Legit. I can't even tell the difference between the two. Either people are greatly exaggerating this out of proportion, or they did an awful job for what they were trying to achieve
It's necessary when doing business with a foolish country. Hollywood also adjusts its movies to fit the standards of Muslim countries and China, right?
If they really want to cover up then they should only focus on newer games with a new art style. Tracing over Toriyama's work just to hide tight, tan clothes just feels scummy and disingenuous for the consumers.
I'm not a fan of DB, but I'm a passing fan of DQ. Toriyama's artstyle is one of the last few that replicates the old anime aesthetics of the 80's/90's. To get rid of that would not only be an insult to Toriyama, but the history of Japanese animation itself.
Also it speaks volyms how big of cowards they are. They didn't dear to go after the man's work when he was alive. But they do it when he is dead. Because they are acting real ghoulish.
While I think female characters' outfits are an incredibly incidental thing to be upset over, I will say it is very strange and hypocritical that the left says women being openly sexual is empowering, but then hate it when female characters are sexualized. Like...what do they really want then?
@NormanReaddis we just got to not spend money on it for it to hurt and if Japanese gamers aren't happy with this shit get loud and shit they can socially shame these Japanese companies and increase preassure on the Japanese companies to change course.

The biggest question mark is why even change Male and Female to Type A or Type B? its still basically Male and Female just with a different label.
There's an old South Park episode (the original 'Mr. Hanky' episode, if I remember correct) that tackles censorship. It starts off small, then before you know it, everyone is getting offended at everything, and it ruins the holiday season for everyone. "Censorship is telling a man he can't eat his steak because a baby can't chew it." - Mark Twain (I think)
That's crazy " they need to make more games were the women are sexy and strong like stellar blade ❤💯👀👍👍the more skin the better ": great video my beautiful queen ❤❤❤❤
He isn't "fighting back", just voicing displeasure. "Fighting back" would amount to do away with all semblances of censorship entirely. Sorry but, as long as it stays censored, I'm not buying it. Actions speak louder than words.
@@Go_ki_bu_ri Baby steps when the game is this close to release and went gold two weeks ago? Doesn't work. They could start with simply renaming Type 1 and Type 2 (or A and B) to their proper names. It's not that hard to do. For the record, I don't buy Square suddenly wanting to get rid of woke after so many games with it either. Sweet Baby isn't the sole woke company to exist.
@@brtruev1710 - I hadn't been following the game too closely, so I wasn't aware of the release date, and thought it was still coming next year or so, so that influenced my comment. My bad. Squeenix has its own internal department too, so yes, but if the company sill works the way I've heard Japanese publishers work, if the pushback from the local market will mean anything to them, they may delay release to make changes if Japanese customers won't buy it. I only have translations to go off, but if they're any indication, even negative feedback, for example, AC Shadows, can be much more polite than most western users. One quote that seems to have gained some fame was from this user. “Why are you doing this?,” @spider0244 proclaimed (as machine translated via DeepL). “Why would they do this to a female Warrior in a remake of Dragon Quest III, one of the milestones of the Japanese bikini armor culture? Everyone involved should apologize at Akira Toriyama’s grave. If you’re going to give in to the political correctness, don’t do it with his designs.” If this reflects the opinions of the Japanese domestic market, they may have a problem.
@@Go_ki_bu_ri The game went gold in September 14, so two weeks have passed. As for AC Shadows, that's a different kettle of fish. Even discounting the game not looking that good and the controversy, Ubisoft themselves are being extremely toxic towards the gamers. Delaying it to 2025 will do more harm than help because it'll directly compete with GTA VI (the exact same thing they did with Rayman Legends back in the day). Regarding DQ3 HD, I'd expect, at least, the creator trying to reassure people something would be done (a day 1 patch could easily solve the issue) instead of going on a tirade and not giving anything concrete.
