Go Linda!!! The great memories of the 70's....What a voice, such talent. So sad that she is sick with Parkinson's Disease , she misses singing. May God Bless you and thank you for all the great music yo have given us
Love you Linda - great pipes, fine band and a dream to gaze upon. High School wouldn't be the same without you. Now more than ever that voice knocks ones heart out.
As an interpreter, Linda Ronstadt is kicking Buddy Holly's ass here...a great example of Linda and her band in their prime...seen this whole show, and it just seems like a special night where all cylinders are revving...love Michael Botts tight drumming (and excellent snare tuning) that gives a solid foundation for both this excellent band and Linda's amazing set of pipes...some serious jaw-droppin, mesmerizing vocal moments in this show...wow...performance for the ages...Damn; wish I coulda been there...
daniel leary UMMMM YES THERE IS. CARRIE UNDERWOOD MARTINA MCBRIDE KELLY CLARKSON BRITNEY SPEARS CHRISTINA AGUILERA JENNIFER LOPEZ MIRANDA LAMBERT TRISHA YEARWOOD ARE ALL AS TALENTED AS LINDA RONSTADT
My stars where have I been???? I've searching her concerts for what seems forever on youtube. How in the name of granny's undies did I miss this freaking masterpiece of vids? Thank you, thank you, thank you, for uploading these dreams! Wow.........~!
Those were the days... With all passion for Linda, one should not forget about her incredible band - they make it rock! Since then I have been a huge fan of Waddy who is always delivering delicious guitar work. He keeps it as simple as possible, his soloing is to the point and the song comes first.
LOVE Linda Ronstadt* =)Sang this song in the 1st grade in a talent show against my sisters who were in the junior high and danced.. I won =)Great memory Thank you for sharing, God bless* Peace!
yvieuk SHE WAS NOT ROCK AT ALL AT ANY POINT IN HER ENTIRE LIFE. I AM ONLY 24 AND KNOW THAT. I CAN'T TELL YOU HOW MANY TIMES I'VE HAD TO CORRECT PEOPLE WHEN THEY SAID SHE WAS ROCK. YOU WANT FEMALE ROCK FROM 70s/80s LISTEN TO EQUALLY TALENTED JOAN JETT AND EQUALLY TALENTED PAT BENETAR. YOU WANT GREAT COUNTRY/BLUES FROM 70s/80s LISTEN TO EQUALLY TALENTED BONNIE RAITT AND LINDA RONSTADT. THE CLOSEST TO ROCK I HAVE EVER HEARD FROM LINDA IS HER TALENTED VERSION OF THE ORIGINAL SHITTY TELL HIM
I love her versions of this when she sings those high octave chorus lines, ala 1:48 and 1:56. She nailed them here. Sorta thing that even the band member got chills over I bet. Waddy is one lucky dude to have played with her so much, and get paid to do so!
Nobody but Linda could equal the original, Buddy Holly, on this fantastic rocker. What a voice. For my money, she tops the originals of Heat Wave and When Will I Be Loved.
Thanks for all the uploads, PretzelFarmer. Linda is my favorite female artist of all time. So much power, emotion, range. Oh, and beautiful to boot. Check out her expressions from 1:35-1:50. I don't think I've ever seen her so loose and comfortable. The cute sneer at 1:37 is the best. Check out her expressions from 1:35-1:50Just priceless.
On this day in 1976 {November 11th} Linda Ronstadt performed live for the first time in the United Kingdom when she appeared at the Hammersmith Odeon* in London, England... At the time her covered version of "That'll Be the Day" was at #35 on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; three weeks earlier on October 17th, 1976 it peaked at #11 {for 2 weeks}... Two days later she appeared at the New Victoria Theater, which is also in London... And exactly three years later on Nov. 11th, 1979 she performed at a presidential campaign fund raiser for California governor Jerry Brown; the concert was at the San Diego Sports Arena, and also appearing were the Eagles and Chicago... * Twelve months earlier on Nov. 18th, 1975 Bruce Springsteen also made his UK debut at the Hammersmith Odeon...
Every cover she ever did was better than the original. Sold more records than any other female and most men in the 70's and still not in the Rock N Roll HOF!
I didn´t watch this on tv because I didn´t know "Rockpalast" in 1976. The first great Rockpalast expierience was the Night in July 77, when Rory got the party started! Thans for posting this event presented by the great WDR
mannythanx You said it Manny!!! I was surprised to see Linda Rostadt's latest video confirming her Parkinsons condition. She is heavier now and can no longer sing. But while watching the video I loved her smile and still think she is so cute!!
She was all the nice guys' dream girl. And that was precisely because she was so beautiful, with those deep wide-set dark eyes, her lovely smile with her personal tooth pattern making it so irresistible, those cute girlish cheeks and a speaking voice so full of intelligence, warmth, and fun - and making absolutely no show about it. Same with her not wearing bras - she made so little show about it that I today haven't even an approximate idea of when she started wearing bras. It wasn't important.
I feel the same as you. I am guessing from the tone of your comment you are male and I am female but I share your nostalgia for the 70s. Linda was amazing - her own clothes (which she almost certainly chose herself and put on herself) and that pure, layered voice, just singing the song. To her, the song was the thing not the me me me cry of this generation. "I am so gorgeous", "I am so sexy". All songs now seem to give that message - "I am hot" - it is such a turn-off.
Just liked some of the comments. She is my favourite singer. She seems modest in herself. She is sexy here, I think but she looks natural and just pretty (not glossy, hot, sex on legs, just herself in her own outfit) and her voice blows any pop or rock voice before or since out of the water. Her band are great too. There have been changes over the years but to my mind each and every one of them does her proud.
Offenbach, Germany was where my great-grandparents lived for a little over a year after fleeing Proskurov, Kingdom of Russia and prior to coming to the USA.
Girl has pipes. Whatever happened to women rockers? Linda, Carly, Anne and Nancy, Bonnie, Janis...they were so damn good they are still known by their first names alone!
UTubeMeTubeWeTube ANN Wilson disrespectful dumb shit. Not ANNE. HAVE RESPECT FOR HER AND SPELL HER NAME RIGHT. I am only 24 and know who you're talking about. ALSO NANCY SHITNATRA IS A DAMN JOKE JUST LIKE HER HUSBAND FRANK WAS. THERE AINT NO TALENT WHEN IT COMES TO THE LAST NAME OF SINATRA. I JUST NOTICED YOU PUT JANICE JOPLEN AS WELL. SHE IS JUST AS SHITTY AS THE SHITNATRAS. NOTHING GOOD HAS EVER CAME FROM THE MOUTHS OF EITHER OF THE SHITNATRAS OR JANICE JOPLEN (SPELLED HER NAME WRONG ON PURPOSE BECAUSE I HONESTLY SEE NO REASON TO RESPECT GARBAGE LIKE HER). FRANK NANCY AND JANICE ARE THREE OF THE BIGGEST NO TALENT JOKES ON THE PLANET. and which Bonnie are you talking about??? Talented raitt or EQUALLY talented Bonnie Tyler
Interesting that she was from Tuscon, AZ not too far from Lubbock TX and Clovis, NM where Buddy Holly roamed. She really has a knack for the Buddy Holly covers. All of em!!!
Its a good cover--doesn't blow away the original, but Linda gives her own interpretation and doesn't try to copy Holly--makes the song her own--that's why its lasted.

