👆 So after you've finished smirking at the name (I know - who calls their amp a King Snake?) get ready to fall in love with this small but powerful guitar combo. Designed to capture all the tones that the 1st turned Carlos Santana on to Boogie amps in the first place, the King Snake is a cracking sounding little amp.
Want to know more?? Well follow this link for all the spec, pricing and all that gas. bit.ly/1B0GZA6
This is super limited, Maria Maria, Black Magic Woman, Smooth, Supernatural sounding amp.... So get one before they're all gone.
Cheers to Peter Honore for doing his bestest Carlos Santan impression - I thought he sounded great. What did you think??
BTW - absolutely no pedals were harmed (or used) in this video!
Cheers
Lee
i'm a 69yr old guitar player and i've played through most amps. it was my birthday so i bought this amp. owned most of them over the years but not a boogie. here in rip off britain i paid nearly double what the americans pay for theirs. it's the best amp i have ever owned. i love it. what a beautiful sounding amp. it covers all genres.
+John James McCartney If it makes you feel any better, we Americans buy Marshalls at a pretty decent markup versus you folks across the pond.
Brannon Cody ....even worse is the price for an Orange. Even higher used resale than a Toyota!
I spent more on a Marshall stack + a Combo Pedal plus reverb, boost and wahwah + a Gibson LP Studio 2 than I did on my car. £7K for the stack, £3K for the pedals and £1.9K for the LP. That's right nearly £12K just for my gear. My car? Less than £4K. That's Britain for you though.
mine is fantastic too ill never sell it. wonderfull amp it genuinely is.
OK I have heard lots of amplifier demo's, but this amp really dose get my heart pumping
So I bought mine used for $2700US Jan 2017 and use it in combo with a Helix where some of my patches bypass the preamp and use the power stage and some go in front on channel 1. This is the best sound I've ever had compared to my AC30 mid 90's with massive pedals and channel switching. But I nailed the U2 edge sound with that for rhythm and also through soldano pedal, ethos pedal nailed the santana lead sound. This set up for some reason with the Helix in four wire configuration sounds way better. Even with the U2 thing. The power amp plus the fillmore speaker makes the Helix come alive like no FRFR could come close (used atomic and mission FRFR -mission was way better). I use various strat, PRS Santana MD, EMG pickups, Gretsch setzer, Schon 80's guitars,70's Les Paul std, 70's tele with humbucker in the bridge etc. This helix king snake combo is the best I've ever sounded. Mega versatile. I added a Mesa Theile cab to it and attenuate through a Weber box and OMG! in the 60 watt mode it hits the sweet spot super easy, listenable and musical. I am a tone freak and I don't think I have hit the limit of what this set up can do. Super satisfied man! Thank God!!!!
Thank God indeed !
I like Lee's expression when Peter said 10 watts is for the bedroom. I have a 15 watt amp in my apartment that has never been past 1,5 out of 10, except when I've turned my guitar volume down almost all the way.
yes but there is a master volume so not an issue at all for home playing at all. sure it wont be cooking but it will sound fantastic im sure
So good to see a real demo of a great amp by a real player. Thank you.
When I started watching this video I thought sure Pete and Lee would be the one's to demo this amp but then Lee mentioned that Pete was from his is from before "Peter is from our friends at Boogie" This video is from before Pete joined the team at Andertons. It's cool to see how things change over the years. Glad we got to see more of the Danish Wonder! Oh and this amp is dope!
What an amazing amp with a glorious sound! BUT £2800 ? I'd have to sell a kidney...
just a kidney?? can i sell mine on ebay?
peter is my fav anderton's demo guy. tasty guitar licks. very tasty with a great feel.
I’ve tried them all over the years! Nothings comes close to Mesa Boogie!
I"m calling it-- best Danish Pete exampling his goddamned ownership of guitar whilst other people are within earshot. Man. He just knows what to play, and EXACTLY how to play it, when it comes to any demo. Lovin' him. Thx mate.
Great sounding amp and loved Peter's playing! If I had $3000 for an amp this would be a serious contender.
The Mesa amps may be crazy money but a guitar player I gig with quite a bit has only had one gigging amp (a Mesa Boogie 50W, not sure which model) in 15 years. It always sounds fabulous and it's never run out of volume yet. So if you factor in all the buying and selling of amps you go through when you can't get the sound you want, it works out ok in the long run.
That's the only mesa boogie sound that I really love.
Holy Moly! Watching this for the 1st when I clicked the above link in the Shin ‘s Pedal demo. Sad no Purple Tele around this time.
Such a crazy good sounding amp.. Way out of my price range currently, but god damn...those cleans are BEAUTIFUL.
Awwww... it's like looking through old baby photos 😄
Everything is blissful about this little/big amp... apart from the price. Beautiful...
Bloody hell that's a nice sweet sounding amp.
Ahh, one of Petes first times on Andertons. I love coming back to this video once in a while (this and the cab clone vid 😂) I'm also a huge fan of the Santana sound, but I get mine through a Mark V, more versatile.