Akira is literally dead his work shouldn't be mutilated for preservation purposes. Like this should be a given because guess what all those old romantic paintings in museums. Guess what some of them were made purely for the eye candy and you don't see restorationists adding clothes on history. This is actually disgusting when you realize Akira is partially being erased and he JUST DIED.
Preservation? This isn't preservation, it's a cash cow. Remakes aren't preservation. That being said, I agree. TGS has an online event they hold ever year and this year they had a mini museum for Dragon Quest. It was hilarious and disgusting to see the censored DQ3 remake artwork right across the way from the uncensored original artwork counterparts. There's just no shame.
I heard about this previously, but I don't know if it still holds, but the way Japanese publishers supposedly work is to consider the local market first. Largely because of the language barrier, it's simpler to get feedback from the domestic customer base. One of the biggest of which is Akiba. If the sentiment expressed by the creators themselves is any indication, safe to say Japanese gamers are similarly displeased. And you're right...they will talk with their wallets. If they find out it won't sell in the domestic market, they will start feeling the pressure. I doubt they want to be as humiliated as Dustborn was at TGS.
@@Go_ki_bu_ri Japan doesn't play around when it comes to dissatisfaction. Unlike the West, they are not afraid to bury a company. That being said, many Japanese publishers have been alienating their Japanese demographic more and more lately in favor for the American demographic. Which is a terrible mistake
@@jase276 - I'll take the alienation of the domestic market with a grain of salt. Shortly after I posted my original comment, the video of the interview with Torishima and Horii was released here on YT. JP publishers might've been persuaded to think it was a good idea, but I'd like to see which way the JP buyers vote with their wallets.
Akira is gone, RIP, and Squeenix is woke. As far as I'm concerned, Sandlands is the last project he worked on, this franchise is done. It won't ever look like DQ again.
I could careless about body type A or B. It's when Original creations are censored for the modern audience. If it's a New game, fine, it might not sale, but that's their choice. Do Not Censor OG designs!
Yes it is when you mess with somebody's work they keep saying that is not a problem yes it is if it wasn't a problem why did you change it and as a person who draws and actually creates my own stuff I wouldn't want these people messing with the artwork I create its like vandalism or spitting in the face of the artist🤦
We need to fight back against the censorship. WE HAVE TO! I still plan to buy Dragon Quest III HD-2D because i don't want this franchise to die again in the West. I say this because this has happened before. Twice. The first time happened after 1992 when Enix didn't release any more DQ games after the fourth entry. That and three years later, Enix shut down their US branch. Then again in the year 2001 with the release of Dragon Warrior VII. I don't want it to happen again.
They try to justify it with "it's hot, so of course she'd wear something under the armor". But it's fantasy. They're fighting dragons and sentient balls of slime, why tf are we hyper focusing on this random aspect as if it were suddenly reality now?
They had such a good concept that would have made this collection great. But censorship ruined it. Toriyama would not have approved this. Chunsoft > Square Enix
They don't have a spine, they are all talk just to save face and avoid gamers crosshairs. If they did have a spine they would fight to stop these rampant censorships but no they are just sitting there, letting these censorships go through and be like: "Hey gamers, I am on your side, I am not happy too, don't @ me."
The thing is, for dragon quest 3 if you not pay: "BSnes, load rom" and you have the full experience. Same goes for Xenoblade Chronicles X and Tokyo Mirage session: "cemu load (restoration patched) iso" and you have full experience. While the remastered give less than the original why should i buy. The bigger problem: new games are gives even less ... nowadays new anime games from Japan gives less than the Chinese ones (anime and especially manga are still fine but the games? )
fighting back after the fact. If they really cared they would have pushed hard enough to not have to do this or they would have refused to make it. Complaining about it now after theyve already censored it does nothing.
You do know they could have threatened to do the whole thing without him right? Horii must’ve realized that the game would absolutely be ruined if he wasn’t involved. And given that it’s a remake of Dragon Quest THREE, once it was announced, there was just no going back without explanation, otherwise half of Japan would force him to commit seppuku.
