  • MESA/Boogie Founder, Designer and President, Randall Smith, tells a few more stories from the early days of the original boutique amplifier company.
Randall talks about how the names MESA/Boogie and Mesa Engineering came to be and how Carlos Santana helped with the naming of the company. We also hear the story of Carlos' first experience with what was originally intended as a practical joke and went on to become the first Boogie guitar amp! Randy also gives thanks to all the players who believed in the company in the early days... AND NOW!
Randall and the Mesa team continues our commitment of over 40 years to designing and hand building the ultimate instruments for electric guitar and bass, allowing you to find and define your musical voice. From Randall and all of us, thank you for choosing us to be a part of your musical expression and to be your amplifier company. Enjoy!

I'm sitting next to that little piece of that magic right now, and grateful for it. In the twelve years I've had this MK1 I've only needed to change the tubes once. I don't think I have ever payed a gig where I didn't get complimented on the sound. I believe it also helped me get laid, at least a couple of times.

I've had plenty of amps (different brands), and never really settled till i played a single chord and bought the rectoverb combo. Amazing tone, constant coments on tone from other musos, and the longest time i've ever stayed on one amp. Traded a mark 4 for it which was killer too, just found the tone and simplicity of the recto's to easy and satisfying. all modes extremly usefull and covers so many tone/music style types. Thankyou Randal for the passionate input you have with the amps.

Still have my 1982 Son of Boogie & use it often. Boogies are great amps. I don't know what I'd do if I had to replace mine.

I've got a Dual Rectifier I've had for about 4 years, I don't plan on selling it. I think I'd just get another or a triple or road king before trying a different company out.
