America needs to understand this: even if you’re no longer an empire you are still a country, just with less influence over the world’s economy and geopolitics. Maybe then the US government can start focusing on the livelihood of its citizens rather than funding wars around the world. Not being an empire is not a bad thing.

I've been living for 20 years in the Land of the Rising Sun. My monthly health care insurance since I'm retired is ¥3800 a month which includes a long-term care premium that I don't yet need. My bi-monthly visit to my doctor which includes lab tests is also ¥3800. Medication is ¥5000. Simply changing the ¥ to $ you get $82 a month, $984 annually. It's just as inexpensive in Europe. The American "health care" system is a major corporate grift which is about return on investment.

@@billysantos3824the State acquires power by using force and coercion to extract resources. It’s a monopoly ratchet that only grows, has no incentive to efficiently provide value, and has no competition.
A business acquires power by voluntary exchange of resources. It is subject to market forces, changing value signals, and competition. If a business does not provide value, it must change or cease to exist.
Capitalism (private ownership of the means of production in a free market economy) can exist just fine, even thrive, without a centralized State backing private property law. Contract enforcement is itself a service that can be provided on a voluntary basis.
A State requires significant propaganda to exist, and you were born into this environment. I’m sorry to say that you fell for it. Blaming corporations/businesses/capitalism for the failures of the State is a critical feature of this propaganda.
Ask yourself this: what in your life is voluntary, and what is not? How is the involuntary stuff enforced? Who benefits? If it’s a corporation that benefits, then how did they achieve this bypass of free exchange?

Well, after a lot of consideration, not only do I realize that this has been emphatically untrue in my own country, but it is also emphatically untrue today. With the genocide in Gaza, which I naively fooled myself into believing we would never support (on assumption of our "high ideals" of course), I am going to be cheering on the downfall of the western hegemonic empire. Yeah, life is going to undoubtedly get worse for me, but I am much more interested in the survival of the human race as a species.

Which is why we (USA) are constantly changing sides in global matters. We support Israel, until we don't. We don't want Hamas to win certainly, but we don't really want Israel to win either. We just want it to go on forever. Like it always has. With us at the top. It's why the USA fights tooth and nail every time there's a threat of national borders changing anywhere in the world. The USA wants everything set in stone. Again, with us on top.

There is now a roar of victory as the beast goes down. The problem is the movement lives in the furr of the beast and will get cold when it dies and starts decomposing.
Say what you want about the left, but there is a mode of projection and hatred of an enemy.
What worries me is a lot of the comfort has been taken for granted. When the beast goes down the revolutionairs that has not been trained to provide any value will have no office and no lunch.
There will be a fight for resources. There is a risk the Woke ideology will not accept the revolution being completed and will stay current by coming down on their citizens.
UK, Canada, New Zealand are great examples how easy it is to regulate what you can say and invent new crimes only to crack down on opposition.
Watch out for limitations on free speech. Watch out who have anger and blame in the ideology.
Marxism is not that great, nor is post modernism. It is a critique - ok - but there is always an enemy to destroy.
That idea will never work. Destruction is sometimes useful, but the ideologies that build and prospers are not based on blame and victimhood.

Therefore, I'm a veteran of first-hand experiences and can state categorically I have empathy with someone's stance on affairs: even though I may be diametrically opposed to such beliefs.
With that said, I will now declare that what Chris Hedges conveys to us all is the best set of arguments I have ever encountered. Quite incredibly, they either dovetail the perspectives I already embraced, or they are to be added to my positions.

@@SergioGonzalez-ew2po -- I’ve had a great and fulfilling life, much of which is derived from those “one-on-one” interludes I’ve had ranging from being on the train from LA, to Chicago and meeting an Armish chappie with his two young children (a boy 7, and a girl 4) and I gave the boy a (Australian) $5, and $10 and some coins. Or a couple operating an internet café in Sierra Vista (AZ), or the tour guide on a bus in Chile.
What I designate are, of course, seemingly simple occasions. However, they are all aspects of the marvelous tapestry that my life entails. But, again, aside from these substances I have been an eternal student of history, and geo-political affairs for over 50 years, and whilst I most certainly have granite-like political and ideological perspectives they are the culmination of decades of experiencing x, y and z, and formulating MY OWN outlooks.
Now, to answer your question as to whether I agree “100%” with Chris Hedges predictions:
Tragically, everything Hedges espouses is, indeed, “100%” correct: But, let me make it perfectly clear that, the conclusions he purports are parallel to what I predicted would come to pass at least 50 years ago. Similarly, this s the case with Britain - I assume you are aware of the upheaval that has transpired there from nearly a fortnight ago following the brutal murder of three innocent young girls at the hands of a person of African heritage.
Apropos to that, a contact of mine in Leeds, who was engaged with Britain’s domestic intelligence institution, MI5, informs me that:
“After investigations, the prime line of inquiry into this heinous matter by police, keeps getting back to the African fellow committing those crimes, because he was knocked back from romantic advances by a white female. But if that’s true, you can guarantee that will be suppressed by the powers that be.”
To sum it all up: What Hedges purports in this dialogue is, actually, 101% correct. So, if you live in a major urban sphere of the US, my sincerest advice is to pack up and move to more secure location.