If they're upset over these character's Attire they should go look at 'Margaret Brundage', the illustration artist for 'Weird Tales' back in 1930's and later the illustrator, 'Mort Kunstlar' for 'Conan the Barbarian' 1950
Well the mona lisa wasnt originally painted with a beard and a hairy chest. So who is going to care if i add one to the source file for every recreation that is available to buy, so that its inpossible to buy a recreation of the original. And were just gonna take the original and put it in a vault and loose the vault, then put my censored one on display. Because obviously Davinci didnt know what xze was doing when they painted it with so much cleavage visible. Not only that but it wasn’t sensitive to modern sensibilities thus it must be changed. I mean… its just a tiny change that doesn’t really matter anyway.
It does seem silly for SE to feel those outfit changes are needed because they feel they’ll lose too many sales by the game being T instead of E10+. I could be wrong but it seems like sales in the West aren’t affected much between T and E10+ games
Something you should know, the banning of games in Australia for drug use is old information. Australia hasn't had a game banned since the government introduced the 18+ rating for video games. Before that they were restricted to a 15+ rating, limiting what content could be shown on screen and thats why many were banned
I hope that DQ 12 does come out over here. Having announced the game three years back that they are aiming for a higher age demographic with the title, it could mean that Toriyama and Bird Studio would have had greater freedom in creating riskier character designs
The problem with this sort of decission is not the present, is not even the revision of the past either. It is...the future. By being obsessed with being "safe" for everyone you are also...well, being safe for everyone, you will not escandalize anyone, you will not provoke anyone, you will not impact anyone. If we are seeing a remake of an almost 30 years game is because back then someone had the guts to say "yeah, lets gonna put this" and thats the reason it became an icon. Tifa became virtual sex symbol because 20+ years ago all the horny teenagers played a game where she was a girl with tits so massive she needed ortopedic underwear. We are seing a remake of FFVII because the game SHOCKED the audience. In 20 years do you think anyone will remember the deadpan games done now? Games that didn't provoke or had anything memorable on them?

The biggest question mark is why even change Male and Female to Type A or Type B? its still basically Male and Female just with a different label.
Modern day woke devs say we must respect them then disrespect the entire history of the game industry
We need a Patch to Remove the Censorship as an "Option".
The second they censored Akira Toriyamas work i removed it from my list
That's crazy " they need to make more games were the women are sexy and strong like stellar blade ❤💯👀👍👍the more skin the better ": great video my beautiful queen ❤❤❤❤
I hate that they want censorship in Asian games but they praise the surgical scars on the top in Dragon Age the veilguard.
He isn't "fighting back", just voicing displeasure. "Fighting back" would amount to do away with all semblances of censorship entirely.
Sorry but, as long as it stays censored, I'm not buying it. Actions speak louder than words.
Baby steps, friend. There're procedures for things like this, which unfortunately is the same reason some things take more time than we'd like.
If you’re going to give in to the political correctness, don’t do it with his designs.”
If this reflects the opinions of the Japanese domestic market, they may have a problem.
DEIに不満すら言わない欧米のクリエイターたちと比べて日本のクリエイターのがまともだけどな😂
Akira is literally dead his work shouldn't be mutilated for preservation purposes. Like this should be a given because guess what all those old romantic paintings in museums. Guess what some of them were made purely for the eye candy and you don't see restorationists adding clothes on history. This is actually disgusting when you realize Akira is partially being erased and he JUST DIED.
Poor thing😢👍🏻
They don't even let him rest in peace... These idiots!😠🤦🏻♂️
They know best what we are allowed to like and love! Consume product!
Boycott it until they restore his original designs. The only thing these companies hear is money so always make sure to talk with your wallets.
I'd be pretty pissed off over that, too.
This makes me scared for Dragon Quest 12. I don't wanna lose another series I love.
Let them put the changes into the game, BUT leave us an option to choose "original artstyle". Make it a choice and stop deciding for us.