I often come back here when I want some early Danish Pete. Anderton's lucked out by nabbing him from MESA too!
Its a nice warm sounding little amp great for collectors i think but its a silly price.
Got an ad for Carlos Santana's Masterclass. The irony.
I took it. Not bad
If I only had 2 more jobs
Then I would buy so much more gear at more reasonable price then this.
Yeah 1500 american, plus tax and shipping is a little much for a 1x12 combo
Frankie Holt 1500 dollars? I think you got price wrong.
wiziek Sweetwater had it listed on sale for that price...not surprised that it's sold out 2900 everywhere else
Make'n music had it for 999 also sold out
Love this amp!
OMG THAT TONE. Dare I'd be shot, the clean sounded better than the drive :o
Oh My gOd ! look at the size of that transformer 😳
Enjoyed the quick guitar change at 8'34" The guys a magician......
What a tasty sounding amp... Very rich and smooth.
I gigged in all sorts of venues with a Mark IIb and it works in any room... A road case is neccessary...
You babies!! Feedback is what Carlos Santana highlighted using that amp; sweet, creamy, warm tone, enhanced by “heavenly feedback”. Find the video of Santana feat. Gato Barbieri performing Europa!!!
Good stuff !
I like it. It's my kind of tone. I'm going to build one and see if I can get that circuit worked out.
Did you ever figure it out?
Great demonstration of the little monster
I have one. The reason they're so expensive is cause they're handmade, handwired. That's why there are only 400. It's fucking phenomenal...60 watts is fucking enough. I literally destroy ears with this thing. Then I can put a 4x12 cab and switch to 100 watts. The snakeskin reminds me of the California desert. I can understand the hate, but man it's Amazing.
Now what would have made it a real Throwback, you needed a Yamaha SG 2000!! Perfect Combination!! 🌟🌟
I'd go back further to Carlo's sunburst Les Paul with the Bill Lawrence " Super humbucking ' pickups........that was what he used during the Lotus band couple of years.
You can output the slave to another amp, using the Boogie for a distortion box.
I had a Mark 1 re issue... Even had the stick on Dymo labels on the back of the amp.
What a sweet amp it was.
I had an original Mark I back in the 70's. It was serial no. A276. It was a 60 watt with no eq. It came with an Altec 417 that was way too nasel sounding. I put in a D Series JBL but I blew it so I switched to an EVM 12L and never looked back. It was creme color but I got Mesa to send me a black grille. I used to call and talk with Randy and Mike Bendenlli all the time. The even sent me personal pictures. To this day they are still an outstanding company. My biggest regret is selling it to buy a Mark IA.
I play this amp along with a 1972 Marshall JMP 100... Well I'd never sell either, but the boogie is absolutely amazing, especially after you pull the speaker and put in a Celestion Creamback 90 alnico... with some late 60's mullard 12ax7's and some 70's Slyvania 6L6's.... it's the voice of god
Back in the day devices had voltage switches with steps like 110/120/220/230/240 V.
But that was too expensive for this amp I guess...
I feel like that thing NEEDS the mid-boost to be footswitchable. Especially with single coils, the super middy awesome lead sound didn't sound very good for rhythms. Killer sounding amp especially for clean and lead, but making at least the mid-boost and maybe gains footswitchable would make it a classic.
Boogies like that can be deadly loud.... and creamy...
What the hell is he playing from 9:38 to 10:00? If that is not a song it needs to become one right now. Captain, get on that asap!
Now I'm honestly on edge because I want to know if it's already a thing or not!
+Event Horizon Productions it sounds like noodling
Work To Do - Isley Brothers 1972
Love this!
ALSO LOVED THIS VIDEO!!!
Thank you for that history, because that’s his claim to fame; Hot Rodding Fender amplifiers. I read that in a Guitar Player Pub. back in 1981-82( somewhere in that era), he was strictly buy direct, with back orders at 6 months. Still is reigning champion( very expensive) of Tube Amplifiers. I hope I win The Powerball someday (😂😂😂😂😂)!! But they are worth it. Matter of fact, we had to go see the group Santana, just to see what it sound like live; unbelievable( no pedals, just straight up footswitching)!!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Didn't know Pete was a Mesa rep before Andertons!
PLaying starts at 12:50
Amazing amp!!! Warm and mean!!! Like 1 million bees in a barrel!!! Lovely!! Peace
9 minutes until the first note - too much talking already !!
Show don't tell
14:03 that is an animated GIF waiting to happen!
fantastic little amp.
Great amp steep price but if you're looking for boutique amps this a great choice.
these amps have a clean mid oriented overdrive tone that comes in early and stays creamy in spite of thickening tones I m unclear if extra assistance is in the amp itself or the pickups working the amp. I m looking for the tweed and blackface differences on demonstration and a different pick up selection to hear what attributes are rewarded where and why
Ah those were the days.. when you could pop to Andertons and buy a new Boogie
Super smooth tone, though I don't think I would buy it if I had the money, I like it a little more trebly and clear.
