because '77 was Her Majesty's Silver Jubilee that year.
I remember walking, daily, to my campsite at Harmens Cross, along the old track bed. The ballast was still there, but the track had been lifted.
It is lovely to see that the Heritage Railway has managed to reconnect the track to the mainline at Wareham.
Eric, excellent air footage; it brings back so many happy memories. I was thirteen then and still remember the warm summer evenings walking along the trackbed at 20:30 hrs. I'm fifty-nine now.

Glad that car didn't get you on the bridge.
Excellent video with superb drone work too. Drone footage like that is useful for railway modellers, as it's the viewpoint of our layouts most of the time!

My love of 1930s to 80s Tube rolling stock led me to this channel, and here we have a video about an event on a railway that's a couple of hundred metres away from my flat; within tooting distance.
I'm also getting quite fond of 47s, 50s, and of course, 45s, as well as a few first generation DMU and EMUs.
Diesel's not got the same buzz for me as A, C, O/P and R Stock, but definitely a tingle.
Awesome footage. Thanks. I'm wondering what D345 is.

Do they still only run from Swanage to Norden? Or do they now run through to Dorchester?

They run a regular service to wareham now with their DMUs for a mainline connection
