The figure 4 Deadfall is probably the most widely known and recognized primitive trap. It is fairly simple to make once you are familiar with it. There are numerous ways to set up a figure 4 deadfall. The method of carving the figure 4 in this video is the way I have come to carve my sets based on trial and error. Primitive traps are almost always illegal to use outside of a true survival scenario however, it is good practice using your bushcraft knife and knowing how to make primitive traps is good knowledge to possess just in case. The figure 4 trap trigger is a very versatile trigger and can be used in many ways other than supporting a deadfall. Simple trap triggers like the figure 4 are fun to make and tinker with and will help further your bushcraft skills and survival skills for food gathering. Also, it will give you experience utilizing natural resources to construct useful items in the field. Check out this video to see an couple of deadfall traps in action and learn how to make your own! really nice. I like the way you carved the notch on the bait stick.
Thank you so much for dropping in Lilly! I appreciate you leaving a comment as well. I will do an update video on the figure 4 before too long as I have made one other slight mod which I think makes larger diameter traps be more sensitive. I love tinkering with these traps. I know there are a hundred ways to do these which kind of makes it interesting to experiment with. Keep up the great work sharing your journey! Take care.
Very Nice, Matt. That's the clearest I've ever heard that trap explained.
very well done brother..glad to see your video pop up in the feed.

I really appreciate that Frank and I promise I am working on it. There have been a lot of setbacks in the last year that messed up my weekly schedule but hopefully, things are looking up. I miss it as well!
The most simple explanation of figure 4 trap I've seen. Very well done Matt!

Great video and tips on the figure 4 deadfall!
Great vid Matt,
Thank you so much Don! Most appreciated brother!
Great info once again and well delivered. I've also found that a "Y" stick will also work well for the fulcrum stick....less carving and still quite sensitive.
Thanks for the new video Matt! Full of great information as usual
Thank you so much Jerry!
Well done, Thank you

Thank you so much Randy!
Very helpful, never made these, but I do make L7 snares, mainly for larger game, but this is good to know for small game, thx for the vid.
L7 is a great trigger indeed William! I appreciate your time and interest!
A wonderful setup you did a great job with the video. I, myself, don't really care for this setup for myself. I learned it and used it but just never really liked using it.
I totally understand my friend. I have often been critical of the figure 4 but spending a good bit of time messing with, I have come to value it quite a bit more. There a many good options out there to choose from indeed. Thanks for tuning in sir!
Veery well done. Grt explanation. Glad to see ur video pop up. Thx
I really appreciate that Robert.
Well done!
Thank you so much!
Great video Matt. I'm gonna write it down in my book................... ✝✝✝👍👍
Thank you so much Joseph! I am glad you enjoyed this one and I hope it is helpful!
Hey, Can you make a tarppole video?
I have been watching you for the last sevearl years or so, Ive seen you pitch up hammocks, tarps, Ponchos and tents, ridge lines, guy lines, tie
bowlines, filter water to get the munchies out then boil up the water to kill the Bactria, discuss packs, make haversacks, talk about knives
and kukri 's and hatchets... All good and all fun to watch but the one thing I'd like to see is, how to find water in the "wilderness" that's
not in a lake, pond, river or creek ... How about doing that
I appreciate your long term support and views my friend! That means a lot to me. I did do a couple of videos that I think may sort of fit into that category. One of them was in regards to a rain catchment system and the other was demonstrating the use of a coyote well to get ground water. I will try to keep your idea in mind the next opportunity I have to show other options as well. Thank you again for all your support!
@@blackhatbushcraft yes Matt I caught both of those you and corporeal's corner did exultant video's on rain catchment how ever as you know it doesn't rain all the time and the Gypsy/Coyote well requires a stream in close proximity, I'm thinking more on the line of a spring
You show your fulcrum stick with 2 flat sides the next shot it has 3 flats ? Is this because you made the chisel on the wrong side initially cheers.
Micro-trapping: the chicken Nugs of the forest! 😊
Yes sir! Hope you are doing well Chad!
I think a squirrel can chew through a wood trap. I caught one in my small chipmunk metal trap and he chewed through it.
👍👍👍
Hey man i watched tons of your videos and i really like what your doing and even learned and built many things that i learned from you, but i was interested in having a book on wilderness survival, do you have any good recommendations?
Thank you so much for your kind words and interest Joshua! I appreciate the support and I am glad my work here has been beneficial for you! There are so many great resources out there as far as books. To make an easy list and source for you I have a tab in my Amazon page called "Books and Resources." If you look down in the description of this video, you will see the Amazon link there. Anything you see in that list would be more than worth purchasing for the knowledge they contain. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask at anytime my friend! Take care.
@@blackhatbushcraft Thanks for the fast reply, i apreciate it and will continue watching your videos. God bless you and your family friend!
Nope! No squirrels! Not me! I'd rather starve than kill a squirrel. And yes, I know what it's like to starve.
I understand. I am not one for taking any animal lightly. That is a decision each person must make for themselves. I respect your decision to do as you feel right.