This is also disrespectful to Akira toiryama creations
I don't support censorship so I won't buy it!
I refuse to pay for censorship.
Yes it is when you mess with somebody's work they keep saying that is not a problem yes it is if it wasn't a problem why did you change it and as a person who draws and actually creates my own stuff I wouldn't want these people messing with the artwork I create its like vandalism or spitting in the face of the artist🤦
They should find another publisher in the west. If they can't even get this right they have no business doing... business.
Vara in a chaimail bikini? Okay, I'm sold!
Even Elon Musk disapproved of the dragon quest changes when he commented on X about the interview that was given about the changes.
You should totally wear a chainmail bikini, then share picture of them with the internet. Requesting for a friend.
If its not a big deal why do it at all? While we're at it, why do you feel "threatened" by a object
Why can't we have funny and skimpy things again?
This is also happening to Soul Reaver 1/2 Remastered. Sad to see
We need to fight back against the censorship.
So to fight back against censorship you're going to buy the censored product? Well, you sure showed them.
The redesign doesn't even make sense. Why would she wear bikini armor over khanki shorts? Reminds of Quailman from Doug.
They try to justify it with "it's hot, so of course she'd wear something under the armor". But it's fantasy. They're fighting dragons and sentient balls of slime, why tf are we hyper focusing on this random aspect as if it were suddenly reality now?
They really just classify women as "B" or "2"
Then they said it was more respectful to women
They had such a good concept that would have made this collection great. But censorship ruined it. Toriyama would not have approved this.
Chunsoft > Square Enix
This is great to hear. It is interesting that seemingly only the East has a spine.
I guess we’ll be supporting those studios more.
How do they have a spine? The game is still censored and coming out like that.
My answer to censorship comes from the Duke...."Suck it down."
Glad to hear Yuji Horii speaking out about this. I will skip this game, I can’t support this, it’s just disrespectful to Toriyama.
The bigger problem: new games are gives even less ... nowadays new anime games from Japan gives less than the Chinese ones (anime and especially manga are still fine but the games? )
I was going to pre-order it for Switch.
I'm no longer.
fighting back after the fact.
I dont think you understand how many forces are at work
@@paperluigi6132 well then you're still proving the point that he cared more about money and reputation than his principles
@@RaginCanadian-gx2zl they're cowards, pure and simple. And greedy since they accept the money gladly.
@@JohnDoe-pt7ru principles dont pay bills and he doesnt have that kind of power. Stop being obtuse.
This game is made with love and his creator of course will be mad
Guess Square is cleaning up, Maybe KH4 can still be saved from the weirdos
Something you should know, the banning of games in Australia for drug use is old information. Australia hasn't had a game banned since the government introduced the 18+ rating for video games. Before that they were restricted to a 15+ rating, limiting what content could be shown on screen and thats why many were banned
As a former Guilty Gear fan, let me welcome my Dragon Quest brothers who also had their franchise ruined for the sake of Californian investors.
「ただ言ってるだけ」とかほざいてる外人おるけど、何も言わないアメリカのゲームクリエイターよりマシじゃね?
I hope that DQ 12 does come out over here. Having announced the game three years back that they are aiming for a higher age demographic with the title, it could mean that Toriyama and Bird Studio would have had greater freedom in creating riskier character designs
Sweet baby gonna change their name and then Square Enix will hit them up again
Can we call it fantasy or escapism if some people want to inject reality into it ?
I'm glad they feel this way, but they said nothing of a removal. I'll just play the original in 3dSen, thanks.
"It's not a big problem, it's just some more cloth"
"If it's not a big problem, them why change the original design at all?"
"Because then it's a big problem"
Nice to see he agrees, unfortunately I'm still not buying any product that is censored in any way.
I'm hoping and praying that they don't do any censorship whatsoever in Dragon Quest 12.
The late Akira Toriyama died exactly 7 months ago, and now wokávists are vandalizing his art too?!😡
Boycott these practices