With the EV12L I could run Vol 1 @ 10, Vol 2 @ 9 and the master on 3 and it was great. I used use an original MXR Dyna Comp for solos and it was killer. None of these extra new wattage and gain switches either.
Actually if you check out the 'Rig Rundown' of Carlos by Premier Guitar you will find that the original (which Carlos still uses) had the 100/60 watt switch on it.
What a sound!!!!!! Sounds like Carlos and Eric 2 for 1 for £2800!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Funny seeing Pete back in these old ones
Is that an ice cream van in the background at 1m57s? :)
Mesa Boogie King Snake Demo - Santana-tastic Tones
Just to be accurate, Carlos rarely uses the neck pickup, that fat familiar tone comes from the bridge pickup on boogie. Check it out on Paul reed smith interviews.
Before Carlos played the PRS's, he'd use the neck pickup mostly on his Gibson's.....not sure on the Yamaha's of the late 70's
When they did it on 10w I was like meh. But on 60w that was nice
You can hear the noise gate release and then some tone but the amp must be noisy or the gate would not be choking the overall sound.
the cost is only a decision based on purchase and use or reward for selecting the amp new or used
I'd love to hear some distortion pedals through this amp and see how rock it gets
Please demo the line 6 POD HD PRO X. I really am debating buying it, but the only reviews I trust are yours!
Nice amp, but if you're able to play it real loud the beast will scream at you like no other amp. magic.
sounds great.
Wow Pete was still at Boogie!!!
400£ more expensive than the Marshall Bluesbreaker...I really don't get this 'hand wired' thing. Twice the price of the normal wired amps? You are not going to tell me the person doing the wiring costs / earns 1.000 £ per amp he wires.
A friend of mine bought one for $1,400 back in the early 1980's, but it was wood and cane covered.
Why everyone thinks Carlos is using neck pickup with tone rolled off? This is definitely not the case. Just watch his Masterclass video, he is literally playing ALL the time on the bridge pickup!!! Of course tone amd volume rolled off to taste.
That depends on the era and the guitar he's playing. Back in the 70's, he was mostly neck pickup
That's a groovy little amp but the price is very scary
2c+ reissue based on the mark v mode with the clean from the mark v also
in 2c+ chassis would be unreal
Sounds good! Enjoyed the playing as well! It does have that Santana sound ,,
I m currently concerned that the amps tones may like tweed amps be relegated to occasional use
Why is Mesa Boogie so over-priced in the UK? I'd like a rectifier but they're just not worth the money to me compared to what i could get for the same amount.
For example a Duel Rec head in the usa costs $1,949.00 and the same amp here costs £2,099.00. With the exchange rate, that's $3,521.42. Ridiculous
TAXES - blame the 'free' shit everyone gets from Parliament.
Same here in Germany. And its Not so bad with other brands. So don't tell me its all taxes.
amazing tone,, wonder what is comparable for less.. should do shoot out with prs's & marshall
so you can't buy this amp anymore?
Right
Play this head to head with a Rectoverb 25 combo. Both have the "Fillmore" speaker........................ I bought the Rectoverb.
A cockney, a swede, a German, or an American? I can't place him. Cool amp.
Can't believe Carlos would endorse something so bland sounding. Remember his Les Paul and early Mesa -- and Fender -- amp days when his tone cut through mix with percussion rather than merging into the midrange -- but it's his choice and money and I'm sure he's reaping benefits of multiple sales.
did he roll the volume all the way up to get that crisp sound 18:41 or did he have the 25db midboost in the guitar ??
Hey! Is that my guitar??? I bought a CC#12a from you looks like mine!!
1:58 ICE CREAM TIME!!!!!!!!!!
Haha these are seriously great amps
At least use a PRS Santana with this amp
+Ameen Singh Carlos's classic tracks were played with a Les Paul and an SG
and the yamaha sg2000
And the Gibson l6S.
I do enjoy the jtm as well
Aww yeah
Hello
Can It runs with only the two centrale 6l6 ?
#central
sounds so much better on the strat....but they don't have enuff treble... stuck on the humbucker muted sound
The imitation falls down a bit because Santana doesn't use vibrato that way.
Mesa Boogie makes the best amps in the world IMO. Tone is personal preference of course but for me there are no amps that can match Mesa Boogies!
I m looking to find a good dumble or wide angle tube amp not unlike this except a broader tone palate before pedals the plus is the 10 to 100 watt range
Pretty sure they lowered the UK voltage from 240V to 230V...
What about that KTR pedal?? Demo it please!! :P
Thanks for pronouncing "Mehico" instead of the usual "Mexico". In old Spanish "x" is actually pronounced almost like that "h" in "Mehico"
brilliant amp :) but that price is ridiculously high
I know you just can’t judge tone from a RUclips channel - but man, I just don’t get it, I just don’t hear what’s so great? I will take my Macon OD-820 plugged into my my little 10” Vox AC4 any day over this, not to mention total cost of $450 brand new
VoxPathfinder15R ending statements with question marks highlights how stupid you are.
trijigon the internet would be incomplete without some stranger calling you stupid