The Bernie Sanders runs in 2016 and 2020 were very encouraging.
The reason being that there is massive support for getting away from the current political party policies.
The Democratic Party effectively squelched Bernie, in big part because Bernie, while a great person, didn't have the stones to fight the Party.
As things continue to get worse and worse and worse, the US will reach a breaking point (rock bottom) - and that point is pretty close. At that point, the populous will abandon this garbage system. We just have to hope there is a good person like Sanders (only with cajones) running and not a vile vicious clown like Trump.

If only we could bring back labor unions, as I fear for all the workers whose parents lost jobs in the 70s, due to them being shipped to what were called then, developing countries. Now the march towards ai could decimate more jobs. Witness how many businesses are filing for bankruptcy, how many stores are closing. Ai would be a death knell for the working poor and squeeze out the rest of the middle class. It would save money for the companies-- but push out the workers. Businesses need to say no.

What I gathered from this interview is that, it doesn’t matter who wins, we r still screwed and will continue to be till we cease to exist as a formidable nation. We r the modern Roman Empire, and as such will self implode as Rome did, and whom ever is left will get the spoils, it looks like there is no way out.

Humbly suggesting to not vote for any politician or party directly responsible for or merely vocally in support of these morally corrupt policies of inducing total dominance instead of diplomacy and the will to respectfully compromise. This year, the continuation of the brutal ideology which occupies both lands, minds and our tax payer money is on the ballot!
Join the rise of third party candidates to ensure that politicians of the current two party system will be forced to align with the wishes of their constituents, no matter if their constituents are left- or right-leaning,- an alternative on both sides are needed to ensure the alignment of our politicians with us all!
Personally, I've joined the green ticket to a more democratic future, represented this year by Jill Stein and Butch Ware from the Green Party...

I find the question mark at the end of this title amusing. I think everyone in the world who is not American (and not clueless) has watched the decline of American dominance for decades. Myself, I started taking note during the first Bush administration. America has lost its power as a sole super power - we are now in a global order with multiple great powers. American politics are in chaos and increasingly undemocratic. Finally, the American public has completely lost the moral high ground. Their support of Israel, even in the face of blatant genocide, its inexcusable and destroys the last shred of 'plausible deniability' as far as what the American government is doing. Americans choose to look away and pursue superficial interests while their leaders enable atrocities.
The American empire is definitely ended. It causes me despair, because the fate of my country is intricately entwined with America. And I am sorry to say that my own country's people are largely guilty of the same complacency, callousness, and ignorance. I watch world events unfolding, and feel a sort of surreal feeling, observing the development of a dystopian world, and the rapid vanishing of the world I grew up cherishing. I feel profoundly helpless. A catastrophe developing, and trying to have a rational discussion with anyone about it like screaming into a void.

I am Australian & I feel exactly the same. I think there are many of us. I see the challenge as somehow not giving up hope. Searching the horizon for a sign, a turning point.
Keeping faith that a better world is possible & sharing that with our children. Sharing what a better world might look like so that when the turning point arrives they’ll be ready. I get inspired by our ancestors & what they achieved, how many generations it sometimes took for the inevitable change.
And those who look away aren’t necessarily unaware that something is deeply wrong. They look away because they can’t see a way forward or have swopped cynicism for hope, seeking protection from disappointment & compassion fatigue.
A Czech philosopher coined the term ‘the solidarity of the shattered’.
      That’s our secret strength! ❤

The American empire has not ended; its facade as a democracy, is ending, for democracy and empire cannot cohabit in the same space. However, if you watch the US budget per year, the military budget is humungous. The US empire invests more in its military than all the other military nations combined. How is that empire dying? Its democratic arm is, yes, dying, but not the arms industry. It is getting richer and stronger every year. Don't be fooled!

Who else can conceive, develop, and deploy a biological weapon that murders millions and millions of citizens around the globe? Who else can destabilize and destroy the central currency of all transactions? Who else produces more metric tons of carbon emissions then sells the solar and wind alternatives to everyone else while still burning coal? C H I N A and only them can and have pulled it off.