This shows how much power she has in voice, Linda has a Amazing range and control always the best of the best ❤🎶
Go Linda!!! The great memories of the 70's....What a voice, such talent. So sad that she is sick with Parkinson's Disease , she misses singing. May God Bless you and thank you for all the great music yo have given us
Linda sends chills up my spine everytime she sings, whether country, folk, or Gershwin with Nelson Riddle. She is a national treasure...Go Linda!!
Linda's music is my medicine, my go to music for happiness. Praying for her health.
THEY BLOW ME AWAY 35 YRS LATER. LINDA RONDSTAT AND BAND ROCK!!!!!!!!!
Love you Linda - great pipes, fine band and a dream to gaze upon. High School wouldn't be the same without you. Now more than ever that voice knocks ones heart out.
Absolutely beautiful. Talented. And from all that I’ve seen and read, a really nice person. What a voice... and man that face. Wow.
Most other female vocalists aren't fit to wipe her boots. Tremendous singer and great bands.
Amen.
Agree, Pat Benatar had a super voice as well.
Luv when she gives that little squeal before the first solo!
Linda can sing it soft and sweet or just belt it out. What a talent! Ira Lee, Ph.D.
When she grabbed someone's song she would turn it into Pure Gold!
When I saw here in Concert she talked around 5 minutes about Buddy Holly. He would be very proud of this version

Five octave range gave Linda the edge on most female vocalists !!!... and...she was so Cool !!!

Waddy and Andrew Gold as gunslingers .... what a dangerous Duo !!!
Linda makes the junk on American Idol look ridiculous. No lip sync, no backup, just damn good music from one fine singer.
great voice,great song!
Nobody but Linda could equal the original, Buddy Holly, on this fantastic rocker. What a voice. For my money, she tops the originals of Heat Wave and When Will I Be Loved.

Back in the 70's all my friends had the Farrah Fawcett poster...I had Linda's watching over me from the foot of my bed...
This lady always turned heads, she was great!
She was all the nice guys' dream girl. A Southwestern girl, Linda.God bless her.
I think that Buddy Holly would've liked this version very much. Mrs. Ronstadt never fails to do a good cover of a classic tune. I like it, anyway.
thanks for sharing !!!
Linda means "beautiful in spanish...enough said...rock on baby..
What a tight band!
Give it to me the Linda!

Who is the handsome man with the beard playing guitar next to her? Andrew Gold? Looks like J. D. Souther.
And Woody holdin' it all together.
Da hear you calling baby
@norby0418 Yeah it's a disgrace. Linda was the most versatile singer of her generation and could sing all these wannabe's now right off the stage.
I love Linda Ronstadt. Does she have any other Buddy Holly covers besides this one and "It doesn't matter anymore"?
+MrJohnny583 "It's so Easy."
+David S. Thank you
@jf21557 then he went w/ Stevie Nicks and to this day is her touring guitarist and band leader.. not bad..

I read the comments here, and everyone will agree that Linda is beautiful, and a great singer. However she had one fatal flaw. She couldn't keep her mouth shut about her left wing politics. She was literally thrown out of a casino in Las Vegas in the middle of one of her concerts. They wouldn't even let her collect her bags from her room ...said they would send them to her. She kept saying what a great guy Michael Moore was. It cost her her career . She never did much after that then she got Parkinson's disease....can't carry a tune in a bucket now. It was all downhill after her political spiel in Vegas.
patriot patriot bullshit. I was there that is not what happened. At the end of the show, she told folks to go see Moore's film, some cheered, some booed. Linda sang her encore "Desperado" and most cheered again. Then she left the hotel with her manager and bandmates. She wasn't staying at the hotel anyway. The Hotel manager lied for publicity and the Aladdin soon after went bankrupt. She never sang her policy beliefs anyway. Oh how's that Iraqi war working out for you radical right wing grifters?
Get a life, you talentless nazi.
