    I had the same problem with the same safe. Locksmith wanted $170 to open the safe then I saw this video. Opened it in a similar manner in about 10 minutes! Thanks

    Yep, I was about to buy one of these, till I saw the reviews on Amazon, and came looking for informative videos.
    You talked me out of it. I'll go looking for a better model.
    (And I now kind of want that first tool you were using--firefighter's prybar? I'll have to get me one of those)
    Thanks, sir!

      Etaukan , if you want a half decent safe be prepared to spend at least $1000

    After watching my video I'm pretty sure that I could actually do this in under 2 minutes if I ever had to do it again. Pop out the two hing pins, create a small purchase with the officer's tool, then drive the wedge all the way in, the door would pop right out with the crowbar.

    Problem is it is really hard to be both protected from fire and protected from burglary at he same time without getting expensive. This is not suprising. This safe did exactly what it was designed to do. The cert is 5 minutes with basic tools.

    I bought one of their fireproof box models. I wasn't really expecting it to be secure from theft, but it fell of my desk and the lid broke off completely. It may be fireproof, but it's less sturdy than Tupperware.

    This is a digital safe. You can open this in less than 5 seconds with a rare earth magnate. Any safe can be cracked. In spite of some of the comments here, these are good products for the money. Even $1,000 safe can be cracked in less than two minutes (see videos here on youtube). The fact that this took 10 minutes is a testament to it's quality. I just bought a key/combination Sentry Safe. For $160, the quality is very good. You register it and if you forget your combo you can retrieve it from Sentry Safe as well have new keys issued. I would not get the digital variety personally because they can be opened too easily with NO evidence of tampering.

      GEH , for the price you really can’t complain, it gets the job done. Some people expect the quality to be similar to a bank vault lol.

    Same Safe. Similar problem after a few years. The safe would click with the correct code, but not unlock. I can't believe I trusted this piece of crap with my valuables. So easy to break into.

    Mine was unopened for 5 years, tried everything. No one could help, or even cared. Rented a saws-all from Home Depot. Cuts through like butter. Took pieces back to Costco, no receipt, too old for their computer but they gave me $200.

    I was always concerned about safes with the hinge on the outside, now I know.
    But its too late now, I already have a Sentry safe, but at least I have the dial combination lock

    punch key pad electronic combination safe: You need to figure out a way to operate the solenoid that attracts the magnetic cylinder armature into its sleeve and this disengages the mechanism to open the door. Would I be correct in thinking that when the correct combination is punched in a direct current then passes from the circuit board to the solenoid for a few seconds ? What if you passed a very strong magnet down the edge of the door below the solenoid, would it be strong enough to pull the cylinder inwards ?

      YES ! Use strong rare earth magnet, available from Amazon for about $15, for best results :)

    I have the same model which was installed in the closet of a house I bought. It was already open, so I had no trouble getting to the inside, but the bolts were engaged, so I could not close the door. I called Tech support and was told how to get the battery box out. It had some corrosion on the batteries, so they sent me a new battery box. I installed the new box with 4 new Energizer batteries. When I typed in the code, I got the same error response mentioned here, and no click/no open. I called them back again. This time, they are sending me a new solenoid and inner front door cover.They told me this unit was manufactured in 2015, so it is about 2 years old. I will post here again after the new parts come in as to my success. I certainly have NO confidence in the product itself.

      Rick Ferris Correction: the safe was manufactured in 2013, not 2015.

    I'm having the same problem. It's the only safe I've ever had that locks the owner out. I've been working on mine half the night. I'm only 85 lbs. I can stand on the crow bar, and nothing happens. lol

    I recently purchased a sentry safe to keep my medicine safe and locked up. Needless to say, the safe is NOT a safe at all. Someone broke into it and stold all my medicine. All they did is take a pair of small sizzors then inserted one end into the lock and wa la, helped themselves. Some of the meds cost over 1,000 $ and I take over , well lets just say ALOT. I cannot get them replaced because I just don't have the money to do that. It didn't say on the box that it was the eaziest NOT SAFE to brake open. When I found out , I got the sizzors and tried it myself and it took about 2 seconds to open it and about 2 seconds to relock it. What a waist of $$$$$ . From a pissed off, non medicated person that WILL go to WALMART and tell people NOT to buy any product from sentry safe.

    Next time, get a circular saw and cut the BODY of the safe in half... You can probably cut it apart in less than 3 minutes...

  • @mightbegenius
    @mightbegenius 9 лет назад +1

    um you bought the cheap small model and still had to stand on top of it with a huge crow bar. Why not just use a jack hammer for 30 seconds and say it was easy to break into...

    5" zip cutter and breathing mask, a lot more precision oriented less risk.

  • @WillPhoneman
    @WillPhoneman 11 лет назад

    That's what you get with a cheap "big box" store safe. These things are incredibly crappy. for anything other than fire protection, pay the extra cash for a better unit from a dealer with a good reputation.

  • @Dakota360ci
    @Dakota360ci 11 лет назад

    They're designed to protect against fire. Not burglary (regardless of what they say). Get a BF rated safe or TL to prevent this. Atleast bolt the damn thing down.
    These fail, guaranteed.

    how on earth are Sentry 'Safe' the largest safe manufacture in North America - oh my goodness!!! How are they 'safe' manufacturers at all?

    • @BH-pl7vg
      @BH-pl7vg 6 лет назад

      Hudda Rudda, it’s mainly a fire/water resistance safe. It’s obviously not going to be like a bank vault, what do you expect for a couple hundred dollars. You’re gonna have to pay at least a $1000 for a half decent “theft” resistance safe. Basically any safe can be broken into quite quickly.

    Same problem here! SENTRY safes are made to protect our valuables from ourselves and not from burglars... can not open with a dial no matter how hard i tried yet i was able to open it with a pry bar.... DO NOT BUY SENTRY!

    I forgot the combo to my safe like this, it literally took me 45 seconds to break it open.

    • @glendashadd7107

      How?

    • @earlfears
      @earlfears 9 лет назад

      I used a hammer and a small crow bar called a wonder bar. I placed the short end of the bar into the joint of the safe where the bolts close. The longer end of the bar across the body of the safe door. I hit the bar with the hammer a few times then pried open the safe door.
      If I knew how to attach it is send you a pic of the safe after it had been opened.

      If you watch the video again the pry bar he picks up at the 2:30 mark is the same one I used.

      I've done the magnet thing it didn't work on my safe. My model sentry safe has a plastic cowling large preventing the magnet from getting a clean attachment where the pin is., so no luck. damn 5 beep ERR message i can't get our passports. Locksmith say $200... forget that.. Mine is bolted to the floor, i think ill try to drill where the solenoid would be and try that? I've also done the hammering and that did do it either :(

    @whozthatdude2320 7 лет назад

    good for everything but burglary all you have to do is hide it and you'll be ok if you want a burglar proof safe you're gonna spend at least a grand and that just buys you time to let the police respond to the Alarm system which you better have as well. even bank vaults can easily be broken into with enough time and no police response

    I'll never buy one of these crap Sentry safes again. Thought I forgot my combination (possible but not likely) so I did the $20 combo recovery from Sentry. Turns out I had the combo correct but the safe wouldn't open. While on a tech support ph call the darn dial AND the entire round-to-square shaft came out in my hand. The safe is 8 years old, the warranty is 1 year. The rep told me I was out of luck and I'd need a locksmith to open it. $50 and and 20 min later I had the contents of my safe. Total cost? $150 for what is now a destroyed safe, a short drive to a locksmith, $50 and another $70 for a small fireproof box. NEVER AGAIN. Do yourself a favor and buy a better product.
