His first smile is when she runs down the stairs to him, he actually hugged her back whereas he didn't really with his mother, he answers her question about the island instead of being offended, he made sure his mom knew Thea didn't spill the secret of Walter, he and Thea remembered and used the nicknames, and he is determined to protect her.
